This was yesterday morning at my mom's. I was concerned we weren't going to be able to make our flight home today but thankfully the water receded quickly and the road was clear today. Glad my e-reader is well stocked though. Makes it easier to be prepared for the unexpected when traveling.

this book is about going through a very difficult thing in life and learning to love yourself again and being nice to your inner child and just letting go of the past. I really enjoyed the book I'm going through similar things myself and I think the book helped me heal through what I'm going through.

Third Rupi Kaur collection & least favorite. Some of the poems reference the capitalist/commodifying pressures she was under to force out more work, fast…& if fully autobiographical, that explains a lot about the uneven quality.

However, I still very much admire the way she writes — revealing her hurts, her rages, her inconsistencies, with an honesty that seems as much for her catharsis as to offer the communal comfort: “You are not alone.”

Rupi Kaur is able to pack so much punch into just a few words. I could physically feel so many of these poems. I am grateful to her for being willing to share her journey through trauma towards hope, healing, and self compassion. (Please know that strong trigger warnings apply here)

It‘s not often that I reach for a book of poetry and yet I‘ve read all Rupi Kaur‘s collections. Some of these poems were hard to read, because of the subject matter while others are uplifting. The goodreads reviews that speak dismissively of “tumblr poetry” gave me a good laugh (and say more about the reviewer than the poetry itself, imo)

Nute That is an incredible statement. I feel that I can relate at times to that admission. 3y

Some of these poems were difficult to read, covering child abuse, sexual abuse and domestic violence amongst other subjects.

However, there were so many resonant poems on anxiety and believing in yourself - I took screenshots of every one, I think!

Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is a brilliant book, I love all of her works. Rupi is such a raw writer and gets all the feelings just right.

So me and this little creature have decided to have a day of reading and relaxing, no one is complaining. Also my library have started the reserve books back up again (if you order a book they get it from a different library in Cumbria) its so great. I am very happy because 2 of my reads came in and I have 2 more on reserve ☺

3/5 ⭐

First of all, know that some poems might trigger something in you. Some are about abuse.

Overall, the poems were short but the words were powerful. One little sentence will make you stop and think for a moment.

Thought, I don't recommend it to everyone. That's why I give it a so-so. It wasn't as deep as the first two books I read by this author.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ I wanted to love it but for me it fell short of the last two books. I‘m glad I opted to borrow this time instead of buy. Not horrible but I felt a lack of passion. She mentions in one of the poems about adequacy and doing things just for money and it‘s ironic. 3 stars for this one, more like 2.5

4🌟I found this to be a thought-provoking collection, which I connected with more than Kaur's last book. I enjoy her style of poetry and find her writing beautiful, relevant and resonating. Though most of these pieces are shorter, containing only a few sentences at times their impact is very deep. Divided into four sections, mind, heart, rest, awake.Themes ranging from sexuality, violence, trauma, and self love. #poetry #bookreview

Rupi Kaur sticks with her style of poetry in her latest book, I would of liked to see more experimentation, but she continues grow her style in this book which is great to see!

Got a late start for the #24in48 readathon today, but my goals are rather modest, so I think it‘ll work out. I‘m aiming to read at least 6 hours total, which would be a win for me considering all the other stuff I have to get done this weekend! Still, I couldn‘t miss this ‘thon! This is my first finished book and I quite enjoyed it. 3/5⭐️

PurpleyPumpkin @UwannaPublishme I completely understand! I wasn‘t able to spend as much time reading this weekend as I wanted to, but I did get in more reading time than usual. I‘m sure we‘ll do a ‘thon together again in future when life isn‘t quite so crazy!👍🏽 4y

Wow so... a definite mixed bag.

The book is broken into four sections. I deeply hated the first section. There are GRAPHIC depictions of CSA that were upsetting to read. I felt no catharsis, only pain. The second section just didn't really do much for me. I honestly almost gave up half way through because it was either upsetting or just blah. I loved the third and fourth parts though, which I felt was some of her best work. Mixed bag for sure.

TrishB Great review 👍🏻 4y
CollapsingLibrary I felt like this collection was just too forced. Like she needed to give publishers something so all the things she didn‘t include in the first 2 collections got put together. Probably not the case but how it felt as I was reading. I highly agree with your comments on the first section 4y
elizabethlk @PurrfectFeministPerspective I could definitely agree with that given how much of the first section especially was uninspired or just plain upsetting. That second half had real gems in it imo though 4y
