Daisy Jones & The Six
Daisy Jones & The Six | Jenkins Reid Taylor Jenkins Reid
--Associated Press

So this announcement was delivered to my email this morning - a new book with a June 2025 release date. I can‘t wait for one of my auto-read, pre-purchase authors to deliver a new story. I chose the tagged since this was when I discovered her and read her back catalog while waiting on new releases.

I enjoyed this one but it didn‘t grab me in the feels quite as much as Evelyn Hugo or Malibu Rising. The interview format worked really well since there were so many characters. I think the weakness came from not being able to hear and feel the music; so much of the plot revolved around the songwriting, and the songs were integral to the emotional study of Daisy in particular, but Billy as well. I just felt a step removed from the emotion.

CSeydel #bookspin (January (!!!)) 4mo
TieDyeDude I wasn't a fan. I liked the exploration of the characters' psychology, but I thought the characters themselves and the story beats were kind of cliché, and, yes, the lack of music was a weakness. I want to read her other books, but this didn't do much for me. 4mo
CSeydel @TieDyeDude Yeah, I think I agree. Things just seem to happen because they‘re supposed to be a certain way in a rock band story. I didn‘t consciously recognize it while I was reading, but after I finished I definitely had a sense that it was unsatisfactory in some indefinable way. Frankly, I found Graham and Karen‘s arc much more touching than Billy/Camila/Daisy‘s. And Eddie and Warren provided just the right amount of humor. (edited) 4mo

I gave this novel a DNF back in 2019 but between being made into a miniseries and reading that it was loosely based on Fleetwood Mac, I decided to try again. I can see why people like it but I find the interview format tedious.

ShyBookOwl I prefer fiction to memoir, but every time I come across this book, I think, "But why not just read a real band's memoir??" It just seems like such a specific type of book, that if that was what I was in the mood for, I'd go nonfiction ??‍♀️ 7mo
rachelk @ShyBookOwl I agree. For me great fiction follows the rule ‘show don‘t tell‘ but that isn‘t really possible with this format. I do enjoy memoirs but mostly because I already have an interest in the real lives of the subjects. (edited) 7mo

My #TBRtarot pick for April was great! I would have liked it more if it were true and not fiction. But still a good story about sex, drugs & rock n‘ roll! I admired Daisy for her freedom and was rooting for Billy and his restraint. Now I‘ll absolutely have to check out the show and see if they got the casting right. 🤣 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2

CBee Yay! Even though it wasn‘t true per se, it felt that way to me (honestly, I was surprised that it‘s technically fiction). I loved the series and the casting, especially Riley Keough as Daisy 🌼 7mo

Excellently written book and excellent narrators. I was a little thrown off when I read the author was inspired by Fleetwood Mac‘s turbulent band history, because I kept comparing them with the book. I loved the documentary style of storytelling, really unique for a fictional story. It was funny hearing each of the band member‘s perspectives about the same thing, like how they came to be called The Six or how much control Billy had in the group.

I appreciate Taylor‘s ability to take big risks with her plot lines and the way she chooses to tell her stories. I also appreciate her ability to write flawed, multidimensional characters. This book had some AMAZING females- Karen, Camila, DAISY. ❤️ I enjoyed the tv adaption also, though I didn‘t approve of some of the changes they decided to make. It was still a beautiful story and I cried on the last episode. 4/5

This was okay? The audiobook improved it due to the great cast performances, but I found the plot rather predictable. Maybe it suffered from all the hype, idk, but I‘m kinda regretting picking up another book by TJR before I finished this one, because I probably wouldn‘t have done so.

#TLT Three-List-Thursday @dabbe

I was in high school in the late 70s.
1. You ALWAYS wore Levi's, especially corduroy jeans.
2. Oxford button down shirts with a sweater (jumper for you UK folks) that you draped over your back and tied around your neck.
3. Polyester
4. Izod polo shirts.
5. Padded shoulders. The bigger, the better!
6. Big hair was popular especially when disco came along.
7. Before big hair, it was all about the Farrah...

TheSpineView ...Fawcett hair either the wings on the side. For the guys it was the Andy Gibb look or nothing. 8. In the summer, girls wore daisy dukes. If your parents would let you. 9. Leisure Suits. More of an adult trend but teenage guys would wear them to church. 10. Mood rings. I had several. 10mo
Susanita The Farrah hair! And the boys had the poster. 😲 10mo
dabbe Oh, man, the nostalgia! Levi 501s. Had to have the little alligator on those polo shirts; knock-offs were not acceptable! My mood ring never changed color; it always stayed a dark blackish color. Maybe that was my surly mood as a teenager? 😂 10mo

I tried to like this book, but it was just ok for me. The one thing I did love was the format the book was written in. The way it was written, interview style, and to have it flow so well was great. It was the content that was just ok for me. Just a lot of talk about sex, drugs and rock & roll and that just doesn't really interest me. I just couldn't feel bad for the characters, as most of them felt like awful, selfish people with lots of money.

I chose to go with the audiobook and wow – The casting was amazing!!! Jennifer Beals has such a voice that reflects a little bit of rasp and grit while Pablo Schreiber's voice lents it's warmth to Billy's character that makes him shine and Benjamin Bratt shines as Graham while omg Judy Greer's voice feels so spot on for Karen Karen and her quips and confidence.

I‘m a little embarrassed that I didn‘t realize this was a fictional band until the end. I‘m not the most musical and assumed they just weren‘t around long enough to still be played/common enough today and I figured several of them had died from overdoses. It was interesting, but also sad. I did like how it was written though, like interviews remembering the past.

This is sex, drugs, and rock‘n‘roll. I listened to the audio and it was so well done. The story was good (I‘d give the story itself 3.5 stars), but (as I always do when it‘s this good), I am adding an extra ¼ star for the audio. But also an additional ¼ star for the format of the book. Cont in comments...

LibraryCin It‘s told in interviews with many of the characters: the people mentioned above, but also Billy‘s wife, Daisy‘s best friend/disco star, the band‘s producer, and many more. I think this format led really well to the audio, with each character having a different narrator for the audio. So well done! 1y

WOW! A fictional story purportedly based loosely on Fleetwood Mac. This may be a fictional story but the book reads as though these events really happened. It was amazing listening to this documentary style book, all the different characters, all the different voices, simply amazing! I can't tell you how many times I Googled a song to listen to! Written as a current day interview reflecting on the renowned career of a band launched into international prominence in the 70‘s. The attention to details of each differing recollection of events made the book more lifelike. It was a super easy read. Although, towards the end it just seemed to skip the subtitles of how the main characters relationship changed so rapidly. But overall would recommend for an easy quick read.

I was skeptical about reading this book because it's not my usual thing and it's written in the form of an interview. But I LOVED IT! I love classic rock and I love reading about how bands come together and the struggles that come with being famous. Drugs were so casual a few decades ago and it blows my mind how much people used and how it was socially acceptable.
A really great book about fame, substance abuse, love, and struggle.

I listened to the audio which was great with the full cast experience. I haven‘t read any other Taylor Jenkins Reid. I feel like the more popular an author is, the more reluctant I am to go there?! 😂 unless I‘ve been a fan since book 1 (like SJM). This book reminded me of the movie Almost Famous, which I love. Definitely well done. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

LoveToReadLiveToRead I know what you mean about popular authors. I did enjoy Evelyn Hugo and just finished Carrie Soto which worked so well for me on audio. That was mostly the narrator from Carrie‘s POV but had additional cast for other bits, media reports etc, which worked was good. 1y
