November; severely late, and extremely hopeful.
The Seven Deaths Of Evelyn Hardcastle, at its bones, is a great concept, but I think Turton was a bit ambitious in the execution. There‘s a LOT going on, a lot of secrets and at least three central mysteries, and most of the time the narrator is just as confused and clueless as the reader. I'm back to work tomorrow, so I'm catching up on my holiday reading reviews with this bonkers, over complicated but enjoyable story. If Agatha Christie and H G Wells had thought of writing a crime story together, this would have been the result. Perfect for a holiday read, but I'm not sure it lived up to my expectations.
The writing was filled with perfect metaphors. The characters were uniquely developed, and the plot was beyond intricate. The Agatha Christie-esque twists got a bit too slippery and went on a bit too long for me. But, the overarching themes, purposeful pacing, and rich writing were exquisite. I can't quite believe the author took on this great challenge for his debut novel. Nailed it.
Tackle the TBR 🤓📚

Extremely complicated and not as satisfying as I hoped it would be, but still interesting writing. It‘s still a pick, I was just hoping to love it rather than like it. I listened to the audiobook. Because of the twisty plot, I wonder if I would have enjoyed this book more in visual form.
A great mystery but sooo many characters can have you getting lost trying to remember who is who.
I think I liked this 😂 but it took me forever to read and I‘m still slightly confused. Great concept, excellent writing, but a bit too long and sometimes convoluted. I think it‘s just me and the timing not being right 🤪🤷♀️ #readyourkindle

Apparently they added the 1/2 to the US version of Evelyn Hardcastle because it was too similar to Evelyn Hugo!

New bestie!!! 😁😁💕
My creative idol Stuart Turton was such an entertaining speaker - irreverent, smart, cynical, funny - and I even managed to say a few words to him.
US Littens might be pleased to know he's doing a US tour soon too 😊

Low pick. Interesting premise but with these types of books I always find the ending a bit blah. And guests and staff drop like flies!
The narrator relives the same day eight times, each time from the perspective of a different occupant of an English estate. Each time he dies or falls asleep he moves to the next ‘host‘. Before 11pm on the 8th day, or the death of the final host, he must know who killed Evelyn Hardcastle.
I feel like I‘m the last person to read this book, so I won‘t say much about it. It‘s trippy, & I had a hard time putting it down, except for when I needed to think through all the characters. May be one I reread in the future because I know I missed details.
This is one of the coolest mysteries I have ever read. Aiden Bishop has one job, find out who murdered Evelyn Hardcastle. But solving this puzzle will not be easy. He has eight host that he must journey through and use their personalities to his advantage. And he only has one name on his mind, Anna. Who is Anna? Who is Aiden? And who killed Evelyn Hardcastle? Only time will tell.

**my brother got me a kindle so I‘ve been blowing through some books without reviewing, apologies up top for the inundation of reviews by me and terrible pics**
This was a reread- I ADORE this book. It‘s creepy and confusing and it was a perfect read during the Halloween season. Highly suggest picking it up if you haven‘t 5⭐️
I enjoyed this story which was not much like anything I had read before. Always fun to have a fresh idea to consider for a bit. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Day 3 of #scarathlon‘s photo challenge - Death/Dead
I‘m sharing another ebook that‘s been on my Kindle since 2021. This one sounds interesting. I still want to read it.
#HHC
My pick for #scarathalonphotochallenge prompt Death. Evelyn Bishop is murdered at 11. Aiden wakes up on the same day in the body of a different guest @ Blackheath, and must solve the mystery. Cool premise, non? This is one of those books that I had a good time while reading it, but I'm not sure if I actually *liked* it or not.

May I tell that the italian cover is so damn good?
Plus, I think I matched the bookmark pretty well
Terrible on audio. The book is too complicated to listen if you‘re doing anything else. I knew what was happening only because I had read it before. Great as a read. Terrible on audio.
This was an excellent book. Great mystery and I loved the concept completely. It makes you think right to the end. It really is Agatha Christie meets Groundhog Day. It was brilliant. I don‘t know what else to say except read it! Everything else will spoil it. I was disappointed to see that the Netflix series adaptation has been cancelled. I would have watched that, but maybe I‘ll just have to reread this one now that I know the end.
Didn‘t turn out to be my cup of tea
It was hard to follow the story

This is the first book I thought of and I couldn't get it out of my mind. Not sure it is fair. However, it made me think about what is fair.
This book had so much going on it was hard to keep up for the first 1/3 of it. Once some of the pieces start to click it‘s easy to binge the rest of the book. It was a decent twist at the end as well 📖
This book is in between a pick and a so-so to me. The middle of the book is the most interesting and page turning section. The ending was just okay to me. It felt like a little bit of a let down. That being said, the writing is spectacular. I can only imagine how hard it was to write a book like this. So, I would still recommend it!

~A Wrinkle in Time
This is a soft pick for me. I enjoyed it overall, but the many twists and turns became a little tedious to follow. I did like how the author describes being in other people's heads/bodies, although I'm not sure if the main character's reactions always make sense given the backstory/explanation we get at the end of the novel.
I have no idea what I expected from this but it's very unusual. There's a mystery but also fantasy elements. Not like vampires or anything but the detective inhabits different hosts that must work together to solve a crime.
A friend handed this to me but I cheated and actually listened to the audio to speed me along.

An absolutely brilliant mystery novel that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Turton's intricate and twisted plot is expertly crafted and will keep you guessing until the very end. The concept of a repeating day seen through the eyes of different characters adds an extra layer of complexity and intrigue to the story, and the characters are vividly drawn and flawed, making them all the more fascinating.
This took me a little bit to get into.. but once I did, I loved it! It's a little twisty.
very good, but a little confusing. would have been better if i didn‘t take breaks in between, but overall interesting story. never read anything like it, would recommend if interested in murder mysteries-i never knew where the story was taking me!
I picked this as a #DiscussionBook because I didn‘t like it and it seems everyone else in the world did. I felt I wasn‘t smart enough to follow. I kept trying to figure out the half death. Maybe it was in there but I heard the author say he added the half to differentiate the book from The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. #MayMontage
I just got this item off of loan on Libby, good timing! The premise is interesting, a murder mystery where Aiden must figure out who killed Evelyn before he can escape the scene, he has a week. The twist is that he wakes up each morning as a different character and some are more helpful than others. We'll see if it holds my attention after These Violent Delights, which was so beautifully written... sigh. Will report back!
Were you aware that Alexa will read you your Kindle books? No need for that expensive Audible subscription anymore.
Wowza. @Clare-Dragonfly you weren‘t joking on not guessing what was going to happen in this book. It was all over but in a good way😅😅 I feel like this was an excellent starter mystery novel if you haven‘t dabbled too much in that genre. I did take notes to help keep everything in line, not that it helped me guess the ending😆 I really really enjoyed this read and highly recommend it if it‘s on your TBR😊
An interesting concept and liked the twist at the end.
So I‘m a little over halfway with this read and I have some suspicions of who may be behind all the stuff going on in this book… (there‘s a lot😅) but I can‘t help but think I‘m reading Harry Potter right now🤣🤣
Decided to take notes on my next book club book to see if I can solve the mystery before the end of the book! Featuring my favorite potato #finankitten, he makes a superb writing desk🤣 I‘m not much of a mystery genre reader but this one is intriguing to say the least!
Such a twisty turny thorny plot! #TemptingTitles #WithDeath @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
I had a couple of false starts reading, but finally made it to the end. The complexity of the story and the large cast of characters is difficult to follow. If only I had discovered the cast of characters and map in the front of the book before finishing!! Aiden Bishop has 8 days and 8 bodies/POVs to solve a murder. If not, he will have to do it all over again and again. How many times has he tried? Will he ever escape? 4⭐️s for a twisty tale.
