I just could not get into this story - it wasn't bad, interesting premise, writing was fine - it's me not you.
I did get a #BookSpinBingo and I did finish the two books I set out to finish for #20in4 and #FabulousFebruary (both with the help of a bail🤣)

What wasn‘t there to like about this book? I like ghost stories, books about time travel, and antiques. This book had it all. I‘m not really into the romance genre, but that didn‘t bother me with this story. I loved reading about the English countryside, both past and present. Wilshire is definitely on my bucket list to visit one day. Luckily, I found the next book in this series at the Dollar Tree! Can‘t wait to dig in.

I read this based on the recommendation of my friend Sherry for the #12Challenge.

Its a time travel mystery with a contemporary timeline and one in the early 1700‘s. It was light and fun if somewhat predictable. I liked the little town it was set in and the minor characters, and the antique shop set up was fun.

I doubt I would have picked it up without the recommendation, so I‘m glad the challenge brought it into my TBR.

CatLass007 I must have seen a review of this on Goodreads. It‘s already on my Audible wish list. This and 5,791 other titles. 🙀 1y
Soubhiville @CatLass007 I know that feeling! I don‘t use audible but my Libby to-read stack is huge. The audio was good. 1y

A cute story with a thread of mystery plot point. I liked it more after the first 100 pages or so when the action picked up.

Time travel and maybe a little romance? Well, it‘s not Outlander…but this first book in the series was ok. I‘m interested enough to read the next book. I want to like Xanthe, the main character, and her mother Flora. They have some good neighbors & friends too. Hope I get to know more about them. The history was cool too.

I was excited about this book from all hype I've read from other people. It was nice, though I felt as though it was a slow start with a mild climax. I don't know, maybe I'm in a Reader's Funk but I just felt like this was sort of an interesting start. I have hopes book two will be better. Some series take awhile to get great.

This book has mystery, romance, and a kind of magic—normally all the things I enjoyed. Sadly, it just didn‘t work for me. I just didn‘t connect with the MC and eventually I just skimmed it to finish it.

This was my second and last Brackston book. Her books have intriguing premises, but I just don‘t connect to her stories.

Book 1 for #awesomeApril
And this is my April #doublespin book

Andrew65 Great 👏👏👏 4y
TheAromaofBooks I feel that way about Katherine Reay - I try to read her books because her premises sound like they should be just up my alley, but they consistently fall flat for me. 4y
Roary47 I did the same thing on this one. I got lost in the back and forth it does. 4y

Most of this book, I was in between on. I didn‘t hate it, didn‘t love it. But found I needed to know what happened. One of those things I just can‘t explain. There wasn‘t anything special to me. Just invested in it.

Ghosts and time travel! A lovely surprise 🥰

Really enjoyed this one, I was drawn in by the cover so went in without knowing anything . If I had of known before what it was about I probably wouldn‘t have picked it , it‘s not my usual read, love it when that happens

Book 112

I listened to this story about Xanthe, to whom some rare antiques "speak", traveling through time to save the daughter of the ghost by which she is haunted. The nonsensical elements infuriated me, but, to feel so passionately, I recognize a high level of engagement. Fun. 3.5 stars

I initially picked this up because of the cover. I am also a sucker for a story about an antique shop. I enjoyed the setting, Marlborough, and the historical details of Ley Lines, Blind Houses, Great Chalfield Manor and the functions of Chatelaines. I love History and I love anything connected to England so these aspects of the story stood out to me.

Time travel. Xanthe has always been able to feel the past. When her and her mom move to sell antiques a very forward spirit chooses her to save her daughter in the past. This is not Outlander but it‘s a good story. Samuel is the man in this one but will book two be the book where Xanthe goes back? Not sure if I‘ll go there🤫🤭🤔. I did learn what a chatelaine is. You can look that one up!

It took me longer than normal to finish this one, as quarantine in my case did not allow for more time for reading. My kids being home 24/7 meant more duties for me as "teacher" and "entertainer" lol. It had a bit of a slow start, but it picked up and the characters were likeable enough to keep me going long enough to see that. I like the way it turned out, and the resolution wasn't anticlimactic as I assumed it would be in the beginning lol.

This is the only time I've been able to read lately, with the kiddos being home, I've been trying to keep them entertained. Tomorrow we're starting them on a schedule, and designated reading time is included, which I'll also be partaking in. 😁 It was a bit of a slow start with this book (tagged), but it's picking up and I'm thoroughly enjoying it!

Charming and magical! I've seen comparisons to Outlander, but it's more Outlander-light. When you need a dose of time travel romance and a dash of danger without tons sex and death.

I found the story to be sweet and endearing, with a few paranormal/fantasy twists. And while I enjoyed the story, it‘s not one that I‘ll be picking up again in the near future. Nor do I find the need to continue along the series, Since I feel that the ending what is enough.

julesG @Birdsong28 Way too late. Should have stated this in the beginning. ? Wish I could get my money back. There should be a satisfaction guarantee with "over-priced" ebooks. 6y
Birdsong28 @julesG You can return ebooks on Amazon. You can ask them through the customer service option. But yeh they should come with a satisfaction rating. I only get ebooks if they are either free or £2.99 or less or through Netgalley. 📚📖 6y
julesG @Birdsong28 I got book 2 in the series through NetGalley and thought I should read the first. Trustworthy Littens had given it pick ratings, so I was willing to spend the 15€. Not even sure I can give it back, Germany has some strange rules. I'd better check with amazon 6y

Ouch!

Already spotted a grammar mistake and an inconsistency of facts (who told who, what and when), and a tiny thing that bugs me - time travelling to the year 1605 with 17th century folklore information 😕, I'd go for late 16th century information. But, I am a stickler.

Is this a reason for a #HistoricalFictionInaccuracyAnnoyanceSupportGroup meeting?

Also, why oh why can't they edit books properly?

julesG @JazzFeathers @GingerAntics @RavenLovelyReads @Birdsong28 @KCorter — it's not a case of inaccuracy YET. I was just wondering, if you knew exactly what day+month+year you are time travelling back to in the past, why prepare using info on the whole century ahead instead of the last 20 to 50 years? 6y
RaimeyGallant That's so rong. 6y
julesG @RaimeyGallant They could have got it wright. 😁 6y
RaimeyGallant Your always wright. 6y
GingerAntics What do you need all that info for? That‘s not right. 6y
CoverToCoverGirl Ouch... that is wholly unacceptable! And I‘d like to join your group too! 😎 6y
julesG @GingerAntics It's good to know what you're about to head into, but I would have gone for local information on the area, the year prior to my "destination" and so on. 6y
Weaponxgirl Ouch! 6y
GingerAntics Right? You need very specific information and there is no reason not to have it if you know the exact year you‘re going to. If all you have is a general knowledge of when you‘re going to, then yeah, but specific year, get specific with your info, too. 6y
julesG @GingerAntics She knows date and place, knows who she has to meet,... She could have got soooo much information. At 66% she noticed she should have looked up a few things. *face-palm* I paid 15€ for the book, I need to finish it. But I feel ripped off and I will say so in my review. 6y
GingerAntics Ouch, that‘s a lot. I certainly would add that to the review. That is just wrong. It took her that long to figure out she should have looked up some things? Then she‘s also an idiot. Eh. 6y
