The Hand That Feeds You
The Hand That Feeds You: A Novel | A.J. Rich
An unnerving, elegant page-turner (Vanity Fair) of psychological suspense about a woman in an intense sexual relationship with a man who turns out to be a predatorby celebrated writers Amy Hempel and Jill Ciment writing as A.J. Rich. Morgan, thirty, is completing her thesis on victim psychology and newly engaged to Bennett, a man more possessive than those she has dated in the past, but also more chivalrousand the sex is hot. She returns from class one day to find Bennett brutally mauled to death, and her beloved dogs covered in blood. When Morgan tries to locate Bennetts parents to tell them about their sons hideous death, she discovers that everything he has told herwhere he was born, where he lives in Montreal, where he workswas a lie. He is not the man he said he was, and he had several fiances, all believing the same promises he gave Morgan. And then, one by one, these other women are murdered. Morgans research into Bennett has taken on new urgency: in order to stay alive, she must find out how an intelligent woman like herself, who studies predators, becomes a victim. For readers of Girl on a Train and Luckiest Girl Alive, this twisty, unsettling thriller (The New York Times) is an irresistible (Vogue) collaboration between two outstanding writers. The Hand That Feeds You goes from zero to terrifying in about five pagesOnce this thriller gets its teeth into you, it doesnt let go (The Tampa Bay Times).

This book was somewhat of a rollercoaster for me - some parts were vividly good, others were boring and tedious, and some felt rushed and predictable.

I appreciated the way in which this book fought against stereotypes associated with certain breeds of dogs... something that needs to be endlessly reiterated. For that, it gets a nod!

All in all a decent read - one that was surprisingly cohesive for having two authors.

A very different type of thriller with the MC‘s dogs having such an integral role in the plot. Some parts were hard to read as a dog lover, but the author did a great job weaving in some breed education. I finished listening to this during the drive of my first trip to Chicago! 🤩🌆❤️🎧

Wow 😳 What a beginning. I'm looking forward to another day of air travel to get through this psycho story.

bookloo I have this and loved it! The reviews for it aren‘t good, but I honestly thought it was a terrific thriller. ☺️💜 7y
BeckaroniAndCheese @bookloo I really enjoyed it too! I try not to read the reviews because I don't want to skew my own opinion. 😊 7y

This was the perfect combination of suspense and mystery for me. I loved how the author highlighted the protectiveness of dogs and how awesome they can be to their humans.

Hooked from the first to the last page!
I knew from the beginning of Morgan she and Billie's relationship that Billie just seemed like the type to insert herself into a situation for her own means, well I was shocked to find out that she was the mastermind to it all!
I was still shocked to find out how diabolical she really was. Such a good ending.
You will root for the dogs almost more than the people "Go Cloud Go"!

The premise is interesting, and the writing is pretty good. There are a few spoiler-y reasons for why I can't rate it higher, but overall it was a decent, quick read. I think I got this on my Kindle from Prime Reading. 3.25 stars

I was really frustrated with the book until about 75% through. Then everything changed and it was so worth it. I had a slight inkling of the twist but it was really well done.

I was forced to stop reading last night right after I read the big twist (my non reader husband desired sleep, weirdo). But I didn't sleep a wink ruminating over it.

I usually find my "thrills" in romance and paranormal, but this psychological #suspense novel was hard to put down... best evidenced by the fact that I took a break from painting and redecorating to finish it.

I really enjoyed this book when I read it last year. If I remember correctly the two authors who collaborated (Amy Hempel and Jill Ciment) were finishing a novel started by one of their friends who died. Anyway, super good thriller! #augustphotochallenge

Found this incredibly boring. There were elements that I thought were going to make the story really take off but it just never felt like it clicked.
