Blood Work: A Tale of Medicine and Murder in the Scientific Revolution
Blood Work: A Tale of Medicine and Murder in the Scientific Revolution | Holly Tucker
11 posts | 8 read | 24 to read
Excellent. . . . Tuckers chronicle of the world of 17th-century science in London and Paris is fascinating. The Economist In December 1667, maverick physician Jean Denis transfused calfs blood into one of Pariss most notorious madmen. Days later, the madman was dead and Denis was framed for murder. A riveting expos of the fierce debates, deadly politics, and cutthroat rivalries behind the first transfusion experiments, Blood Work takes us from dissection rooms in palaces to the streets of Paris, providing an unforgettable portrait of an era that wrestled with the same questions about morality and experimentation that haunt medical science today.

This book was very interesting to me because
1) I have had several transfusions over the years because of my ❤️ transplant; and
2) it would have helped with an essay I wrote back in 2013 for my MA in Eighteenth Century Studies!

Not a quote from the book, but saw this on Facebook and thought, yep, sounds about right for us bookaholics! (Except substitute husband for parents in my case!)

Sace Amen and amen! My husband always gets home before I do and I get busted every time. Doesn't stop me though! 8y
Cinfhen Oh this is SO TRUE❤️ 8y
BibliophileMomma Amen. My husband works nights so he's never awake when the mail or deliveries come. Lol. I usually have my books opened and shelved before he's even awake. 😉😉 8y

My 'B' & 'T' for #LitsyAtoZ @BookishMarginalia. (Just noticed if I read my 'L' as well I'll have a BLT sandwich! 😂)
The other two are just the books I'm reading on @SerialReader, they don't belong to any challenges!

Tucker's book is a fascinating look at the politics, ego, religious belief, and fear that often characterize scientific work. I wouldn't advise reading it while eating.
