A Rogue of One's Own
A Rogue of One's Own | Evie Dunmore
A lady must have money and an army of her own if she is to win a revolutionbut first, she must pit her wits against the wiles of an irresistible rogue bent on wrecking her plansand her heart. Lady Lucie is fuming. She and her band of Oxford suffragists have finally scraped together enough capital to control one of Londons major publishing houses, with one purpose: to use it in a coup against Parliament. But who could have predicted that the one person standing between her and success is her old nemesis and Londons undisputed lord of sin, Lord Ballentine? Or that he would be willing to hand over the reins for an outrageous pricea night in her bed. Lucie tempts Tristan like no other woman, burning him up with her fierceness and determination every time they clash. But as their battle of wills and words fans the flames of long-smouldering devotion, the silver-tongued seducer runs the risk of becoming caught in his own snare. As Lucie tries to out-manoeuvre Tristan in the boardroom and the bedchamber, she soon discovers theres truth in what the poets say: all is fair in love and war

I read this entertaining romance novel for cat book club at the humane society. Lucie is estranged from her aristocratic family because of her dedication to the women's suffrage movement; Tristan is Lord Ballentine, an infamous rogue with hidden depths. And of course there is Lucie's cat Boudicca, who plays a key role in the story. A fast, fun, and well-paced tale framed by the (seemingly neverending) effort to establish equal rights for women.

1. Android! The rest of my family are Apple fans, but I am not.

2. I'm currently reading the tagged book, A Rogue of One's Own, a romance novel selected by my cat book club because it prominently features a cat. I ran out of time to pick up a copy, so I'm reading it on my phone. Good fun!

This is such a well written book, very historically accurate & therefore sad.
Lucie is devoted to the Cause and she and her friends are determined to get their report to print - but she doesn‘t contend with the wiles and skills of her unwanted partner in printing and what they can learn from each other.
This is one of the best romance books I‘ve read. I really enjoyed it but it is also sad and kind of scary given current events. 4/5

This was no more and no less than what I expected. An entertaining romp with a small side of historical facts about Britain‘s Married Women‘s Property Act. It is a gentle reminder of the women who came before who paved the way.

I‘ve now read 2 out of the series & plan on reading the rest. Good, fun, light read surrounding the women‘s marriage act of 1880 in England. Lucie and her fellow suffragettes are continuing to try & raise public awareness through print. Lucie comes up against Lord Ballantine from her childhood. I‘ve enjoyed the series so far. I do also enjoy the historical accuracy that Dunmore uses in her stories. #bookspin book

My book guilty pleasure is historical romance. Light with maybe a few interesting facts thrown in. They are usually fast and fun and make a great palate cleanser when experiencing a book hangover. Rogue is also on my #14Books14Weeks list.

And I 💜 me some Backstreet Boys regardless of the crap I get from family. Song pick: I Want it that Way

Looking forward to a new playlist. I LOVED the May choices!

I liked this romance between a suffragette and a roguish lord - it was charming with just the right level of more-or-less believable angst. TI also appreciated that the HEA didn‘t throw away the heroine‘s principles 😂 However, I didn‘t love it partly because I‘m not a fan of the whole ‘I‘ll give you what you want if you spend a night with me‘ trope. A soft pick.

I love the unapologetic feminism of Dunmore‘s series; what a great take on the typical historical romance. I really loved how she ended this one. It did feel a bit long and took me a surprisingly long time to get through, although being sick with Covid definitely didn‘t help - did not feel like reading at all. Really glad to be mostly through it! #romantsy

I like the topics in this books a bit more than the steam - a suffragette woman fighting particularly for a married woman‘s right to retain her own money and not be owned by a man for whatever purposes he saw fit, and a roque who sympathizes and supports the plight of women. The books are just a bit too long for me making the banter grow old. Still a pick because I knew what I was getting into with book two.

This was such a good book! I couldn't put it down. Tristan and Lucy's relationship was so flirtatious/angsty and oh my gosh, the ENDING! The last three-four chapters, I was obsessed! When Lucy caught Tristan with her cousin and at the house! She was a total boss! I loved the plot and the way Evie Dunmore didn't overpower the story with feminism, but still made it a prominent theme. I loved it.

I really liked the 1st one in this series but something just happened in this one that really bugs me. Aren't these Historical Romances supposed to be written with Modern Day Sensibilities in mind? Will put the quote in comments so as not to spoil.

I was super impressed with this follow-up to Bringing Down the Duke. In fact, I found myself liking this story and MC Lucie even more. The title‘s allusion to Virginia Woolf‘s essay is very appropriate, as Lucie‘s work revolves around getting the Married Property Act amended, and ensuring her financial independence. The relationship between the love interests is also well done. Now excited for the 3rd installment, coming out in 2021!

⭐️⭐️⭐️ for this one. It was just okay. I appreciated the strong female main character and her passion and drive to fight for women‘s rights. I really liked that the ending respected that sentiment, as well. Overall though, there was just something missing for me. Some parts felt a bit slow and I could have used more romantic scenes. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ part of why I didn‘t love this one as much as book 1-my expectations/hopes were very high. This was a good book, well written, strong characters, definite character development & the romance grew in a way that made sense. However, I didn‘t like either of the main characters that much, especially Tristan, so that also made it hard to fully lose myself in the story. I‘m still interested in the series & look forward to book 3 next year!
