I‘m confused by the final product of this book. I was definitely interested as I was reading; how could I dislike the novelization of a movie I liked so much written by Tarantino himself? But despite what I liked about it, I can‘t understand why the entire final scene at Rick‘s house isn‘t even in the book. Much of the movie‘s ambiguity about Cliff‘s character is also lost by filling in his entire backstory.
Went out to grab coffee and made myself a breakfast bagel sandwich. Hoping to get some reading in today in between chores (so much laundry 😩).
I originally started reading this while on vacation over New Years but got distracted by other books when I got home. Going to dig back in and plan to finish this month!
Not a great reading month for me - I only finished 6 books, and I didn‘t do very well on my bingo card. Both #BookSpin and #DoubleSpin are still on my TBR. I will be keeping all of the #BOTM books from this month for April‘s board too.
March #BookSpinBingo! Most of my options are #BOTM backlist sitting on my physical TBR. I have so many to catch up on and I need to make a concerted effort to clear my shelves. Leaving my free spaces open for library borrows.
My #BookSpin is Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which I started over New Years but got distracted from the last couple months. My #DoubleSpin is In the Weeds, which (as an Anthony Bourdain super fan) I am super excited for.
In the airport getting ready to head back home after a week in Phoenix. This is the only reading pic I took while we were in vacation. Unfortunately there were only a couple of pool-worthy days as it was unseasonably cool and rainy. Didn‘t get too much reading done this week, but I did finish about half of this on the sunny days!
Will post my #WinterGames final points tomorrow when I have a chance to do my final tally of bingos, etc.
11-28-21: My 120th finished book of 2021! LA in 1969. Rick Dalton is an actor in westerns and Cliff Booth is his friend and stunt double. Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski live next door to Rick. Charles Manson is trying to find someone to give him a record deal. This book follows the movie but only to a certain extent. And while I liked this, I definitely liked the movie better. It just gives you more story for all. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 👍🏼📖#️⃣1️⃣2️⃣0️⃣
When I heard about this book, I knew, I had to read it. Even though I asked myself, if it is really necessary to make a book out of the movie. Maybe it's not necessary, but it sure is a book worth reading! At least if you like Quentin Tarantino.
Because - surprise! - this man can write as well! And the book does, what books can, and movies don't. Getting deep into the characters. ⬇
Just finished Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino‘s debut novel.
Good times, adventures, mayhem, and many a hangover await in LA, 1969.
This book greatly expands on the film with much detail & depth, really zooming in on the characters and exploring Cinema & TV history. It‘s fascinating, compelling, & just plain fun—with a few unexpected surprises, some of them very rewarding. Excited to rewatch the movie again now👍

I might be biased because I‘m a huge fan of Sharon Tate, and I absolutely love the movie Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. I jumped to buy this when I saw QT made a novelization based on the movie. I‘d recommend watching the movie first because there are spoilers in the book and it‘s not told in a linear timeline. But I loved this! There are tons of new and expanded scenes in the book and it really does transport you back to the late 60s. We learn ⬇️
You guys. I loved this book!
Some of it was straight from the script, but there were lots of tidbits that weren't in the movie:
We find out whether or not Cliff killed his wife ✔
We learn about how Cliff acquired his dog, Brandy ✔
We learn Pussycat's back story ✔
We get to know Trudi, Rick's young co-star (she grows up and gets nominated for her role in a Tarantino movie 😄) ✔
As a fan of OUATIH, I was just thrilled with this book.
The language, well, it is Quentin Tarantino 😄
I am enjoying every second of this book!
'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' is one of my favorite Tarantino movies. The book is giving the readers lots of extra information and I am absolutely gobbling it up.

Loved Tarantino‘s most recent film and have been excited for the release of his novelization of the movie. I love his commitment to the aesthetic of the paperback format! This edition of Leaves of Grass is complemented by beautiful Rockwell Kent illustrations.
It‘s release day for Quentin Tarantino‘s first novel, based on his film, and I am just super interested in what this is even going to be like.
Especially since Tarantino‘s is talking up the possibility of becoming a full-time author after he makes his 10th film and then retires from directing.
Dig that vintage cover!
@vivastory this seems like it might need to be on your radar if it‘s not already.
