Soft pick. I was hoping for a little more depth from this one. It starts off strong with a British-y, Roald Dahl/JK Rowling vibe, and lots of promising characters, but the plot never really gains any momentum. A sweet, feel-good story of a man who lives his life as a cog in the machine of society waking up to new possibilities and allowing himself to love and be loved. It was pleasant to read, but ultimately a bit treacly. #auldlangspine

TheIntrovertedDodoBird I love TJ Klune! You should check out some of his adult fiction if you're looking for a more gritty read! 😊 10mo
CSeydel @TheIntrovertedDodoBird I‘ve heard good things ☺️ is there one you particularly recommend? 10mo
TheIntrovertedDodoBird @CSeydel I highly recommend Into This River I Drown and Murmuration. Both are dark and gritty. Also, the Greencreek series and the Immemorial Year duology are absolutely incredible! Then, if you're looking for something entirely different, try How To Be A Normal Person. It's honestly hilarious 😊. I've pretty much read everything he's ever written now 😂. 10mo

I saw this book described as a warm #Hug and thought that encapsulates the reading experience so perfectly. #NovemberNarrative @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

(not my photo, but I really like the more subdued colors on this version of the cover)

#Two4Tuesday

1. All of them honestly. Winter is really grey (grey and then grey some more) where I live so any and all color is much appreciated.

2. The Secret Garden, as a number of other people have also noted, but I‘m also going to say the tagged book. Much like the arrival of the first flowers of spring, sunlight, and warming temperatures, this book just makes me smile and think happy thoughts.

@TheSpineView

TheSpineView Thanks for playing! 3y

A fantastic #newyearwhodis list from @JackOBotts 🎉😍 I‘ve already read #1&3 - loved both. The tagged book is on my #newyearwhodis2022 list also & I read it last January because it was on @BarbaraJean ‘s list!

The top 3 pictured are already on my TBR list so I will definitely read those. I‘ve been meaning to read more Matt Haig books for years. I‘ve also been meaning to try Colson Whitehead. There is No Good Card looks fascinating & new to me ⬇️

BarbaraJean Ooooh, this looks like a great list! I‘m going to be stalking so many people‘s lists today!! 3y
MeganAnn The Cause of Freedom looks like it may be a difficult but important read and is also one I hadn‘t heard of previously. I‘m hoping to get to it as well at some point during 2022 if not in January - mostly depending on my mood and if I can mentally fit both that and Stamped in the same month. The Whispering Dead looks like a fun supernatural mystery type book I hadn‘t seen before and if time allows I hope to read that as well. 3y
MeganAnn Thanks @monalyisha for such an excellent match! You are a rockstar at matching up lists ✨🎉😍😘 (edited) 3y

MeganAnn @BarbaraJean right?! Me too! 3y
monalyisha You‘re so welcome! 🥰 3y
MeganAnn @Cinfhen I‘m very excited for that one! I had stacked it on litsy from someone‘s post (can‘t remember whose) a long time ago and then forgot about it. I‘m so glad @JackOBotts list has brought it back to my attention! 3y
monalyisha I actually didn't much like We Ride Upon Sticks. But it showed up on a lot of lists! I'm weirdly (maliciously? I hope not! 😅) looking forward to reading your review & seeing what camp you fall into. 3y
monalyisha I bought the Matt Haig for my MIL this Christmas. I hope it's great for your & for her sake! ;) My favorite of his is The Humans (which you may know...was that on your #FreakyFriday list? It feels like so long ago now). 3y
MeganAnn @monalyisha @Cinfhen We Ride Upon Sticks is on my TBR because of a lot of great reviews on Litsy… now I‘m curious on which camp I‘ll fall into as well! 3y
MeganAnn @monalyisha I haven‘t read The Humans, but I may have had The Radleys on my #freakyfriday list? I can‘t remember anymore, but that‘s the one of his I loved and keeps me thinking I really should read more of his stuff. I also loved his middle Christmas series starting with The Boy Who Saved Christmas. 3y
monalyisha Oh, I‘ve been meaning to check out that MG series! Maybe this December? 🤷‍♀️ 3y
monalyisha I bet you‘ll like We Ride Upon Sticks. I was probably just in a funk. 🙈 Still! The intrigue! 3y
MeganAnn @monalyisha it‘s a perfect quick December read! I saw Netflix recently released a movie based on the first book as well which is actually A Boy Called Christmas (my bad🤷‍♀️). Book 2 is The Girl Who Saved Christmas so I meshed them together in my head. 😆🤦🏻‍♀️ 3y
monalyisha I knew exactly what you meant! 😉 3y
monalyisha Ahem. I just stumbled upon my review of We Ride Upon Sticks & apparently I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. 😅 I remember being annoyed about a few things. It‘s funny that that‘s the memory/mood that persisted when I clearly really enjoyed so many other aspects. I wrote a fairly detailed review. 😆 My memory is so embarrassing. 🙈 3y
MeganAnn @monalyisha I just went back and found your review and other posts… love it! It is weird how sometimes the only thing I remember about reading a particular book is my mood or whatever was going on in life completely unrelated to the actual book.🤷‍♀️ One of the many reasons I reread so many of them. 3y
monalyisha Definitely eager(er) to discuss now that my mind is refreshed. 😉 3y
JackOBotts @MeganAnn - Yay! 🥳 I loved seeing the overlap on our lists and am so excited to plan a bit today! It‘s going to be tricky to wait till January! 😂 I can‘t wait to see your thoughts on these ready! I hope they don‘t disappoint!!!! 3y

This book will easily be one of my top picks of the year!

But I‘m having such a hard time concentrating the last few days as my heart breaks and worries mount for the Afghan people, and all those who are at risk of persecution, death or the end of basic human rights (women and girls), and are not being evacuated.

I know a few Afghans who worked as interpreters in the 2000s, and I share their worry and concern and wish I could help more.

While I didn‘t visit a bookstore today, I showed my support by purchasing a book from Jenny Lawson‘s shop.

I‘m further in the red for #pennyperpage, but it‘s for a good cause! 😬

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This book is just the sweetest. I wouldn't begin to know how to classify it, but I do know it made me feel all warm and gooey. I never thought I'd cry over buttons and bellboy hats and records, but here we are.

sb3626 Okay you are making me want to push this book up on my TBR (edited) 4y
wanderinglynn @sb3626 Cerulean Sea was my fave read last year. Definitely move it up! 👍🏻 4y
SkeletonKey I‘m currently finishing it up and ugh, I will be so sad to leave them 😭 4y
GingerAntics I felt the same way about this book. I never thought I‘d cry at the end, but I sure did. I love this image too, this should be a sacred text. 💙💙💙 4y

Welp I can definitely see why so many people love this one. There was such a message of hope and acceptance that it felt very comforting to read. I'm glad the excuse of both my book clubs picking this title gave me the impetus to finally dive in and enjoy it.

I read some in February, but not as much as I wanted to, though. I've been helping the boyfriend's mom move and renovate the house so that's been taking up most of my non-work time.

This book is so magical and made me feel like I was in a pink cloud while reading it, if that makes sense lol. It has been a long time where I have read a book and loved every character.

I just really can‘t find all the words to explain how this book made me feel while reading it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Kdchase Well I have to read it with that kind of review! 4y

This is my reading material for the next 4 weeks of training while working home. I‘m already one week into training. The subject matter is so riveting 🙄🤣.

Hopefully it won‘t take the fun out of reading my other books 😝.

Texreader Whew!!! What topic are you training in? 4y
That-Bookish-Hiker @Texreader I work in bankruptcy at the IRS so this goes further into bankruptcy law at the local and federal level. I‘ve been in the position for a year now. The first part of training that I went to last year binder was bigger than this 😳. (edited) 4y
