4.5⭐What a great and unique look at car culture from the southern states. This book was a great way to introduce the “low and slow” car culture and used fun adventure as a way to do it. The illustrations were so unique, I loved the inclusion of Spanish words and sayings. It felt authentic and not pushed. Plus the back matter where the author gives a very brief history of low riders and ideas that went into this book is just the icing on the cake.

I finished my pick book for #LMPBC #Round13 #GroupA I don‘t want to give anything away before the rest of the group has gotten a chance to read it, but I will say it surprised me by skewing younger than many of the MG things I‘ve seen lately which was sort of a nice surprise.

This is part of a series and was winner (or honor) of the Pura Belpré award, I don‘t recall what year.

5⭐️ This is another presentation of The STAAR Hall Monitor‘s Reads! Very imaginative graphics but still a great story !

This was a fun read. Very quirky in the best way. This won a Pura Belpré award a few years ago for the illustrations, which were done with a ballpoint pen, which I also loved.

This is another one that‘s been on my TBR. Author Cathy Camper is from Portland and I‘ve been to a Reader‘s Advisory she taught.

I absolutely love this style of artwork. Ballpoint pens and the little details that filled every page. Felt a lot like how I drew in high school. I didn't know anything about lowriders and it was pretty interesting. Science-y facts mixed with silliness when they get into space 😂

I loved this amazing #graphicnovel, celebrating the lowrider culture. While the story is simple, the characters & scenes were super fun. I enjoyed Raul the Third's artwork, which was drawn using only red, blue, & black ballpoint pens. I definitely recommend this book to any graphic novel fans!

A #graphicnovel about three friends who like working on cars. It's drawn with ballpoint pen and peppered with Spanish phrases and references to lowrider culture. This was one of the #bluebonnetbooks for 2016-2017. I don't remember having to read the Bluebonnet Books as a kid but when working at the library, I was impressed with the great selection of books on these lists. Kids got really excited about reading and voting on these books.

This book is muy fabuloso! A great read if you like diverse books and feminism (note the nod to Wonder Woman on her top). The art is super - all done in ballpoint pen!

How about some #diverse #comics? Raúl the Third's art is to die for in the Lowriders series. If "bajito y suavecito" isn't already in your daily lexicon, it will be after you read this all-ages masterpiece. #diversereads #booktober #middlegrade
