This one is dark, but the word “immersive” is what really comes to mind more than anything. This one pulls you into a whole other world, differently than the way other novels do. I finished this a few weeks ago and am still thinking about it.

This was an engrossing Noir-Mystery/Thriller story about a girl whom seemingly commits suicide, but her being the daughter of an elusive horror director makes our main character-a writer, dive into her life and world. This makes you question all the details throughout and I will definitely have to reread this at some point to see what details I can catch. I thought this was excellent and I definitely recommend the audiobook. 5⭐️
Visiting a new town? Gotta check out the bookstore! Seward, AK is such a small community, this one doubles as a yarn shop 😅
That was a crazy ride that got bogged down at the end. A journalist fixated on an avante garde film director goes in search for evidence to support his belief that said director is evil. Is the occult involved? Is our perception of reality actually real? At the end, I‘m not sure I had any concrete answers, but maybe that was the point? #50in50
I got this in my #jolabokaflodswap a few weeks ago and instantly started to read it! While a bit slow in places for my taste, I did really enjoy the mystery and the characters. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
There were many tough calls but ultimately the tagged book won out.

Thank you so much @mcipher for the amazing #jolaboksflodswap!!! I‘m SO EXCITED to read this book I will be starting it immediately. And of course, thank you to @MaleficentBookDragon for organizing this swap! I‘ve loved it every year!
This one might take me awhile 🎧

1. Normally one in each format, so one kindle, one audio and one paper but I don‘t always stick to just three I‘m a bit chaotic
2. Night film from way back in January is a clear standout! I‘ve listened to some pretty awful audiobooks just cause they were free on audible plus, which was cost effective at least but the books weren‘t good lol
I've made a deal with myself that I am going to finish my in-progress books before the year is out. How many do I have unfinished? I lost track. There's...a lot of them 😳
Am I going to stop starting new books? Since I started a new one today I'm gonna go with NO.
I'm going to give it a good try though! Been halfway through this one for a bit so it gets priority tonight.

An investigative reporter is in search of the truth about a filmmakers (Cordova) life and Cordova's daughters death and life. The story is so well written that I started to believe that the filmmaker and his films were real! Each time I thought I knew where the story was headed it turned a different way. perfect ending - great read from start to finish.

There's something to be said for a book that goes all out to really immerse you in the experience 😍😍
I've started this before on audio and ebook but have never made it to the halfway point. I think I was missing out. Even these first couple chapters are pulling me in more than before. Here's hoping third time's the charm! I REALLY want to finish this book!

This was a great mystery with a lot of suspense, and some creepiness.

7-12-22: My 67th finished book of 2022! Scott McGrath, an investigative journalist disgraced by a famous director, Stanislas Cordova, is haunted by the death of the director‘s daughter, Ashley. Deemed a suicide, Scott and his unlikely team, Nora and Hopper, must find out how she died and why. It took me longer than usual but I really enjoyed following these characters to the brink of madness and back again. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🤷🏼♀️#️⃣6️⃣7️⃣
A beautiful young woman has been found dead, her father a famous film director who hasn‘t been seen in over 30 years, a detective determined to find out the mystery behind it all…no matter the cost. Written in online articles, police files, & notes, this book will take you on a ride. I loved every minute of the story & it kept me guessing until the end what had actually happened to the beautiful young girl whose demise began the story.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I‘m all ready for book club‘s discussion in two weeks. I was very intrigued by this plot…I don‘t want to spoil the ending for anyone but will say that the ending left me wanting more but was also exactly what I should have expected.
Sunday funday outside loving this warm weather, reading this engaging #suspense! And maybe partaking in a drink 😉
What am I reading? Well isn't that the question of the day 🤔
I'm working on Night Film and enjoying it but I'm not sure I'm in the mood right now. Might pop in the audiobook for The Drowning Kind later. I need to reorganize my bookshelves at some point this weekend so I might even find something there that grabs me.
It's an indecisive reading weekend I think!!
#weekendreading @Andrew65
I can‘t remember the last time I loved a book this much. Very odd and probably not for everyone, with its lack of answers particularly at the end, but this was everything I‘ve ever wanted horror to be. Clever but not pretentious, entertaining, eerie, desperately mysterious. I‘ll be rereading this a lot of times I think.
Wow. This book has a hold on me like I haven‘t experienced for awhile. This is more than a novel. It feels like a transcendent cinematic experience - just like Cordova‘s films in the story. I was completely mesmerized reading this and as invested in the mystery as the ragtag investigative team. I find myself wondering about Hopper, McGrath, and Nora as if they are real friends I met in another life. That is the power of Pessl‘s storytelling. 5⭐️
#FestivePhotoChallenge Day 4: Book & Chill. What better way to start the new year than by relaxing with the book. As a fun coincidence, my PJs match the red and black coat featured prominently in Night Film. #wintergames2021 #mistletoemaniacs #selfiescavengerhunt #outfitmatchesbook

“Will you step back and cover your eyes? Or will you have the strength to walk to the precipice and look out?”
Dark. Intense. Gripping. I could go on. Although there were times it felt extremely drawn out. I highly recommend. Beautifully done multimedia with a mysterious mind bending investigation for the truth behind a famous film directors daughter.

Doing my best to get through this chunkster. Interesting story with lots of film and pop culture references. The multi media is done very well.
I wanted to like this book more, but the casual racism and transphobia were hard to get past. I found the story to be dragging quite a bit (and almost abandoned this read) but the story was solid by the end enough I suppose. I had high expectations based on other reviews, but ultimately, I found this book largely tedious.
The remnants of my snack dinner and three favorite creepy books I ordered to replace lost/loaned copies. I had a minor surgery today so will be snuggled up in bed reading my heart out all weekend 🥰
The quote speaks itself.
#NightFilm is a mistery thriller that really intrigued the reader.
The border between reality and superstition is so thin that I had to really think about the entire story to recognize what was true or not.
It's a deeply trip through madness at a certain point.
❤❤❤❤
1. I can‘t choose! It depends on my mood.
2. Imaginary Friend 🤮🤮 I think the one before that tho was Night Film and I liked it.

One of the very best books I have come across! I love the storyline and the characters! I felt as if I was in a David Lynch film. I could not put this book down!
The super cool multimedia excepts should be influencing how I picture the characters, but every time they mention *Ashley‘s red coat* (in all italics), my mind oscillates between Carmen Sandiego stealing a priceless artifact I‘ve never heard of, and Jane Fonda getting arrested for protesting. 😆

Not at all bad, but seven-hundred pages of “not bad” leaves...something to be desired.
Still, a lot of good takeaways and insights, and it does get genuinely riveting for some time toward the end. It‘s exceptional the way Pessl makes it feel like the narrator is in a film of the director he‘s investigating‘s. I love cinema too, so this novel was practically a sure thing for me.
Just finished my last day of work before holidays...time for my fav seltzer (with a splash of spiced rum) and this gem of a book that just came in from the library!!!
