Inspired by The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, this tantalizing sequel to Megan Shepherd's gothic suspense novel The Madman's Daughter explores the hidden natures of those we love and how far we'll go to save them from themselves. Perfect for fans of Libba Bray. Back in London after her trip to Dr. Moreau's horrific island, Juliet is rebuilding the life she once knew and trying to forget her father's legacy. But soon it's clear that someone or something hasn't forgotten her, as people close to Juliet start falling victim to a murderer who leaves a macabre calling card of three clawlike slashes. Has one of her father's creations also escaped the island? As Juliet strives to stop a killer while searching for a serum to cure her own worsening illness, she finds herself once more in a world of scandal and danger. Her heart torn in two, her past bubbling to the surface, and her life threatened by an obsessive killer Juliet will be lucky to escape alive."

As Edward lay dying and my thoughts turned as fast as the carriage wheels, the horses whisked us away, far north, where the heath grew and wind twisted the trees, to a place where people were forgotten.
To a place we‘d never be found.
To a place where I might lose myself to the same dark madness that had claimed my father.

The air in my crumbling attic chamber smelled of roses and formaldehyde.
Beyond the frosted windowpanes, the rooftops of Shoreditch stretched toward the east in sharp angles still marked with yesterday‘s snow, as chimney stacks pumped smoke into an already foggy sky.

Book 6 I listened to this, the second in a series I started eight years ago. The first was a book I've remembered; I was eager to continue. This was more of the daughter's love story, choosing between two men she loves and has a history with. The audio was grating at times. The writing was a bit trite and repetitive. Before writing this review, I read the third book, which is difficult to not mix my opinions about the final two books.

This was an amazing book to read. It was full of so many surprising twists. Especially the twist at the very end. It had my heart racing throughout the entire story. Every time I picked up this book my heart began to race with excitement. I cannot wait to see what happens in the last book of the series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book, like the first one, has torn my heart to shreds! I loved this just as much as the first, the eerie atmosphere and maddening choices Juliet makes in order to save those she cares about makes the book so gothic and dark. The plot had huge twists and the romance still made me swoon. I absolutely love this series so far, and definitely reccomend.
Onward to the final part of this astonishing trilogy.

I really enjoyed this 2nd book in the Madman‘s Daughter trilogy. Unlike the 1st, I did have moments of “Come on! Really?” when things got a little far fetched but I still really enjoyed the book. I‘ve had enough for now though of this series so I‘m reading something else next but I will read the third book soon. 4/5 ⭐️

OK, finished it. Another solid read in this trilogy. This one borrowed from Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Juliet continues to be an interesting main character, but like other readers, I‘m getting tired of the love triangle. Very impressed with Juliet‘s solid knowledge of chemistry in this book, which kills a bad guy at one point. More unholy laboratory hijinks to come in book 3, with a Frankenstein story foreshadowed. I‘m committed now!

I like this series, but gosh the books seem to take a long time to read. The books hold my interest and the prose doesn‘t seem especially dense to me...I don‘t know what it is. Still working on this one, about 80% done.

ChrysFey Stunning cover, though. 😍 7y
azulaco @ChrysFey They all have those beautiful romance-looking covers with the gorgeous dresses, which is interesting because I wouldn‘t classify them as romance, exactly. There is a romance happening in them, but I think they are much more thriller/horror. I guess the artist tried to get that across with the dark palette of colors. (edited) 7y

The fraught love triangle situation in this book is giving me flashbacks to the Twilight series, only this time it‘s Team Edward vs. Team Montgomery. Juliet doesn‘t seem able to choose, though honestly they‘re both bad choices in my opinion. Cute boys, though. 😄 Is it bad that I‘m rooting for Edward, clearly the more literally, physically dangerous and more evil of the two?

I enjoyed the first book in this series so much, I have immediately moved on to the second. Juliet‘s returned to London, but her dark past seems to still be pursuing her. It‘s a thriller so far, and I‘m sure the horror will show up pretty soon. The whole trilogy is available on Scribd, yay!

This book was okay. I loved the setting and the bringing back of things mentioned in the first book but I had some big issues with the writing. I don't think the characters have been well developed enough to have the emotional back and forth that the main character does. She's comes off as selective in what she remembers depending on her mood. The romance triangle was also drawn out and way too played up. I think I'll read the sequel but who knows

Why not? I won't have a chance to sit down and read my physical book until tomorrow so I might as well use an audiobook.

This is the 2nd book (following The Madman's Daughter) and is loosely based on The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. When i say loosely I mean VERY loosely. It was more of a spin-off of The Island of Dr. Moreau, which the 1st book was based on. This was kinda neutral for me. There were some things that fell flat, but other things I enjoyed. The ending felt a little rushed. But I would still continue with the 3rd book.

I'm loving the whole Jekyll and Hyde, but wish I wouldn't be so tired when I'm reading so I can last more then a couple chapters.
