I was irritated by the characters and the story was very predictable. The ending also just seemed rushed and abrupt. ⭐️⭐️

I‘d heard so many things about this book, I had to read it to make my own mind up.
Exploring Finn and Autumns relationship from childhood using flashbacks was a great way to keep the reader wanting more. As a young adult story it deals with several emotive issues and I found it quite raw and intense in parts.
Beautiful writing that captured my heart, Delicate passages written with purpose. I was rooting for them both despite guessing the ending.
If he had been with me is a book about a tragic teenage love story where two ex best friends who went from hating each other to loving each other. In the end they fall in love, but that only lasted so long before they were torn apart by death. The theme of this book is grief and it shows how broken Autumn was when she lost her love and how she tried to cope. If you liked the book The Way I Used to be I think you would enjoy this book as well.

What‘s your favorite candy?
WHY DID IT HAVE TO END LIKE THAT??? WHAT DO YOU MEAN???? WHAT. THE. FRICK.
If he had been with me is about a teenage girl Autumn who is in love with her Nextdoor neighbour and ex best friend Finny, but he doesn‘t know. Little does Autumn know Finny has been feeling the same way since middle school. This book is written in third person limited and we only get in thoughts of autumn. If you like tragic romances this would be a perfect book.
I've been giving my 8th graders books that I loved when I was their age all year & they've been passing them around to friends which has been really cool to see. Yesterday, one of them brought me a new book & said, "We've all read this one, so now it's your turn." I feel like I accidentally started a little book club and I love that they want me to read their favorites now. ?
Well that was sufficiently painful. If the winter blues have you feeling numb, this book will get your heart aching 💔 The ending left me wanting more, so I suppose that means I developed an attachment to the MC.
3.25 out of 5 stars
A bit emotional but pretty good. The ending was not too shocking but still hurts. And his last words to her just seemed off
Not a huge fan of the ending. I already suspected Finny would die, so I was just waiting for it to be spelled out. The pregnancy I was not expecting but I think it was a good ending for the path the plot took. Autumn was a good main character and I related to her a lot but I liked Finny more. However, I must admit the author did a great job of making me tear up a bit.
I finished this book yesterday morning and I don‘t know what it is, but I can‘t seem to move on to reading another book. I‘m just so stuck on it and its characters. I think I‘m mourning… lol🤍 IDK WHAT TO DO.
The build-up of this book was great. Always waiting, for Jamie to be the bad guy, for Finn to be the hero. That ending. A pregnancy? That is what saves her? Ugh.
This book was so good. Was not expecting the ending at all. Got me all up in my feelings.
Got book fairied on tiktok. So excited about this one. Heard it makes you cry.
This was a low pick for me, but a so-so didn‘t seem fair. I thought this book was about something else entirely, so that may play a role in this. The MC Autumn was kind of irritating, yet, the accurately depicted what high-school kids, their minds, the drama. Seemed quite repetitive and drawn out sometimes, but wasn‘t miserable to read either. +15 for a photo challenge read #scarathon #TeamCreepinItReal #day25 #autumn
I would rate this 6 out of 10. I love Finny so much, and Autumns journey to finding herself is lovely and very relatable. I loved the way depression, loss, and loneliness were incorporated, it was done in a very meaningful and relatable way. This book honestly made me feel terrible, it was so sad. The ending felt incomplete and rushed, but all in all it was a good read.
This book! I was cleaning while listening to the last hour and a half and I literally had to stop what I was doing and sit down. 😭

I regret reading this. It's very YA and I felt my age.
A novel that really brought back a sense of nostalgia of my high school self. I thought the plot was well done and the characters were well written. However, I wasn‘t a fan of the end of the novel. I genuinely thought that the flippant nature of her attempted suicide really contradicted with the rest of the story. Also, Autumn‘s “mistakes” were ones that any teenager could make without catastrophic consequences.
⭐️⭐️⭐️✨(3.5/5)
I ugly cried at the ending. I am a little upset at the suicide attempt. It feels very irresponsible on the authors part especially with it aimed at the YA audience. I‘m excited to read the second book from Ginny‘s perspective.
A coming of age story, told from Autumn‘s point of view about her and her next door neighbor Finny. The writing was ok for YA, but could‘ve been less step by step. You get part of the ending at the beginning, but the true ending is sad. I‘m angry with the suicide attempt, this makes it so that teens who read this book think it‘s okay to do that to overcome grief. It‘s irresponsible writing, especially with this being YA. I AM MAD. Book #36 in 2023
If he had been with me, everything would have been different…
Autumn and Finn used to be inseparable. But then something changed. Or they changed. Now, they do their best to ignore each other.
- I fell for the TikTok hype. The FMC was obnoxious and I kept wondering where the plot was going. I really wanted to love this!
Has anyone read this one? It‘s been on my tbr for awhile I‘ve heard it‘s really sad! What‘s everyone‘s thoughts on this book?
Ok so i really liked this book but i have no clue if it was just my book but once i got to chapter 81 right in the middle of the chapter it went back to like chapter 70 or 71 and then chapters went back to 81 .

THIS F**CKING BOOK! I have never sobbed so hard, for long while reading. Why?!?! What would possess an author to write an ending that literally is DEVASTATING! I stayed up till 2am for SOUL CRUSHING HEARTBREAK??!?!?!? Who has read this? I NEED to talk about this book! #ifhehadbeenwithme #highschoollove #YA
Still reading on chapter 36… high school romance … trials and tribulations of a teenager.. eager to see where it goes!!
I want to savor this wonder, this happening of loving a book and reading it for the first time, because the first time is always the best, and I will never read this book for the first time ever again.
I have a feeling this one is going to hurt my heart. Can‘t wait to start it 😅
I absolutely loved this book, even though most of it was pretty predictable. You get such a connection to the characters and it leaves you wishing there was just a little bit more!
Just finished this book, and…
I cried, literal tears. I don‘t know if I can forgive the Author. Loved the story but parts broke my heart. I felt shattered. I know, I know…just a book but I got too attached. Reading, is practically the only time I cry because I get so submerged into their lives as if I was living it (more than I live mine haha)
If you‘re interested…Kind of teenage love type story, intertwined since childhood; Full of What-Ifs

YA Contemporary
With a side of romance
A story where you know how it ends
The narration was amazing and definitely gave my rating a boost but I‘ve slowly been feeling pulled away from YA, and that heavily influenced my rating in the other direction. I do feel this could still easily appeal to someone younger or someone who isn‘t jaded by unnecessary angst that's brought on by indecisiveness and people not saying how they really feel.
my favorite book so i‘m not sure why it took me like 3 weeks to reread. i made my roommate read this and she liked it. so if i could recommend any book to anyone this is it. i love it so much it holds such a special place in my heart
Damn what a beautiful, effed-up love story. My emo younger self would have ate this up. I love sad books, this one is definitely SAD AF. I walked away with this message: Life is too short. Don‘t hold back your feelings, tell your loved ones you love them. Don‘t let fear control your life. Being sad is beautiful. TW: death, depression
I need to stop coming across tear jerking stories! Last YA novel I read annoyed the crap out of me but this one was a pleasant surprise. The love story between Finny and Autumn is something you‘ll only see in the movies or books but it‘s a love story that will stick with you after the last page.
Autumn and Phineas: their moms were like sisters, they were born in same hospital in same week, they were neighbors, they were best friends, they'd been together always..
