“ Soup from a stone. Fancy that.“
I thought that this story displayed some humor and showed how there is kindness in the world through landing a helpful hand.

The illustrator uses great detail when creating the characters and background to make the characters more realistic and stand out. You can see the facial expressions. In this story, it talks about how a hungry traveler stops at a woman's home and asks for food. Then he tricks the lady into helping him cook.
4/5⭐ A fun folktale whose excellent illustrations really bring it to life.
TFW you realize two of the childhood books you've kept over the years are retellings of the same story. 😂
my favorite part was the very first time he tricked her by asking for onions. At that point I wasn't sure quite yet what he was doing and I was still excited to see what he would do with the stone
I really liked this book. it was really interesting to see how the story line changed. it was very comical and clever to watch how the boy tricks the woman
A poem is a stone
you pick up from a
great cliff or a sidewalk
and keep on your shelf;
Or that one finds to
cast into the depths of the self.
A poem is a stone
that is tossed in a child's game,
or planted in the memory of a man's life.

I love this story!! Someone recently used it as a S in class which inspired me to re-read it. This story has been told in many different ways. It is considered to be TL/Folktale. I would use this book as a DR or S. So many cool ways this story can be used in the classroom. Using it as a S would be fun for all the kids and they would really enjoy it. I have read this story by Marcia Brown and Ann McGovern. I would include it in my classroom library
She said she wanted soup. "It's starting to get cooler out, could you get some creamy soup when you go to get groceries?" Creamy soup, coming right up! I didn't know which to get, so I figured this strategy couldn't go wrong. So, did I do a good job? Think @BookBabe will be happy? (I do the same thing with books. "Jay, can you get me a light Summer read when you're at the bookstore?" Jay brings back around a dozen books. Heh heh heh ????)
