My history-loving son has walking pneumonia, so I suggested we spend some time watching this book-adjacent series together while he waits for the antibiotics to do their work. He said, "Mom, that looks like the kind of show a middle-aged woman would watch."

I argued that, while I am, in fact, a middle-aged woman, that doesn't mean teenaged history buffs wouldn't like the show, too.

And then I left him to his Discord and his D&D YouTube videos.

Soubhiville 😆 kids. Hope he feels better soon. 6d
Bookwormjillk Ugh, my daughter has the same. Crazy illnesses going around this year. 6d
ImperfectCJ @Bookwormjillk Indeed! It's our first time dealing with this particular ailment, and I'm hoping his dad and I don't catch it. And that the pertussis test the doctor's office is running comes back negative. We've dealt with that before, and I did not like it at all. We're up to date on our boosters, so fingers crossed 🤞 I hope your daughter feels better quickly! 6d

I did not enjoy this one as much as the first two, but it did advance the storyline. Hopefully it‘s a one off since so many love this series.

#ThoughtfulThursday @Eggs Again, apologies for the delay.
1. I like unreliable narrators, as long as they are believable and ring true. Hate it when they make no sense.
2. I don't collect bookish items (other than books), but I do have a few mugs from famous bookstores I have visited.
3. I loved the Poldark series.

Patio reading on this breezy morning with #nelson my reading buddy. I am enjoying this series so much. Graham has created such memorable, complex characters in a beautiful setting. I can see why Cornwall became a popular destination for Poldark fans.

AlaMich @Fr3NcHtOaSt I haven‘t seen the series, but maybe when I‘ve finished the books. Though I have a feeling I won‘t enjoy it nearly as much as I do the books. 4y

For some reason I‘ve always thought this is a “waaay to hyped thingy”, but it keeps on popping up when I research historical fiction. Is it worth a try, or should I just sweep it under the carpet and leave it there?

julesG I watched two seasons of the show. I have yet to try one of the books. No help, I know. 6y
Wife Yay!❤️ 6y
arubabookwoman I didn't think I would like it, but I read the first, loved it, and was hooked. I've read them all now, and found that they held up through all 12 volumes. You can try one and see. 6y

Zelma I can see why it might not be for everyone but it‘s totally my jam. Quiet, lovely writing, domestic fiction about managing households and relationships and family. I mean, there is action, but it‘s small, not a big swashbuckling adventure kind of book. I adore it. 6y
Andrew65 I listened to the first one over Christmas and really enjoyed it. I do plan to continue. 6y
Tove_Reads @andrew65 OK, good to know! I guess the 📺 series ads just made it look like “not for me”. 6y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads They seem to be pushing the sex angle, but not what I got from the first book. 6y
Tove_Reads @andrew65 I guess I‘ll have to check it out! Always up for more series... 🤓 I plan on starting the Starbridge series soon as well. Been meaning to read it for ages. 6y

I'm about done with this book! I started reading the Poldark novels about a year ago (after watching a snippet of the first episode of the show) since it piqued my interest. I took quite a while away after "Demelza" and watched the first two seasons. If you have not started this series, please check it out. I wasn't sure if I was going to even like the series, but I'm in love with it.

Egan. The whole first half of this book bored me witless. More than I ever needed to know about the judicial and political systems of 18th century England. The second half was better, but not good enough to convince me to go on with the series. 3 books in and I find myself consistently underwhelmed by Graham‘s writing.

The story of this book is very much one of light and shadows. The third of the Poldark books, I'm straight on to book four now, as I can't get my head out of 18th century Cornwall.

This series is becoming compulsive reading!

Mishu94 Heyyyy! I haven‘t read the series and I have just watched the show and I really was hoping you‘d tell me how Ross actually felt about demulza? Like throughout the show he was so torn between Elizabeth and her and I just need to know so bad! 4y
Libby1 @Mishu94 - hello! Yes, he does truly love Demelza. It is a love that grows. The series is a lot of things, but it is the story of a marriage. I adored it! I hope I‘ve given the right level of detail. Ask if you want to know more. 😊 4y
Mishu94 @Libby1 yesss but why does he sometimes feel so conflicted between the two? And thank you so much for answering! 🤗 4y

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟| Another fine book in the Poldark series. Graham knew how to write action and characters without seeming to be redundant or melodramatic. This series could easily be a soap opera, but it isn't. And he certainly knew how to write about place and time. I love getting lost in his Cornwall.

GinaAnderson But it IS a soap opera! Well, inasmuch as a PBS series can be. Have you watched it? 8y
SharonGoforth @GinaAnderson Yes, but I was referring to Graham's writing rather than the show. I suppose it is a soap - it just doesn't seem like it when I read the books. 8y

A tentative August TBR pile. Lots of Booker nominees, library books, the next two Poldarks because I want to read them before Season 2 starts, you get the drift. Not shown: Frankenstein, which is on my Nook and is the August selection for @TheSpinecrackersBookClub , and audiobooks. I tend not to plan too much, so this is subject to change. #augustofpages #bookphotochallenge

rabbitprincess Enjoy the Poldark books! I am really looking forward to Season 2 😍 8y
[DELETED] 3803335244 I read the Poldark series!!!! Loved it, there are so many books. The tv series nothing like the books, Graham writes the characters totally different. In the series on tv I love Poldark, in the books I disliked him so much!!! 8y

SharonGoforth @brendanmleonard Yes, they are! 👍 8y
SaraFair Yes! Poldark! Where should we start off of season one, do you know? 8y
SharonGoforth @SaraFair Season 1 covered the first two books in the series (Ross Poldark and Demelza), so I'm assuming that Season 2 will cover books 3 and 4 (Jeremy Poldark and Warleggan). But that's just my guess😊 8y
SaraFair Thanks @SharonGoforth ! I may not get it done in time for this season, but fun to do for the next! Have you read any of the other pbs series' books? 8y
SharonGoforth @SaraFair I've read some, although it is often after-the-fact (I liked the series so I had to read the book). Right now I've got the Grantchester books to read through, and I've just started some of the Inspector Morse books by Colin Dexter because I love Endeavor 😊 8y

Started reading it on my commute home. Graham clearly assumes you've read the previous books, and just drops you into the story a few months after Demelza ends, giving you a big development about a page in. So far, so good!!
