It's such a page turner I'll probably keep reading but... it's a cruel book.

A retelling of Macbeth, but with queer kids at boarding school in Virginia. Really enjoyed the hauntings. Small quibble: could no one consult a native Spanish speaker to check the dialogue? Not a huge deal but a little 😬
just got AS I DESCENDED in the mail today! been on my To Read list for a while and treated myself as an early birthday gift to me. back on track with my reads!
Almost forgot it was May today!
Okay stats for April. Thought I‘d include the number of countries this time as there seemed to be more than usual.
The tagged book was a fun Macbeth retelling with lesbian teens at a boarding school.

4️⃣ Day: ON YOUR SHELF ALL YEAR
As I descended by Robin Talley. I still haven‘t read it, I just never manage to read more than 5 pages. Sorry.
Also I still don‘t have Internet in my flat, and at this point I just want to throttle someone. My bike 🏍 is being repaired so I have to walk everywhere now, in this cold 😭❄️.

4.5⭐️
What I liked
The plot
The plot twists
Interesting characters
I did care for most of the characters but it took a while
The writing, setting, & diversity
What I didn‘t like
Sometimes the characters annoyed me; particularly Mateo, Lily, and Delilah
The ending didn‘t feel satisfying; I liked a certain character‘s development but there was a character that still frustrated me in the epilogue
Overall I really enjoyed this! #bookreview
This book got me out of my book slump! If you love Shakespeare, tragedy, ghosts, and revenge, you‘ll love this novel.
Perfect summary by the author in the acknowledgements: "I'll write a retelling of Macbeth, with ghosts. And gay people." It was super fun. Full of magic.
I cannot resist a pretty book... possibly the most difficult part of my job is being surrounded by so many books and not having time to read them all
A sudden thunderstorm seems like the perfect time to start a Macbeth retelling
Up next on my #TBR... because I can't stop reading amazing books about queer girls. 🏳️🌈
Feels like cross between Labyrinth Lost, The Raven Cycle, and Life is Strange made into a Macbeth retellings with lesbians and I didn't know I needed it.
I loved this creepy weird book with ghost and scary lakes, and churches. The characters were kind of fantastic. I mean who thinks to reimagine Macbeth with lesbians? Anyways, I had few complaints mainly with the fact the lesbians wouldn't come out but beggars can't be choosers and live isn't ever easy. The writing was fantastic and the chapter heading imaginative. I need more Shakespeare remakes. Recommendations?
Semi most recent buy so it's like right on top of the stack. I've done an amazing job flying through these books this month and I really can't wait to do into this one!
So... I underestimated how disturbed I would be by children planning to harm other children. Think I gotta put this one down for now. I'll come back to it when I'm mentally prepared and fortified.
#BookMail! Now I don't know which Shakespeare retelling to read first.
Robin Talley does a really great job of reworking 'MacBeth' in our modern world. She didn't just copy+paste the story, she reinterpreted it to work with modern young adults and the hierarchy that exists in high school. That doesn't mean she had to hold back on the horrific aspects of the Scottish play.
MacBeth is my favorite of Shakespeare's tragedies. I would be curious how someone unfamiliar with the play, would feel about this book.
This week's Breakfast at Barnes & Noble comes with a side of grading that must be completed by 4:30...
Early Monday morning reading! Hope to finish this book tonight, haven't done much reading in the past week due to a Gilmore Girls binge, hopefully getting back on track this week!
Halloween reading paired with pumpkin beer! #allhallowsread #happyhalloween #librarybook
Started this just in time for Halloween.....#ya #retelling #Macbeth #librarybook
Just finished this creepy, twisty queered up YA retelling of Macbeth. Can't say I would have seen the Macbeth without being told, but I may not have sufficient familiarity with Macbeth to see it.
First day of the #photoadaychallenge for #AllHallowsRead --my tbr pile.
Not really that spooky, probably, though...

I love a good Shakespeare retelling, and I really appreciated the way this retelling of Macbeth was handled. It was definitely different. At times a bit too different. I loved the diversity in this book. My one complaint is that atmospheric nature of this ghostly tale sometimes went a bit heavy handed, even at the expense of the plot.
Getting to brunch early so you can have quality reading time with your coffee. #multitasking

Great concept, great start, but I am of the opinion that when you base a story on Shakespeare you have to mess with it enough to surprise readers. So much of this was spectacularly spooky and a great adaptation but the drag of tragedy worked against the early promise and momentum. Would have liked to see a really unexpected ending that still felt earned.
This was the perfect book to pick up and get me in the mood for autumnal reading. I enjoyed all the creepy twists and turns as the story unfolded. This was a fantastic retelling of Macbeth with a f/f lead. A must read, in my opinion.
5/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
New shirt is here. This is how I roll. (Definitely how I roll when Book Riot Store is having a sale.)
Saturday plans.
No photo right now as I've already taken the cover off (I always do when reading hardbacks) *and* I lack a conveniently-placed kitty for visual interest, but this is what I'm about to start in on.
If I keep using Litsy regularly, I'll have to figure out a more convenient way of taking pics with my phone (its case has a cover, which I usually appreciate, but the cover has to be held out of the camera's way). Or maybe I'll get used to it.
AAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!! It's here, it's here! My dear friend's THIRD amazing book has been published and it's BEAUTIFUL. Can't wait to dive in!

A great rebelling of Macbeth. It was exciting and a tad scary at times. Middle was hit or miss but the diverse characters make it worth it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
