The Girl in the Mirror
The Girl in the Mirror | Rose Carlyle
Written with the chilling, twisty suspense of The Wife Between Us and Something in the Water, a seductive debut thriller about greed, lust, secrets, and deadly lies involving identical twin sisters. Twin sisters Iris and Summer are startlingly alike, but beyond what the eye can see lies a darkness that sets them apart. Cynical and insecure, Iris has long been envious of Summer's seemingly never-ending good fortune, including her perfect husband Adam. Called to Thailand to help her sister sail the family yacht to the Seychelles, Iris nurtures her own secret hopes for what might happen on the journey. But when she unexpectedly finds herself alone in the middle of the Indian Ocean, everything changes. When she makes it to land, Iris allows herself to be swept up by Adam, who assumes that she is Summer. Iris recklessly goes along with his mistake. Not only does she finally have the golden life she's always envied, with her sister gone, she's one step closer to the hundred-million-dollar inheritance left by her manipulative father. All Iris has to do is be the first of his seven children to produce an heir. Iris's "new" life lurches between glamorous dream and paranoid nightmare. On the edge of being exposed, how far will she go to ensure no one discovers the truth? And just what did happen to Summer on the yacht? Only Iris knows . . .

4¼⭐
This is one of those books where the Reader Q&A on here is very helpful…at least for me, it was. I was so confused by the twists and the flips this story takes towards the end that I was left feeling like…what the what? My head was a-spinning. All that craziness did have some believability issues for me, though. They even bordered on the preposterous but overall I can‘t help but recommend this since it was highly entertaining.

There were so many things that made this story unbelievable. Just could not believe any of this was plausible. The twist at the end was great-but I had already given up by then.

Omg wow, this was engaging from the first page!
Summer and Iris are twins, both have always been diametrically different to the other.
To the outside world they look close abd as if they get on well but the problem is Iris, she has ALWAYS wanted whatever Summer has.
One day she gets a phone call from Summer begging Iris to go to Thailand to sail the family yacht but then Summer goes missing after a supposed accident...

Iris and Summer are twins but their personalities are mirror images.
Summer is considered the good, sweet, accomplished twin who has a stepson, amazing husband and great lifestyle and basically all a woman could ever want.
Iris is the one on the outside always looking on.
So when she is invited to crew the family yacht down to Thailand she jumps at it.
Through a quirk of fate it ends up just being Summer and Iris in charge of the Bathsheba...

The girl in the mirror is about identical twins who are considered “mirror twins”. I find this interesting because my father was considered a mirror twin and I‘ve never heard of another set of twins like him. He was born in 1929 and said he had tests done at a Michigan university when he was young. Time for more research since I‘m curious now.

Lauram I‘m a mirror twin! 4y

I hated this book. It started off way too slow, the author didn‘t give us enough character development in either the good twin or bad twin partly due to having a self loathing narrator, and the vulgarness of the “sex/rape” scenes made me put down the book a lot. All for the climactic end to be a plot device that has been seen before. What comes to my mind is the Are You Afraid of the Dark episode w/ the Mowry twins. Just watch that, it‘s better.

This was twisted in every way. A great story, kept me turning the page. Psychologically messed up characters. Honestly still confused on the ending though and how it worked out.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ So about 3/4 of the way through I thought for sure I was going to give this four stars. But then the ending 😔 If one part of the ending was taken out, I would have said it was great. But that one thing made the ending crumble for me. It made no sense. Let me know in the comments if you know what I mean under a spoiler alert. This was my #doublespin No. 4 pick.

TheAromaofBooks I hate it when the final pages let you down!!! 4y
mollyrotondo @TheAromaofBooks My rating of a thriller really hinges on those final pages. This book was fun and the ending would have been great but one detail just made it not work in my opinion. But I‘m glad I read it! 4y

This book was only fair for me. I thought it was very unrealistic and way more sexual explicit than it needed to be. The ending was a surprise but very far fetched. While it was enjoyable, it wasn‘t super memorable for me.

Lately I have been in the mood for some good old murder mysteries, and this book hit the spot. I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed it and thought the twist was a good one! It‘s a fast-paced and quick read with some truly despicable characters. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Quick beachy read. The final twist was a good one, but it largely depends on the suspension of disbelief. I have more thoughts in my goodreads review.

I find myself being let down by thrillers a lot lately and I think this is because I read too many of them 🤣

I would give this 3.5 stars. It was a solid 3 stars until the end. 🤯 It was nothing like I was expecting, but I liked it. I don't sail, so there were a lot of descriptions that I didn't pay much attention to because I don't really care about sailing. But I thought it was an interesting storyline and I was intrigued enough that I wanted to see how it ended.

**warning: there are some graphic sex scenes

What a great effing book! I chose it because I‘ve always been fascinated with twins (heck, I even married one!), and it did not disappoint. It‘s dark and twisty with a very satisfying ending. I devoured this in one day! Some of the twists I saw coming, others surprised me. Excellent debut novel! 5⭐️

Important question... Do you read your books with the dust jacket on or no?

MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm Always off. I have a terrible habit of ripping them when I leave them on. When I was young and stupid, I tore off jackets and threw them away. 🤦‍♀️😰 4y
shadowspeak17 I always end up messing them up somehow if I leave them on, no matter how careful I am, so I usually take them off. 4y

#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks Sadly, this is only my second book on my list this month. I've been having a hard time concentrating on reading recently.

I thought this book was just okay. Things felt a little too far fetched and unbelievable at times. It was a quick read with plenty of action though.

I'm offering this ARC up for a #PayItForward. If you're interested, I'll send it on for free, please just comment below and let me know.

TheAromaofBooks Still great progress!! Sometimes you just have to accept that reading isn't what's happening in life right now haha 4y

I know the rating on here for this book is really good. But I just can‘t read anymore of it. There are parts that were making me really uncomfortable and other parts that just made me cringe. I just can‘t send this to the other 4 people in my book club. Anna, Ericka, Samantha, and Liz I will send out an email with some other possible picks.

Oh man. I don‘t even know where to begin to unpack this book. It‘s the ultimate game of clue- winner takes all. In a oddly structured, blended family, the death of the patriarch leaves both sadness, and a bizarre will, behind.

I think this is a solid debut! Ms. Carlyle can certainly weave a story. I was enthralled from page one. The things these people do to secure the Carmichael fortune boggles the mind. The story really highlights everything that is wrong with the relationship between the twin sisters. That ending though. It's like a punch in the gut; so sad and sickening. 😞
