I was planning to finish the entire book, but after I put it down, I couldn't get back into it. From the very start, Ever annoyed me so much. It was actually infuriating. Maybe it was the way she treated her parents? But either way, the way it's the main character meeting their love interest and making a funny or stupid impression when they first meet - it's not for me.

Cute but I wanted more romance and passion

Entertaining, but pretty superficial when it came to character development. A young American Asian woman travels to Taipei to attend a camp after graduating from high school. She breaks out of her rigid, sheltered childhood and challenges herself to disregard the rules she was raised with. People fall in and out of love in a heartbeat and the relationship felt as ephemeral as the plot. It won't stick with me, but it was a fun quick read.

I really enjoyed this book. She was a new author for me, and I wasn't disappointed. I love her writing style. I felt that in the midpoint, it got a little bit slow, but the story kept me engaged. I wanted to know what would happen in the end. I cried on and off, from Ch 34 till the end.
Loved the MC development and the ending!

Currently reading. On chapter 8 & LOVING it. She's a new author for me, but I'm not disappointed at all. Love the way she writes. ❤ The author is really nice & usually comments back & likes her readers' comments. I always love that about authors. I don't appreciate when they are not nice to their readers. They would be nothing without them!

Finished this last night. It was pretty good. I loved the romance and the plot

I loved everything about this book! The characters, the plot just everything. It‘s a coming of age story and it kept me engaged.

Just started this

Ever is a teen who deals with pressure from her parents. After failing to attend Med School, she is sent to Taipei to attend a program where she is to learn Mandarin. She meets Rick Woo, the prodigy from Yale that she has always been compared to while breaking all the rules her parents has for her. If you like books about coming of age, then you will like this. A theme in this book is freedom as Ever breaks free from her parents‘ expectations.

This books was nothing spectacular, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The romance kept me on my toes and I really enjoyed all of the different family dynamics. It‘s a really unique book.

I really liked this book. It read like a k-dramas. A lot of dramas and two boys to choose from. The sweet and gentle one and a bad boy.

We follow Ever who has a uge love and passion for dancing. Her parents wants her to go to medical school. Without telling her, they send her in Taipei for a summer program to learn mandarin. There she meets new friends to help her break the rules her parents has given her, her entire life.

I think I'd have enjoyed this a little more if there were an actual boat. It wasn't terrible, and I probably would have liked it quite a lot if I were 25ish years younger than I am. It was just so much teen drama, and YA isn't my favorite genre. One positive is that it was quite different from anything else I've read. Four books down for #bookspin.

I was really looking forward to reading this one since it is an Asian American Own Voices novel, but unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations.

The whole beginning and middle section felt like an early 2000‘s teen book. There was a lot of unnecessary drama and it felt so unrealistic.

If you‘re expecting the literary Suite Life on Deck, this isn‘t it. In fact, Loveboat Taipei is set on land, no Seven Seas🙄But I will say this is a mashup of Crazy Rich Asians and High School Musical, kind of😉 PLENTY of teenage drama and loads of eye rolls but fun enough that I listened to all 11 hours. And I got a good feel for #Taiwan #ReadingAsia21

• MMD 2020 Summer Reading

Ever is a Chinese-American teen who has plans of becoming a dancer. Her parents have loftier goals for her. So, they send her to a 8 week “educational camp” in Taipei for the purpose of learning culture and language. The camp is not nearly as strict as they were told. Everyone is very laissez-faire about the rules and pretty much do whatever they want. The girls are all boy crazy — the boys are there to score a hot girl.

Never thought I would get into this book at all let alone be up all night turning the pages! So many topics are touched upon in this book that it can be a bit hard to keep up with it but it's also damn near impossible to put down!

Coming of age, dealing with family pressure to succeed, dreams vs reality, rich vs poor, bullying, abuse, rebellion, depression, etc., etc., etc.

I'd recommend 👍

It's Ever's last summer to dance before following her parents' dreams for her to go to college for medicine, but they "surprise" her by sending her for an 8-week program in Taipei with others just like her to learn about her heritage and culture - it's so known for marriages that come out of it that it's referred to as the Loveboat by the students there. ⤵️

Oh gosh, this book was such a joy that when it did a thing near the end I actually paused to try and get it to oromise me it wasn't going to be too mean to the characters. (Book did not respond.)
There are some love criss crosses, but it felt realistic to the setting and age group (summer camp kinda) and resolved well but not overly neatly.

A great debut from Wen! I picked this book for our YA for Adults book club at the bookstore based solely on the title, because I am a child of the 80's (and it set sail the year I was born, 1977). Alas, Loveboat, Taipei is not set on a boat, but the romance was still there. However, all is not cutesy and fluffy, Ever and her friends deal with some pretty heavy subjects while being away from their parents, in Ever's case, for the first time.

The descriptions of the architecture made me want to visit Taiwan. I appreciated that the MC was trying to find her own way in life. Her naivety was difficult for me to swallow and I was irritated that she let some of the other characters victimize her. Romance is really not my genre though, so you should keep that in mind when reading this review. I read this book for YA book club and overall, it kept me interested.

My current #audiobook for our YA for adults book club.

They want her to go to med school, but they told her to take French instead of Latin? I know it‘s a dead language but I feel like it‘s still favored to those who plan on going into the medical field.

This was a total lark. I was doing the delivery at the library, and this came in for a patron... so I requested it for myself. I found it to be a refreshing YA coming of age and romance story that used some time tested tropes but in a new way. It was a lot of fun to read... and loved the setting as well!

Book discussed last Wednesday at BookMarkPR. A YA contemporary story with romance. Ever was raised in a very traditional home.She is sent to a summer camp and there she will discover her identity as a person coming from 2 cultures and there will be changes. It is a cute, ok story but after interview with author, definitely my perspective changed.We even introduced ourselves per her request. There will be a sequel. Everyone loved the book 3.4/3.5⭐️

Loved this one! Reminded me a lot of American Panda by Gloria Chao, but seemed to handle more about adulting and being your own person with sacrificing tradition or heritage.

This is supposed to be my reading chair, but it has been overtaken by my cats...

Verging on a pick if you like YA/romance - it was steamier than I expected it to be. Rick Woo...I hope dudes like you really exist. 😭🤷🏻‍♀️

To start this book is not in my genre wheelhouse. Having said that. I finished the book, and rather quickly. I do have to say the end left me hanging a bit.

This is a pick for me, but I think my expectations were waaaay too high and that is how I ended up disappointed. Disclaimer, I was actually on Loveboat in the heyday of the late 90s/early 2000s. This felt like the author was trying to cover too much and I would have loved to see her cover less topics, but in a bit more depth. Also, I didn‘t enjoy that she didn‘t really show that there were students in the trip who weren‘t so....selfish?

I really really liked this book. It was one of my most anticipated and didn't disappoint. I can definitely see why it was compared to To All the Boys I've Loved Before and Crazy Rich Asians.
I liked the conflict, the different rep, the discussions about class, wealth, racism and immigration.

This was such a good book! It had a YA Crazy Rich Asians vibe. I loved Ever's story and her summer of romance and rebellion, and her conflicting desires to please her parents and be true to herself. So so good. Can't wait for more.

This was such a juicy read!! Perfect for Jenny Han and Sarah Dessen fans, this had such a perfect amount of drama and development. I LOVED it!
