Dungeon Crawler Carl
Dungeon Crawler Carl: A LitRPG/Gamelit Adventure | Matt Dinniman
11 posts | 9 read | 2 reading | 3 to read
The apocalypse will be televised! A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth--from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds--collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot. A dungeon so enormous, it circles the entire globe. Only a few dare venture inside. But once you're in, you can't get out. And what's worse, each level has a time limit. You have but days to find a staircase to the next level down, or it's game over. In this game, it's not about your strength or your dexterity. It's about your followers, your views. Your clout. It's about building an audience and killing those goblins with style. You can't just survive here. You gotta survive big. You gotta fight with vigor, with excitement. You gotta make them stand up and cheer. And if you do have that "it" factor, you may just find yourself with a following. That's the only way to truly survive in this game--with the help of the loot boxes dropped upon you by the generous benefactors watching from across the galaxy. They call it Dungeon Crawler World. But for Carl, it's anything but a game.

This is so fun! I know, I know...you look at the title and this cover and immediately think "nope, not for me" but read a few reviews! Just two or three. Then try it. This is getting me out of a slump. Everything I'm reading seems so similar to each other and kind of depressing. This (so far, because I just started it) is so entertaining! I'm hooked and looking forward to the ride. It's giving Hunger Games/Ready Player One vibes- in a good way.

Allbymyshelf I agree! It‘s fun, fast paced, and doesn‘t take itself too seriously (in a good way) 🧌 2w

This book was a wild, violent, sometimes quite funny ride. Carl and Donut, a champion show cat, become unwilling participants in a global underground game battling orcs, rats and other monsters for the fate of the Earth. Combining video game world-building, The Hunger Games spectacle and buddy comedy chemistry, it makes for a fast and furious read. I only read this for cat book club but I'm tempted to read the sequel just to see what happens.

OMG as a D&D player I loved this. From Princess Donut to Mungo. This book is just pure entertainment.

Imagine, if you will, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy mashed with Death Race/The Hunger Games, Theseus vs the Minotaur, D&D, and a first-shooter video game and you get pretty close to the vibe of Dungeon Crawler Carl.
Throw in a pampered yet vicious show cat named Princess Doughnut, an AI that‘s a little too obsessed with feet, & former-Coast Guard Carl & you have a mashup that‘s thrilling and hilarious.
My first LitRPG and definitely not my last.

🎧 The Butcher‘s Masquerade - Book 5!

I haven‘t laughed this much in a long time. The books get better & better!

There are tons of well-designed & explored interesting aliens/monsters!

Another level completed.

A compelling new adventure. I‘m probably going to relisten to the 5 books when book 6 comes out. Yeahp, that much fun.

If you can handle my previous warnings then this might be the series for you. I love Carl & Donut!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️+ 👀

🎧 SWEARING & MDK

Like DND & a violent video game had a baby. A post apocalyptic survival quest involving a multi-level dungeon, leveling up, bosses, monsters, humans & alien reality TV.

Carl & his x-gf‘s cat Princess Donut are the MC‘s. An animal companion!! Fighting for their lives. The epilogue reveal was priceless.

I could imagine Wil Wheaton reading this!

Carl‘s wardrobe on this quest? A leather jacket, boxers & pink crocs …

The world has collapsed, and all who survived are thrown into another world-a competitive dungeon where people fight monsters and humans alike. The book follows Carl and his estranged girlfriend's cat, Princess Donut, through their adventures in the dungeon. While I liked the book, I think it would be frustrating or maybe impossible for someone who has never played any RPG games like World of Warcraft to understand or follow along with the story.

I'm really liking this book so far. I'm listening to the audiobook, and think this is the best way to experience the book. The voice actor is amazing and he really captures each character's personality. If you're a fan of rpg, then you'll love this book. It brings me back to the days of playing WoW.
