Two Lives of Lydia Bird
Two Lives of Lydia Bird | Josie Silver

Two lives. Two loves. One impossible choice. From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Reese's Book Club Pick One Day in December. . . "I read The Two Lives of Lydia Bird in a single sitting. What a beautiful, emotional gift Josie Silver has given us."--Jodi Picoult Written with Josie Silver's trademark warmth and wit, The Two Lives of Lydia Bird is a powerful and thrilling love story about the what-ifs that arise at life's crossroads, and what happens when one woman is given a miraculous chance to answer them. Lydia and Freddie. Freddie and Lydia. They'd been together for more than a decade and Lydia thought their love was indestructible. But she was wrong. On Lydia's twenty-eighth birthday, Freddie died in a car accident. So now it's just Lydia, and all she wants is to hide indoors and sob until her eyes fall out. But Lydia knows that Freddie would want her to try to live fully, happily, even without him. So, enlisting the help of his best friend, Jonah, and her sister, Elle, she takes her first tentative steps into the world, open to life--and perhaps even love--again. But then something inexplicable happens that gives her another chance at her old life with Freddie. A life where none of the tragic events of the past few months have happened. Lydia is pulled again and again through the doorway to her past, living two lives, impossibly, at once. But there's an emotional toll to returning to a world where Freddie, alive, still owns her heart. Because there's someone in her new life, her real life, who wants her to stay.

LauraBeth @Tamra when I took him for his vet checkup I told the vet: “I know nothing about this breed of dog, please educate me...“ and the vet said, “The only thing you really need to know is that you cannot and should not under any circumstances, feed him table food bc mini-schnauzers can't handle it.“ I was like, you're gonna need to deliver that message to him, not me! 😂 14mo

Such a great romance novel. It can get a bit confusing with Lydia's two lives, but I am a sucker for a good romance novel.

One_With_Books It luckily only got on just a few pages and it dried clear! Not exterior damage from what I can see. I‘m happy it‘s not super noticeable 4y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 easily one of my favorite books this year! I felt every emotion so deeply and loved how intimate the writing was. Must read for anyone who loves a good cathartic cry!

Yay! My library hold finally came in.

I had picked up One Day in December on a whim mainly because I liked the cover. I read it in one sitting, so I couldn‘t wait to get this one.

So I‘m putting aside my other reads and will be diving into this one.

JustReadingJess I love this book! 4y
CWilson I picked this up from the library Friday and I read it in one sitting! I just didn‘t want to put it down. (edited) 4y
wanderinglynn @CWilson I would‘ve done that too, but stupid work interferes! 😆😉 4y
jewright I have a hold on this book right now! There‘s a long wait. 4y

⭐️⭐️⭐️ This one was okay. I didn‘t love it but I didn‘t hate it. I thought it was a good book about grief but Lydia relying on sleeping pills in order to escape into the dream world with Freddie was distressing. And there were choices made by certain characters that didn‘t always make sense. But I enjoyed participating in the discussion with #sundaybuddyread because we could all vent about the parts that frustrated all of us!

kspenmoll Agree with you about the discussions! 4y
mollyrotondo @kspenmoll they really make some of these books so much more enjoyable! 4y

When Lydia‘s fiancée passes away unexpectedly, her world comes crashing down. One night she takes a pill to help her sleep and her deceased fiancée appears in her dreams. Is her mind playing tricks on her or is it something more? This had a lot of promise with Lydia leading parallel lives. However, they squandered an opportunity to explore the importance of the premise. Lydia had one foot in each world, but neither seemed to make her happy.

rjsthumbelina Agreed. It felt like she could have used some really good editing. There was so much room for interesting/important conversations, and she missed the mark and went for fluffy romance, which didn't really mix with the story 4y
Purrfectpages @rjsthumbelina yes, it was a disappointing mess considering how much I liked her other book. 4y
kspenmoll Great review- i was also disappointed, disenchanted- would have Bailed but for #summerbuddyread discussions! 4y

I get that she's grieving and hurt and I get that she knows she's being hurtful and mean but wow she's being hurtful and mean, I'm sure it's not just her suffering, I feel insensitive but I'm not a big fan of her right now, that said, I think it's an interesting story so far!

My favorite thing about the book was the way that grief was handled. I thought that the author did a decent job with that, for the most part. I didn't really connect with any of the characters, but I'm not sure if that was intentional or not. I didn't like a few of the plot points throughout, and though I liked the ending itself, I didn't much care for the workup to the ending. Overall, decent, but not very memorable #Sundaybuddyread

pareads I absolutely agree with you. I enjoyed it, but didn‘t love it. I did really enjoy her other book One Day in December if you haven‘t read it yet! 4y

Can't sleep anymore this morning due to acid reflux. ☹️ I guess that happens when there's a 5 lb baby where your stomach should be, but man is this 3rd trimester momma tired! Oh well - I guess it's time to catch up on this on for the #Sundaybuddyread discussion today!

Aswenson It‘s a slow burn, I felt impatient reading it, but ultimately I felt it reflected the slow progression of her grief. 4y

Josee.lit.a.lu.et.lira Funny that you mentionne the cover, most readers in SBR worried about an addiction in the first part, but I kept thinking ? « How bad can this story really be, the cover is rosy peach with cute characters on it!?! » I felt, from the beginning, that it‘s a trust the process, time heals type of story. I‘m into dreams to heal in my life, so I‘m really enjoying it. I like the humour and quirkyness the author displays around a difficult subject. 4y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I‘m not in love either, but we have read worse!! Lol lovely photo!! 💗 4y

I was quite moved reading it. I was hooked, great FL for me. It also resonates with the other book I‘m reading - A Gentleman in Moscow, a little before mid book he tackles the same idea, in regards to what makes history, in hindsight. ?

#FirstLineFridays

KVanRead Funny was just thinking about this idea as it came up in Normal People: “I think we‘re at that weird age where life can change a lot from small decisions.” 4y
Josee.lit.a.lu.et.lira @KVanRead Also. The most important choices are the ones we repeat every day, weather healthy or toxic. It‘s rarely about the big ones. 4y
ShyBookOwl I agree, great opening 4y

When I started this book, I said I was hoping for a fun read. I don't know if I'd call this book fun, but it was lovely. I cried, and I felt Lydia's struggles, but I never felt that it was too heavy to pick up. I cared about the characters and their journeys. Recommended!

#CoronaBreak Book 8. I say that I hate romance, but then I weep during a book like this. Sigh. It was predictable, sure, but suspenseful enough that I wanted to keep reading. I have to give Silver credit in that she made me feel every single one of Lydia‘s emotions, good and bad.
