I like that the community gets together at the end to build a park together.

Great story about a determined 2nd grader who works hard to change her town. She fights for what she wants and gets the whole town involved. This book rhymes which gives it a nice flow. The words surround the images and bring focus to them. The pictures are full of diversity.

This picture book was super cute and explained the journey of a young second grade girl who wanted to make her town better. She had many ideas and was afraid to bring them to city hall, but she stepped into her bravery and was able to get the job done. The message of this story is for young readers to believe in themselves. The illustrations are simple and have a lot of white space around them, making it easy for kids to look at.

This is a great addition to a great series. I find that they cadence in this book can be broken in places and it takes the reader from the story, but overall it‘s a fine read. Sofia wants to change a landfill to a park, but realizes she cannot do it alone. She goes to city hall to get her dreams accomplished and realized what it takes to bring others together for the betterment of her community.

Bookzombie I really like this series. 3y

melodyp This is a great RA/RT book that uses UDL 3.2 (highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas and relationships) and EL 3 (encourage self talk/positive thinking) 4y

♥️♥️♥️ On the last few #readharder tasks. This one is for task 18, a book with a human main character from marginalized community. This is a cute little story about the beginnings of public service.

I immediately thought of Sofia Valdez. When her Abuelo is hurt chasing a squirrel through a local trash heap, Sofia imagines turning that heap into a beautiful park. She takes her idea to the community and then all the way to City Hall. She may only be in 2nd grade, but she's already learned that anyone can make a difference in their community. #litfortunecookie @KVanRead

readordierachel @vivastory Glad you didn't hit it! There are a ton of squirrels here and I feel like that happens every couple weeks. I always hear George Constanza yelling at the pigeons in my head, "We had a deal!" Lol 4y

This is one our favorite bedtime books. Great story about being a part of your community and trying to enact change even when you feel small. As you can see, the art is beautiful. And I love that little Sofia's bedroom is a tribute to Sade, who is everything ❤

merelybookish This is great! And Sade is a goddess. 5y
vivastory I haven't thought of Safe in forever! I will definitely be listening to her this week because of this review. Speaking of music, are you a Fiona Apple fan? Her latest is spectacular! 5y

vivastory Thanks 😊 You're in for a treat... I think it's possibly my favorite album so far this year... although the new Strokes album is really good and I also really like the new Pearl Jam 5y
readordierachel @vivastory Omg, there are new Strokes and Pearl Jam albums too??? Obviously I am living under a rock (so much Baby Shark and Disney). That's awesome news! 5y
vivastory Yep! The Pearl Jam single Dance of the Clairvoyants was my favorite song of 2020 so far, but I feel that's going to be replaced by one of the F Apple songs. But the Strokes album is really really good too 5y
batsy @merelybookish Absolutely agreed on Sade 🙌🏽 @readordierachel I haven't listened to the new Fiona Apple yet either; I'm saving it for the right moment (I feel like I need a whole week to be left alone with a new Fiona album 😍) 5y
readordierachel @batsy you've got the right idea 😀❤ 5y
Reggie Sade- Love Deluxe is one of my favorite all time albums. 5y
