Collection of short stories shown by the title figure's tattoos. Since this framing narrative is only referred to in a prologue, epilogue and the end of the first story, it seemed a bit pointless to me. But the stories were enjoyable, if a bit dated in some respects, not just socially but also in the expected technology.

It was a warm afternoon in early September when I first met the Illustrated Man.

Striking. Graphic. Imaginative. Horrific. These match every one of these what if short stories. They‘re about space exploration in the future space, some testing new planets and others about Martian invasion. This what if is if blacks were sent off parent to colonize the moon and left while whites destroyed themselves in war. How would black react to white coming to them? Feels right on with today. Some give horrors of where we‘re going

I have been reading this book off and on for probably almost 15 years (I definitely prefer novels to short stories). That being said, Bradbury's stories are interesting and offer a lot of interesting social commentary that is still applicable today, even though the book was originally published in 1951. Many of the stories have somewhat depressing endings, but the last full story was more upbeat, which was nice.

“Too much of anything isn‘t good for anyone.“

This short story collection has so many great science fiction and fantasy stories! I‘ve been telling people all about them. Some are strongly reminiscent of The Twilight Zone. I think everyone should read my favorite one, “The Exiles,” this year! It is about famous authors and their characters who were banned from planet earth 100 years earlier. Go read it and tell me what you think! #authoramonth

This is a collection of 18 short stories within a story. The narrator meets the Illustrated Man, a wanderer with marvellous, moving images tattooed across his body. Each of the images is said to be the future and they‘re the 18 sc-fi stories within. As with many short story collection, some stories are more interesting and memorable than others. The Veldt, The Exiles, Marionettes Inc, and The Rocket stand out for me.

I started out really loving this collection of short stories but as it went on they all ran together. The stories all felt too much the same.

Reading this again for book club! According to my book list I read it when I was 14. Just as good as I remember! Bradbury is timeless.
Sitting outside having coffee with YumYum, my porch stray, on a Saturday morning with Ray Bradbury is the best thing ever.

This book is a compilation of fourteen futuristic short stories told through the tattoos inked into the Illustrated Man's flesh. The book begins when the Illustrated Man encounters a man on the road and they begin to talk. I had several I really liked but my favorite ones were "The Veldt" and "Zero Hour." It is well worth a read especially if you like sci-fi short stories. ?????
We‘re all fools,” said Clemens, “all the time. It‘s just we‘re a different kind each day. We think, I‘m not a fool today. I‘ve learned my lesson. I was a fool yesterday but not this morning. Then tomorrow we find out that, yes, we were a fool today too. I think the only way we can grow and get on in this world is to accept the fact we‘re not perfect and live accordingly.

Not the introduction to Bradbury I was hoping for. A few stories like The Veldt and The Long Rain were okay, but I actively disliked most of the collection. It seemed like many were built around a core message, which distracted me from the more imaginative elements. I did wonder if this was a case where things that seem like tropes now were created by authors like Bradbury, but even if that is true, it doesn't make the stories easier to enjoy.

Ughhh this is at the top of my wanted list! Its $70 though!
Listy didnt have it listed but its stories by Ray Bradbury accompanied by pictures of top tattooers and collectors! I will be stalking all sites for a cheaper copy! 🙃

This book, overall, was one of the most amazing books I have read. The book itself is composed of separate stories, all based on different settings, however, the very one thing that does not change throughout the entire book is the conflict between humans and technologies, which is what people have always been thinking about.

Let me tell you... don't you look at those illustrations too long, because they'll come alive and they'll tell you stories.

Ray Bradbury is masterful. I love Fahrenheit 451 and I'm excited to be exploring his other works. Bradbury's insights and social commentary through story is incredible. Considering this book in particular, there were some stories I really liked and others that for me were just ok. On the whole it's a great collection and I'm looking forward to reading more of his writing.

“You could here the voices murmuring, small and muted, from the crowds that inhabited his body.”
Eighteen startling visions of humankind‘s destiny, unfolding across a canvas of decorated skin.
Another great collection from Ray Bradbury. Highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Quite different to other books I‘ve read, full of short science fiction stories which really kept my attention with the unique stories. Good choice for my second book of 2019.

These stories are absolutely chilling but so beautifully written as to be charming. Bradbury crafted a perfect short story collection.

Summer is coming to a close, so you know what that means! It is Ray Bradbury season.

"Bradbury presents himself as a nameless narrator who meets the Illustrated Man--a wanderer whose entire body is a living canvas of exotic tattoos. What's even more remarkable, and increasingly disturbing, is that the illustrations are themselves magically alive, and each proceeds to unfold its own story"
This retro cover ? is awesome, and another Bradbury book added to my TBR??

Has anyone read this book? It sounds interesting. I heard about it on Criminal Minds.

I'm playing catch up so I'm combining prompts and picking a quote about THE summer beverage from Ray Bradbury. 🍋
Going with a lemonade-tagged image online that looks more like ice water with lemon, but the background had more of that summer night vibe that I was looking for, so needs must. 😆

“Still the Illustrated Man‘s pictures glowed like charcoals in the half light, like scattered rubies and emeralds...”

My first read of 2018 is actually a reread. I‘m getting my next tattoo soon and it‘s going to be inspired by this book!

My partner and I decided to take turns reading aloud to each other from The Illustrated Man. So fun!

1) This is currently all I have up. They'll come down soon to be packed.
2) Read Harder, Reading Women, and Popsugar challenges. And the #poetrychallenge here on Litsy.
3) Glasses
4) Oceans and starry night skies
5) I have a lot of books planned for 2018 so picking one I'm most excited for is hard. I'm excited to finally read the tagged book.

Found this book title in another story a few months ago #Faithful #AliceHoffman loved the other so much I had to find the inspiration. Only 50 pages in and already can't get enough. #dystopiandoneright.
