I thoroughly enjoyed this, it's just a veritable cornucopia of book facts and little nuggets of trivia and information.

But also plenty of light hearted subjects too, books made of cheese, slices of meat etc.

Had high hopes of this one as I really enjoy wartime novels but it didn't quite live up to my expectations.
At times it seemed rather directionless and the flitting back and forth between characters and situations is always something I struggle with and may also be the same for other readers.
I didn't really bond with any of the characters either.
The sisters Emma and Audrey I found a little cold and emotionless overall.
Not the best in its genre

It starts in the late 1950s where Drummond meets the well to do Carter while they are both doing their military service.

They age, finish the national service and get married and in time have children.
Civilian life doesn't change the friendship that was formed.
