A photographer shooting covered bridges in Iowa meets a farmer's wife whose family is away for a week and they fall for each other.
I read this in the mid 1990s but have no memory of it. It did not strike any emotional chords and in fact I found myself wondering at times what some of the purpler passages actually meant. It's obviously a favourite of the woman who chose it for our book club and uniting truth and tact is going to be difficult.

I‘m surprised how much I enjoyed this. My heart hurt for the two characters but also I was happy for them and what little time they did have. It took some adjustment for me due to it being an affair, and I was a bit surprised how accepting I was of it. The quietness of the love is what I think did it for me. In a world where 99% of the romance books are just thinly veiled smut, it was refreshing.
This was my #BookSpin for March.
(1992) This was the bestselling book in the U.S. in 1992. Back in 1992 I worked the service desk of a public library and set a goal to read everything on the Bestseller list. No fan of romance, I liked it better than expected: I liked its direct language, attention to detail, and its brevity. This time around I like it less -- its excessive sentimentalism makes my eyes roll -- but still think it's a pretty good example of the kind of thing it is

Lordt. I was ranting about this book to my husband and he said the movie was good. 🙄🤣 Well, yeah, Eastwood‘s in it. The dialogue was obnoxious (“My God, your power” Girl, no.) if I read that he was “a leopard that rode in on a comet” ONE MORE TIME. The author 100% wrote himself as the main male character. She looked down her nose at the Iowans (all they want out of life is to farm and raise families. Okay? And?) I get it. Shes lonely. 👇🏻

#MadeYouCry
I use this book anytime someone asks what book made me cry. Because even though no character dies, it is heart wrenching 💔 😭
This was my February #doublespin @TheAromaofBooks
I enjoyed the love story, but I think the film would really make me cry. I'm going to watch that one. Some of the words used threw me off. Too flowery for my taste I guess.
TBR since at least February 21st. 2015; 201 pages.
This one totally blew my socks off 💨🧦
I really did not like the two MC's because of their actions, or the first half or so of the story.(Imo they were both glutton for punishment.) However, this author had me sucked in and completely emotionally invested by the end. It was just so, so atmospheric and well written that it was impossible not to be. Thank you so much @alwaysbeenaloverofbooks for sending this to me. ❤

Prompt: Meryl Streep
This is one of my favorite movie to book adaptations.
#movie2bookrecs Read this book while on a train between London and Cardiff, Wales. I was like 21-22yo. I sobbed like a baby trying to be quiet about it so as to not draw the attention of the other passengers. Now I sob every time I watch the movie. 😭
2 things I finished today : decorating my tree and The Bridges of Madison County. I should have read this a long time ago, I honestly can‘t believe it took me this long to knock it off my TBR! It‘s a short book but really packs a punch (most definitely a tear-jerker) Thank you so much @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks for sending this to me months ago! 💚

Nearly broke me!! 💔
I had just finished watching the movie and thought, “The book has to be better.” I checked it out from an online library and wasn‘t disappointed. It‘s a poetic, touching read that should make you weep at least twice. No movie can do this book justice. It must be read.
This book is a classic for me... as often is the case, the movie did not do it justice. It‘s not often that a book makes me cry, this one gets me every time.
A slightly slower reading month for this year, but rocking for my overall past reading life! It was so hard to pick a favorite this month. It‘s been a wonderful reading year filled with tons of great books!
I was going through some old books, deciding which ones I wanted to trade in for credit. Knowing this one was a keeper, I put it back on my shelf, but something fell out. It was an old postcard my mom had sent me while on a business trip to Iowa. I guess I tucked it away and forgot about it. So glad I didn‘t trade it!
This was my August #bookspin and it was good! A nice, quick read. I‘m not once for romance usually but the writing was lyrical at times. I definitely don‘t regret my mom recommending this to me

Came home to the sweetest surprise from @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks ! Thank you so much, it means a lot to me!! 💜 so grateful to be feeling better, and extremely thankful for being a part of #LitsyLove 🥰 Can‘t wait to dive right into this book!!
I‘m posting one book a day from my extensive TBR pile. No description. No explanation. Some will be new. Some will be old. They all spoke to me at one time. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in on the fun if you want to.

I'm a day late. Hopefully not a dollar short!
I read the book before I saw the movie. The movie was good but in the end it didn't do justice to the book.
Still thinking about this one after my “so-so” review yesterday; I dislike it more the more I think about it so switched to “pan”. Mostly I think the author manipulated the audience to support bad behavior and failed to support the ‘love story‘ which is really just an affair without any context before it or resolution after.
I left more complete thoughts on Goodreads. I know my thoughts are unpopular, but I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER getting them out.
I read this because I love Clint Eastwood‘s legendary movies and I haven‘t seen this one. (He is THE BEST.) Yes, I know I should have suspended my disbelief. I agree, this author is talented. I appreciate that he didn‘t waste words here. Still, I have major conflicting feelings. It took me 19 days to finish its

Day 4 of #agameoffavorites This is Robert James Waller, he was born & raised in Iowa & was a college professor. He loved taking photos & was struck with the idea for the tagged book while on a trip to the bridges. I could not find his favorite book & he said he was more into music. I have not read the book or seen the movie, but I have visited all the bridges (they are about 30 minutes away!) & taken pictures of them!

Iowans have their faults, but one of them is not lack of caring.
Because...library book sales are everything...and this book made me want to write real life love stories. 💖📚💖
