My first three picks for #roll100 😁 I didn‘t really know what to pick up come January, and now I‘ve got 3 perfect options to get started with. A steampunk fantasy, a revenge sci-fi and a historical supernatural mystery. Looks like I‘ve got my work cut out for me. @PuddleJumper

I love the concepts and most of the characters, and it's very imaginative. My problem is the main character who begins at 14 and acts like it. But then he's supposed to be 'augmented' which will age him to 20 and update his brain and emotions as well. Except, even after the augmentation, instead of a competent adult, we're still stuck with a 14 year old in a grown body, who is just utterly stupid all round.

So, anyway, DNF for me at about 50%.

My #5thBookOf2021 for #May is my top book of 2021 so far. If you like SciFi, even if you don‘t, pick this book up! Written by an author on the spectrum, her alien species are unique, using scent or colour to communicate in some cases with others that are only able to exist in certain space. I can‘t wait for the 2nd book in 2022🪐🚀 #12BooksOf2021

Struggling to engage with this so far, putting it down for another time. Mass murder to generate revenge motivations are a really tough sell for me; that‘s why I‘ve put off trying this for so long in the first place. Will give it one more go at some point.

This sci-fi got off to an intriguing start with all my favourite tropes - found family, vengeance, orphan with a mysterious provenance - but a major plot device about a quarter of the way in left me feeling cheated. Add in a lack of exposition, jarring timing issues and an MC increasingly amazing at everything and I stalled at 67%. #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks

DNF @ 15%, surprised that I made it that far. I reread whole passages over & over again trying to retain the info to no avail. The prose- dense & bland. It went out of its way to check hot topic boxes. Autistic character? Check! Transgender mercenaries that “are female, for now“ (trite?)? Check! Could I have misunderstood? Maybe, things were hard to keep straight. Did I care one whit about the characters? NO!! and that's unforgivable.

Bk13 of May & Bk2 of #20in4 #readathon is done! What a phenomenal universe this is set in & I‘m stoked that the author is neurodiverse, I have a niece that‘s on the spectrum & her imagination is wild too. This has got to be one of the most imaginative ‘verses I‘ve ever read with wildly different cast of intelligent species using all senses to communicate including emotion. Fantastic! This is why I love SciFi so much. #ReadingWomensChallenge 👇

Next up is one from Friday‘s #bookmail Another scifi(I‘ve been on a HUGE SciFi kick lately)this has gotten some great reviews. Caidens planet has been destroyed, his people gone so he sets out for revenge on the slavers responsible. Joining the alien crew of living ship, he finds out the universe is a lot bigger than he expected but his vow of revenge is unquenched. Sounds intriguing🤔

I finished my last stack of library books and with the phase two opening meaning we can browse for up to an hour. I picked up another stack today when I returned the first. I am so thankful to have this privilege again.

This just showed up on my doorstop. Looks like it will be my last read of 2020. ☺️
