Great book. Actionable stuff in here and a reminder that dads are parents too, not just “helping out!”
So good. I love this series and now can‘t wait for the third one!!!
Love this book. We just did it with our middle grade bookclub (ages 8-12) and they loved it too. Trust me when I say it‘s awesome!
Book two did not disappoint. Strong, well defined, realistic characters in a magical world with art, sacred geometry, action, adventure, and mysteries!
Loved this first in the series. Awesome characters and a fun fantasy world.
This is also my pick for a book about death or grief for the #popsugarreadingchallenge
Such a great and important book. Longer review on instagram (I‘m at kathyellendavis there too!)
Another great holiday book! The girls are so excited to get a real Christmas tree this year, until Maple is allergic to it. Willow wins the season by coming up with the sweetest solution. #kidlit #picturebooks #kidlitsy
What a beautiful book!!! A seemingly simple story about two birds and a tree that will tug at your heartstrings. The art is unbelievably gorgeous. A must have for every holiday collection.
I read this one aloud to a group of girls for a sort of “girl power“story time, and they absolutely loved it. It‘s so fun to see all the bright colors, and to read about them too! .
.
The girls enjoyed how Mary persisted, how she became the boss, and finding parts of Disney in her illustrations. They were absolutely amazed at what she painted and the ride that she eventually created. An inspiring book for anyone who dreams in vivid color. #kidlit
I really like the short stories of the women in this book. Paired with the illustrations, each story draws you in and makes you cheer for the woman profiled. I also love that a quote is included from each person; it‘s empowering to be able to share words they actually said or wrote. I can‘t wait for the sequel which features women from all around the world. #kidlit #picturebooks #kidlitsy
What a fun book! I love the dogs in both families and how Antoinette uses her bravery to save the day. #kidlitsy #kidlit #picturebooks
Nice read aloud. The rhyming text is fun, as are all the situations the princess is in wearing pants. The illustrations are s feast for your eyes; I loved seeing what the cat was up to on each page! #kidlit #picturebooks #kidlitsy
Who wouldn‘t love Jack? He‘s a little monkey that waves at you, likes snacks, and lives in a tree. And Jack is also pretty mischievous. When he gets hold of some lipstick, look out! Supporting characters Rex and The Lady are great too, but Jack steals the show. Kids will be able to relate, who sometimes acts bad, throws tantrums, and is tricky. Sentences range from one to ten words. With lots of repetition and big bold illustrations!
Each page evokes a bit of quiet, tradition, and perhaps nostalgia in the reader. The illustrations are gorgeous; I especially like how light is handled in each composition and the use of white space. Each word on each page is PERFECT; there are just the right amount of words (very few) to draw us in and describe the kind of quiet. I also love how certain moments link together. A seemingly simple book that is a must for your holiday collection.
Loving this! A good listen so far; about halfway done.
A beautiful book that will make you wonder more about people, the world, and the night.
Excellent book about how one little voice of bravery can inspire others to stand up for what's right too.
A fun back to school book that doesn't focus on the first day of school. And Bigfoot: how can you go wrong??? #kidlitsy #picturebooks
So great! Love this whole series about these peas. A fresh alphabet book! #kidlitsy #picturebooks
Love all these cat books and this teacher one is equally funny and sweet. Check it out! #picturebooks #kidlitsy
This was a funny picture book! I loved the ending! Perfect for my 6 year old nephew who is SO OVER mosquitoes!
Loved the book as much as the movie! Cracked up a few times too!
Love this series! Quick reads that give you great info...like Jo did not have a middle name (like I don't!) and gave herself the K name (Kathleen) after her grandmother when they suggested she go by her initials for the book. Happy 20th, Harry Potter books! #kidlit #kidlitsy #harrypotter #jkrowling
Loved this book! It's the start of a fantastic series that take place in a fairy tale type land. Friends, family, magic, good, evil, and sweet rolls are in store for you if you read this series. I love the narrator adding in stuff throughout. Full disclaimer: my friend wrote these, but they're awesome regardless. The first 7 are out; in flying through them! #kidlit #kidlitsy #middlegrade #fantasy #series
A missing cupcake? Good thing these adorable owls are on the case. I love you the little chapters, full color illustrations throughout, and detective work. Kids will be inspired to solve cases after reading this series! #kidlit #chapterbook #earlyreader
A really cute early reader! With full color illustrations throughout! I like how they are thorough and the cases are mysterious but also solvable for the young readers. #kidlit #earlyreader #chapterbook
I'm going to a workshop run by Courtney Stevens and stumbled upon this ARC. Billie has one great girl friend and four great boy friends: together they form the Hexagon. Trouble starts brewing when feelings grow between some of the friends, and Billie is confused about who she likes more; one of her guy friends or her girl friend. The kids in this book are so great to each other. I love the theme of figuring yourself out + different types of love.
A stunner of a Middle Grade book, as well as a great window into a religion and society I don't know much about. Amina juggles family, school, friendships and music, as well as her duties at the mosque. I'm heartened to think about all the kids who will see themselves in this book.
The Bad Guys are back, joined by a new BAD guy: a tarantula! But they're trying to be good, and hope to bust out some chickens at a chicken farm who are living in cages. Will Snake be able to rescue the chickens and NOT eat them? Another funny one.
This is a funny little chapter book series. Traditional bad guys trying to be good in this graphic novel. Really funny and a quick read. I love the Shark the most. Or maybe the piranha.
Awesome graphic novel about Fish Girl and her friends, living cooped up in a sir of aquarium. Beautiful illustrations by David Wiesner. #kidlitsy #kidlit #graphicnovels
Hilarious, short, great art, awesome characters. Laser Moose shoots lasers out of his eyeballs. Rabbit boy is a rabbit with unending optimism. Together they solve mysteries and stop danger in its tracks. #kidlitsy #graphicnovels
3rd one. You know I loved it.
Second one. I won't spoil it but great!
Awesome graphic novel series! Cleopatra is transported to the WAY FAR future and learns she's part of a prophecy to save the world. But she also goes to school like a normal 15 year old. Great for Middle Grade readers and up! #kidlitsy #graphicnovels
The sequel! Blurbed by Amy Sedaris. That's pretty much all you need to know.
Awesome graphic novel with Spanish phrases to learn, a solar system to explore, three awesome friends, and art donei with ballpoint pens!
Amazing. A great book to help all of us be a better support for our friends and family. A lot to use in here.
This book was creepy, but I liked it! Had to keep flipping the pages to see what would happen next! I thought the world was set up pretty well, but I still had some questions. I thought the characters were well done too. It was an interesting premise and a lot to take on. I liked the philosophical conversations and leanings too. Second one out a year from now!
I liked this book! Lots of gems of wisdom and truth here. Yes, lots of white space too. But I see that as an invitation to collaborate and get out a pen to write in the book! That's what I'm doing! #loveforanykrouserosenthal
Loved this! I rarely read adult books, but this one came recommended from a coworker at the bookstore. It follows Mele who lives in San Francisco and has an almost 3-year-old daughter with a guy who happened to be engaged when she got pregnant. She's got a great group of friends in a mommy group, and asks for stories about her their lives that she turns into recipes. It's interesting, fresh, and totally relatable!
Sequel to I'll be there. This one has the fitting everything together stories, a crazy kidnapping, a new friend/enemy, and more grit. Read it in a day.
SO GOOD! Family, friendships, adventure, survival...gritty and hopeful. This is an ARC I borrowed from a friend but the book has been out for years! Read it!
Such a cute early reader! Out in April! Charlie and Mouse have adventures that are perfect in their everyday-ness. A funny and cute book and the start of what will be a classic series I think! #kidlitsy #earlyreader
