I procrastinate mythological settings never sure I‘m in the right place for the story. I was where I belong here!. Aaslo was a great character and I cracked up at Mathias‘ continuing story. The supplemental characters were spot on. Peck and Mory have my heart, and I never knew I‘d have such fondness for a reaper!
#14books14weeks2023 Book 14!
@TheHeartlandBookFairy Thank you so much for giving me the incentive to read down my BOTMs!
Not a phrase I thought I would encounter in an epic fantasy...
Current #readathon read, but in reality I just wanna brag with my GIANT Halloween (all year) teamug!

📖: Fate of the Fallen, Kel Kade
The Final Gambit, Jennifer Lynn Barnes
✍️: Fiona Davis (the only author I have that starts with an F on either name, but the Magnolia Palace was excellent.)
📺: Friends, Firefly
🎤: Flyleaf
🎶: Faster ~ Within Temptation
Freak Like Me ~ Halestorm
Yes, I‘m using a second book in the same series I used earlier, but Fate of the Fallen, the book before Destiny of the Dead, is excellent. I‘m so very much ready for book 3.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this one. The story was clever and funny, and I loved the cast of characters. I've already placed book 2 on hold at the library.
I was intrigued by the premise of this one: What happens when the chosen one fails? It turns out his BFF tries to take up the cause and get the job done. I loved Aaslo the reluctant hero as he tries to amass the allies needed to save the world despite the prophecy proclaiming doom without the chosen one. It did end with a bit of a cliff hanger which wasn't too fun but I think this is still a series I'll continue with.

I finished both of my slow paced reads and feel very excited to move on to other things.

My goal this week is to get a ways into the tagged and hopefully read another on my Newbery list.
So much unexpectedness that it kept me turning the pages. None of the usual adventure tropes were present and it was glorious breath of fresh air. I laughed, I kind of cried, and I couldn‘t put it down once I dove in.

I LOVED that there is this sort of mythology reminiscent of the Greeks about it but she has her own spin on it. The magic and just wondering who is pulling what strings. It‘s so many of my favorite things in one book!
This is a hard book to review, as it was slow to grab my attention, far more interesting in the middle, and then just sort of fizzled at the end.
Interesting premise: what if the chosen one falls and the sidekick has to save the day? I enjoyed the humor and banter, but not so much the writing: the plot skips around in a jarring manner and I like my fantasy with more complete world-building.
Not sure I will continue with this series.
⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
I got Kel Kade's Fate of the Fallen last year, and while I love high fantasy, I kept putting it off because sometimes, it's work to absorb all of the world building and intricate details. Fortunately, Fate of the Fallen NEVER feels like work (I wish I'd picked it up earlier!). The novel begins with best friends Mathias and Aaslo. Mathias is outgoing and popular and loves his small town. Raised and taught by his grandmother Magdelay, ⬇️
I couldn't get into this book. I appreciated the premise of what happens if the chosen one dies but once the apathetic gods got involved I bailed 🤦🏼♀️

Pretty good haul from my new local library. It‘s nice being part of a larger system now because they have more books! But there‘s also way more people...that put holds on books...like all the ones I have. So renewals aren‘t something I‘ll be able to fall back on anymore in case I don‘t get all these finished in time😪The actual physical library itself I‘m lukewarm on, but maybe I‘ll grow to love it. Fingers crossed I can get these done.
Page 50 and this took a turn that had me laugh out loud. True to the cover‘s “For men to rise, heroes must fall.”, I have a feeling this story will turn the hero‘s journey on its head.
It took me a bit to get into the plot of this book, but as I read more I started to love it. I can‘t wait for the next book to come out bc I think it‘ll be even better.
The so-so rating is because it took me a while to get invested in the book, and I was a bit skeptical for the first half about whether I would enjoy the plot, and how it‘s got a different feel to most fantasy I read even if there are still some common themes.
Why ... Why... Why 😖so this is the first book of 2... 3...??? I don‘t know but there‘s another book I have to wait for to complete this book 😖 well crap so I loved the interaction between characters and the storyline along with some of the change ups within the storyline now I can‘t wait for the next book... hope this isn‘t another “Patrick Rothfuss” issue 🤨📚
Will be starting this in the morning.... zipping through my physical tbr pile 🙌🏽📖
The #weekendlibraryhaul 📚♥️ Now if the kids could just take care of themselves 😂😁
Helo everyone, I keep seeing glowing reviews on this book, but I'm struggling to past page 186 and it was a struggle getting to this point. Does the plot pick up at some point or should I just stop now? I hate quitting books, but this has been a struggle to get into. Your thoughts? :)
Update: After several hours of deliberation I have decided to bail on this book. I have too many books on my shelf that I want to read more than this one.
I LOVED THIS BOOK! this was soooooo good!! It starts out like your typical fantasy story and then BAM it becomes so unpredictable and just crazy turn after crazy turn! The Main Character was the biggest head turner and that‘s how I am leaving that! Also Dolt is best stupid horse ever and I love him! Ahh I can‘t wait for book 2!!!
This book was so so good! My first Kel Kade. I am going to anxiously be awaiting the next installment. Hopefully it doesn't take too long. There was no lull in this book. It makes you invested in the characters from start to finish.
My guy is out for a few hours & the dog is (finally!) tuckered out, so I'm taking a little break to read a bit more of this. Work has gotten very busy so I haven't gotten much reading time in lately. Confession: I am so behind that this book was just released so while in B&N yesterday, I snapped a pic of the map that my ARC is missing.
I'm sitting in the Dallas Airport deciding what I want to eat for an early lunch. I'm on my way to New Mexico for a library conference.
I started this book on the first leg of my trip and will read more during my 2.5 hour layover. The dialogue is a bit juvenile, but I like the plot and setting so far.
Finally received my “Book of the Month” aka BTM and I‘m excited to read this one 📖😋🙌🏽
60 pages into this story and It has already taken a huge twist I was not expecting, but I am so here to see where it leads next!
@Branwen My BOTM finally showed up.
I am so excited to read this, I have been waiting for months for its release since I stumbled upon it on Goodreads. I feel a little special knowing I have it earlier too since it comes out next month, this is as close to an ARC I have ever had (I have never had an ARC) the only thing irking me about this copy is that logo for BOTM why couldn‘t it be a sticker, I‘ll admit I‘m a cover snob and that ruins it DX
While I'm always excited for my Book of the Month box to arrive, this month I was particularly impatient for it to get here! I love my choices! 😍 I'm always overjoyed when there are good fantasy books to pick from! And Imaginary Friend looks delightfully spooky and it's HUGE! Over 700 pages! Yaaaassss! 👍📚💕 What did everyone else choose this month? #bookmail #botm
It‘s the first of the month - that means it‘s time for new Book of the Month selections! My judge pick this month is FATE OF THE FALLEN by Kel Kade! What if the Chosen One doesn‘t prevail? What if the sidekicks are the real heroes? FIND OUT. (📸 by BOTM) 📚
YAAAASSSSSS! The Book of the Month picks are up, littens! Maybe it's just me, but I feel like the choices for this month are out of this world awesome! 😀🎉📚 Here's what I picked: an adult fantasy, a YA fantasy, and a fantastic looking spooky book by the author of The Perks of Being a Wallflower! It's apparently over 700 pages and I'm all about big books! 😉 I'M SO EXCITED! Which books are you guys going to choose? #botm #bookmail
Surprise book mail! I entered a contest for this book and I suppose this means I am a winner!
