A book about a plane hijacking is perhaps not the best pick to read while on a plane, but …🤷🏻♀️. A decent thriller that moves quickly. I‘ll probably forget it by tomorrow. But it was short enough that I was able to start and finish it in the time it took to fly between DC and Seattle.
I would never have picked this one up if the Lazy Genius hadn‘t recommended it. A pilot‘s family is kidnapped and he must decide if he‘s willing to crash his plane to save them. Perfect to break a reading slump if you need an action-packed story. I loved the character of Jo the fight attendant. The book is worth reading for her alone! The author was also a flight attendant and that knowledge and experience are obvious.
🌟🌟only because I finished it. The most un-thrilling thriller I‘ve ever read. 🙄
Up next…it‘s on my #unreadbookshelf and #14books14weeks2023 lists!

Good action story, but heavier on action than character development. Couple of good twists. I listened to the audio and it held my attention.
My choice for book club and I‘m so glad I picked it. Suspenseful, well written, great characters and a great story. Thoroughly enjoyed it
An ok audiobook and story.

Fast-paced and action packed, it felt like a screenplay, which was why this wasn‘t for me. Don‘t get me wrong. If you love an action-thriller, this is a good one, but it felt like the kind of movie I avoid, and explains my lack of enthusiasm. The characters felt thinly drawn, the flashbacks used to give context seemed lazy, and the descriptive choices, predictable and repetitive. But again, it‘s a me-not-you situation. It‘s a page-turner for sure.
The last few pages almost ruined it for me with that sugary sweet, unrealistic, "I'm keeping my promise of trying to understand the terrorists" bullshit. It's as if it was written by the writers of that old TV show 7th Heaven.?
A pilot is forced to choose between either crashing his plane, or having his family killed by terrorists.
Bill is a pilot just a short way into a flight when he receives a message—a man has kidnapped his family and will kill them if he doesn‘t crash the plane. And there‘s an accomplice on board *somewhere* to make sure he follows through. This is a propulsive, fun, cinematic read that‘s a tad predictable and derivative of some movies I‘ve seen, but I had a good time with it.
TJ Newman knows of what she speaks. She is a former air hostess, and you can tell that she's lived the life. This is a raw, real, engrossing thriller that had me hooked for a few nights. You'll inhale it.
Holy cow, this was an intense read. A plane with 149 passengers is headed from LAX to NY when the pilot is given a message from someone who has taken his family hostage. He needs to crash the plane or his family will be killed. Written by a flight attendant on her breaks during long flights, her insider knowledge of the airline industry was evident. I definitely don‘t recommend reading this while flying anywhere!
I tried to read this book awhile okay just couldn‘t get in to it. But now I got the audiobook to listen to on the way to work. Audio definitely made it better. I enjoyed it flowed very well and had me guessing who and what would happen.
Reads a bit like a screen play, and it‘s great fun and well paced throughout. But, the climax and aftermath felt a bit clunky. Enjoyed the #audiobook which is read by Steven Weber.
It was supposed to be a routine flight, but when the pilot finds out his wife and children have been kidnapped and will die unless he crashes the plane, things get interesting.
I've seen mixed reviews about this book, but I thought it was an action-packed thrill ride full of tension and adventure! The characters were a little one-dimensional and certain parts of the premise were a little farfetched, but it held my attention and I enjoyed it.
Definitely a popcorn thriller, and sometimes that‘s what you need! I found the writing a bit florid at first, but once the danger started and the pace picked up, it became more streamlined in the telling. The author worked as a flight attendant, which is actually what made me pick it up!
I really enjoyed this one! It was fast paced, action filled and had enough twists to keep me on my toes. Rather mind blowing that this is a DEBUT novel! Bravo!
Thanks again to @quietjenn for including this in my Halloween swap box 🧡
Finished this audio last week. This was a quick and very edge-of-your-seat thriller of a pilot given a choice of either saving his family who was taken hostage or crash the plane he is flying. This whole story takes place over one day with a few flash backs within. A terrifying tale but it draws you in and doesn't let go.
I had a good first line, so I had to participate in #firstlinefridays !

Wow!! Good book, but it would make an even better movie! Very high suspense. I listened to the audiobook. The narrator did a great job. It usually takes me longer to finish audiobooks, but I finished this one in record time. The scary part is that I can see this actually happening. I might think twice before getting on an airplane. A big thank you to the Facebook Monthly Book club for making this the November monthly read!

While this does make for a quick, entertaining read, I just didn't love it as much as others seemed to. I found the chargers to be forgettable. It would make a great movie though.
Post 1 of 2: Thank you so much to @quietjenn for being my #HHS swap partner! You did AMAZING! These books are perfect for the spooky season and check out those awesome blood splatter bookmarks!! I love them!

Oh my gosh, I loved this book. I can totally see it being made into a movie.
Good for what it was, if a bit over-the-top. This has to be made into a movie, I‘m sure?! A plane is hijacked in a different way, and a pilot is presented with an unbelievably difficult predicament. A fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants thriller that was a page turning, fast read. I know this type of thing isn‘t for me usually, but FOMO and I read it anyway lol. Silly in some ways, but spoilers so I won‘t say more.
Is this what retirement has in store? 2 books in a day, bring it on.
Action thriller that literally plays out like that in your head. Not literary genius but a good couple of hours read. Very cheesy at the end, but perfect film ending.
I admit it, I‘m a sucker for the old school plane disaster movies - I even made it to the end of Snakes on a Plane! This book really has those disaster vibes and gets a pick from me. However, in a post 9/11 world this could be triggering for many. …I have family that has immigrated from the Middle East so I‘m hyper-sensitive to fear-mongering scenarios resulting in pointy tips of stars falling when I rate this one.
Yeah I‘m not getting the rave reviews here. I‘m a former flight attendant and this…yeah I know it‘s fiction. Once again I fell for the prepublication hype and once again learned my lesson. Just don‘t. The characters are forgettable…but the plot had promise. Sadly the execution of said plot clumsy. Not everyone can write suspense. Sigh.
Reading this was like watching a blockbuster summer movie, full of adrenaline and anxiety and great characters who pulled at your heart and also made you laugh even through the chaos (my favorite character, a Flight Attendant nicknamed Big Daddy, was the comic relief for much of it). It was a quick and entertaining read that was hard to look away from. I‘ll definitely read more from this author! 🌟🌟🌟🌟
For the first time in I don‘t know how long I‘ve got 3 books going at the same time. And even more impressive for me: I‘m on schedule to finish all 3 in just ONE WEEK! I honestly don‘t remember the last time I read even one book in a week (I‘m a slow reader), let alone 3 in one week! I don‘t know what‘s gotten into to me but I like it 😁!
An airline pilot has to choose between the lives of his family or everyone on board his plane. It‘s full of tense moments and flashbacks that explain how the main characters came to this point. #audiobook #Libby
Fantastic debut & seriously fast-paced thriller that had me on the edge of my seat. The writing & set up are accessible, atmospheric, & incredibly realistic (not terribly surprising since Newman is a flight attendant). The characters are incredibly vivid & well-developed. There are some great twists & turns & some incredibly intense moments that unfold with masterful precision. I had a great time with this read & really enjoyed it.
That moment when library holds come through at times that aren't ideal. I don't know that it was my brightest idea to stick with a highjacking plot this close to the anniversary of 9/11. And no, I did not actually have the guts to read it during my flight (into JFK no less) 😳 ✈️
But I digress - Some of the twists were predictable but overall a very tense, action-packed premise with some nail biter moments and a slightly heavy handed finale 3.5⭐️
