The Amazon Charts bestselling author of Last Day delivers a haunting thriller about how far one wife is willing to go to expose the truth--and the lengths someone will go to stop her. After artist Claire Beaudry Chase is attacked and left for dead in her home on the Connecticut coast, she doesn't know who she can trust. But her well-connected husband, Griffin--who is running for governor--is her prime suspect. Just before the attack, Claire was preparing for an exhibit of her shadow boxes, one of which clearly accuses Griffin of a violent crime committed twenty-five years ago. If the public were to find out who her husband is, his political career would be over. Claire's certain her husband and his powerful supporters would kill her to stop the truth from getting out. When one of Claire's acquaintances is murdered, the authorities suspect the homicide is linked to the attack on Claire. As the dual investigations unfold, Claire must decide how much she's willing to lose to take down her husband and the corrupt group of elites who will do anything to protect Griffin's interests and their own.

I really enjoyed this book, once I got the characters and timelines straight. You get POVs from 6 people total, 3 of them are most of the book and the other three are extra sprinkled in. The timeline also jumps around and I almost needed a notebook to keep track. Once I figured I out, I was invested and wanted to find out what happened and whodunit…it‘s as obvious as you think, but it‘s pretty twisty. Book #83 in 2023

There were no real surprises here. Not a bad read, just not anything special.

I give this book 4 stars. Even though I figured out who the antagonist was early on, the story plot made me want to keep reading to see what happened at the end. there were surprising twists to keep the plot interesting

🎧📚 Another Amazon 1st Read freebie & another book about a man with skeletons in his past that can tank his future political career & the lengths people will go to cover them up.

A bit drawn out & repetitive but it‘s due to the author‘s meticulously detailed descriptive writing. She paints quite a tableau with well developed characters with depth.

Predictable yet enjoyable. Family drama, betrayal, mystery. TW for rape & child abuse. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

AlisBookNookCorner This was an Amazon pick of mine as well! Looking forward to reading it now, after your review! 4y

Finished this last week for a book tour & never posted. Overall, a quick & suspenseful read in the same Connecticut setting as The First Day. Giving it a pick despite some issues with all the POVs & back & forth in time & a conspiracy plot that seemed a bit hard to believe at times because I like the characters especially the Reid brothers. And yes, I paired it with a (mostly) classic tuna sandwich for my book-inspired dish because sometimes⬇️

DebinHawaii ...it‘s about the meal & the friend you share it with than it is about finding the perfect recipe. 😉This matched the book the most. My review & what‘s in my tuna sandwich: 😋http://kahakaikitchen.blogspot.com/2021/02/the-book-tour-stops-here-review-of.html?m=1 4y
rubyslippersreads I have to read this soon for my IRL book club, so I‘m glad it was a pick for you. (edited) 4y

My finished Simple Chili from Scratch, based on a Mark Bittman reciting & subbing in plant-based ground “meat.” It‘s really good & on the blog today for #souoersundays. P.S. eat it with Fritos Scoops.😋 Link to recipe below.

Paired with a book I have a tour for later this week. I‘ve just barely started it. So many books, so little time!

This is an unusual murder mystery in that we know who the bad guy is pretty much from the beginning. What we aren't sure about is whether the attack on the MC is related to the death of another woman on the same day. It soon becomes clear that there is a conspiracy at work & I was surprised to discover just how many people were involved in the crimes & cover ups. I very much liked the two investigators, brothers Conor and Tom, but ⬇️

bookandbedandtea I never quite connected with the MC. The willingness of so many people to protect and enable the villain was also a little hard for me to accept. 4y

I‘m so conflicted about this book. It was good enough I wanted to see how it ended but struggled to keep that in mind. I don‘t know if it was the bouncing around from different character POV‘s or the time hopping or the fact you knew from page one who the bad guy was. There was just something that wasn‘t brilliant about this book.

I enjoyed this book. It was a thriller and definitely had some good twists. The characters were like able and the villain was someone you just wanted to hate. I read it because one of my prompts this month was author‘s name starts with L. I knew nothing when I started it but it gripped me pretty quickly.

Claimed my two free January Kindle books. Their summaries are interesting. Both are thrillers. Both center around women & the truth. One woman is trying to uncover the truth and the other is thinking about covering it up & the consequences.
