First in a new cozy mystery series. Journaled to Death follows a divorced mother navigate a murder in her own basement. Add in for fun she‘s also a blogger...about journaling. I‘m usually into the cozy mystery genre but this one didn‘t do it for me. It just kept plodding along and felt like a chore to finish. Found at my local library. #cozymystery #bookstagram #booklover #booknerdproblems #helenplumlibrary #librarybooksarethebest #librarybook

Historical romance. A little heavy on the romance but still a great read. #botm

Another awesome book by Backman. Twists and turns but you end up really liking all of the characters. Trigger warning it does discuss depression and suicide. #botm

I think this book is great. Follows along the story arc with family coming over from America. And a bit of murder. And injury. Overall a pick!

SW-T Enjoyable series. Read first two and this one‘s on my TBR. 4y

I found this book hard to get into. I liked the female characters but was left wanting more. She could have named this book We All Have Problems or lighter version of Big Little Lies...

LiteraryinPA Hmm. I'm starting this today but I've heard lots of mixed things. I'm curious if I'll like it or not! 4y
BookofWords @LiteraryinLititz I liked it but didn‘t love it. It was missing something... 4y

t‘s an alright book. I would really give it in between pick and so-so if I could. It started off slow and then steady till about the last 1/3rd where it really took off.
All the right elements were there but you just failed to care about any of them and that‘s the problem.

marleed Yea, i liked it too - definitely on the light side. It wouldn‘t have taken much to make it a bit darker and more interesting. I jotted down notes on it late - a week after reading and the only character I could fully describe without flipping through the book was the MC. It doesn‘t bode well for me describing this to someone a few months from now;) 4y

Don‘t expect a cozy read here. Or like able characters. Everyone has their flaws. Esp the men. This was gory in parts which I typically do not read, but I managed to make it through the more squeamish parts. But overall I enjoyed the story arc.

Reggie Yeah, I wanted to punch all the husbands. 4y
KathyWheeler @Reggie Me too — at one point, they made me so mad that I had to put the book down for a bit. 4y
Erinreadsthebooks Yep, Hendrix is definitely making a point about a certain type of Southern husband during that decade. I love this book! 4y

veritysalter The husbands 🤬 - I couldn‘t believe how much 90s Southern US is like an English village (less the heat and the vampires), if you substitute the Six Mile for a Council Estate it‘s uncanny. Great book though. 4y

This was my son‘s first chapter book that he read on his own. I read the book along with him, more like a buddy read so we could discuss it after. This kid is really a jerk. So it did provide the opportunity for us to speak about some of his behaviors in the book. Is he grown up Cailou???

If you enjoy long crafted long sentences this book is for you. I enjoyed the story but it was very long and arduous at times. I love the Count, that‘s what pulled me through.

Djspens I heard the author speak last year, lol he talks like he writes... loooong 5y
BookofWords @Djspens I can imagine. He wrote a whole paragraph about a sentence. 5y

This book is fused with humor, grief, and loss. The inside flap says “A hilarious novel...” The written Laura Zigman is definitely funny and articulate. What comes through is the compassion of a woman going through many difficult relationships in her life.

Not my book. Story wants to do everything of its age. Vampire, werewolf, angels, demons, more sci-fi, mommy daddy issues. Too much for me. And the story arc takes too long. I can‘t see how so many people have followed all her books for so long.

Part mystery, part romance, part time travel. Pleasant to but not my favorite by her by far. The first part sucks you in, and the second just pulls you through. Leaves with tons of questions.

I was so excited to read this book. Multiple families, drama, suburban school setting, I‘m in. But you don‘t really end up liking any of the characters. They‘re all evil and weird in their own ways. But it held my interest enough for me to finish it hence the so-so rating. Thanks #botm for another mediocre pick.

BookBelle84 The fact that the author managed to make all the characters so different and still all of them flawed and unlikeable is what I liked about the book.😁 5y

I could not get into this book at all. Not even 75 pages in. I just don‘t care. I typically enjoy all her books. Not today. And not in 69.

marleed I liked it okay but I think as historical fiction this was a fail. I think she needed to focus on one family being significantly impacted by one maybe two events of that historical summer. But retrofitting one fam into every event made the story hokey. 5y

“An ordinary town transformed by a mysterious illness that triggers perpetual sleep.” This book is amazing, i was instantly transported to this town. I couldn‘t put it down over the weekend. It‘s not about the how or why of the virus so that maybe aggravating to some people. It‘s more about the characters and what they are going through as the town goes under. 📚 📖
