“Let us fear ourselves. Prejudices are the real robbers; vices are the real murderers. The great dangers lie within ourselves. What matters is what threatens our head or our purse! Let us think only of that which threatens our soul.”

Now that is impressive...and a great light hearted way to deal.

Was considering rereading The Brick since it's been nearly eighteen years and I could read it for free. Then I remembered my TBR list and decided to wait to find a pretty edition to buy.
Day 1: most wrecked book, #crimesagainstcovers @ErinSueG found these in a library‘s for sale shed. I felt bad because I didn‘t think anyone was going to buy them and give them a home, so I did. 😂
I am wondering why I allowed the length of this book to hinder me from reading it for so long. I wish I had read it before I saw the musical... on principle I try to read most books before I watch the movie, and I guess this is similar, but the first time I saw Les Miserables the musical I was not at a time in my life where I could take time to read the book.

Thank you so much Rachael! When @ScorpioBookDreams sister was in New York she brought back this gorgeous B&N edition I‘ve been coveting ❤️📚
I‘m setting a belated New Years resolution for myself: try to read this beast in a year
"Isabeau rushed out; the thief used his legs valiantly."
Love Hugo's writing style ?❤

This cheered me up on this cold, miserable afternoon ?❤
"See the mountaineers of Devolny, a country so wild that the nightingale is not heard there once in fifty years."
Loving the descriptions ?❤

I know people rave on about how awesome this book is...but it depressed me so much that I was practically suicidal!
The poor man shuddered, overflowed with an angelic joy; he declared in his transport that this would last through life; he said to himself that he really had not suffered enough to deserve such radiant happiness, and he thanked God, in the depths of his soul, for having permitted that he, a miserable man, should be so loved by this innocent being.
#FunFridayPhoto high school sophomore English and Les Mis started my obsession with reading. Yes I was that one person in class that actually read the book and could answer the teacher's questions 🤓🤓.
