Vampires were so huge in YA for a while, and it turns out I missed them! Ahdieh brings 1870s New Orleans to life as equal parts danger and excitement. Impetuous Celine, arriving from Paris, hopes for a fresh start but instead finds herself courting danger and followed by murder. She is a bold, clever MC and her romance with the smoldering Bastien has the perfect amount of tension. The ending felt a little sloppy, but I‘m still on board for book 2.

I'm not marking this as a bail. I fully intend on picking it up at a later date (maybe in the Fall) but I have tried all month long to read this one and I'm calling it quits at 34% 😥

⚫A feisty female lead
⚫A phenomenal audio narrator
⚫Murder mystery!

...but it is just so painstakingly slow!! The writing is beautiful but very flowery and wordy. 🫠

Well this didn‘t quiet go the way I had hoped it might. All the same it‘s well written and worth a go for southern gothic lovers.

#LMPBC #GroupV ooh that ending! I enjoyed this one. I loved the 1872 New Orleans setting and although the FMC was naive and prideful at times, the other characters made up for her shortcomings. It was a different type of Vampire story- not what I expected at all. I loved the multiple feuds between people and creatures. 3.5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 🧛🏻

This was a okay book. It is pretty well written although the dialogue is a little cringey in a few places. I really only liked the main character Celine when she was with others. I didn‘t hate her but she irritated me. I found it hard to find the motivation to pick up the book. I really enjoyed the last quarter of the book and the ending made me curious to read the next book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5

Finished this book last night. It was pretty good. I own a copy from BOTM but I can‘t access any of my books right now.

I wasn‘t sure what to expect with this one. I really like the author and have enjoyed all her books. There are vampires and other creatures in New Orleans. There is a slight love triangle, but it‘s definitely one sided. Like 2 guys like 1 girl, but she clearly only likes 1 guy. So wasn‘t annoying.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I am very curious to see how the rest of the series pans out. I recommend this book if you are interested in a more historical fiction take on vampires and also if you want to read a YA vampire series that isn‘t Twilight (no shade against Twilight, I just know it isn‘t everyone‘s cup of tea).

Loved this book and how it didn't feel like one of those typical vampire romances.

Really enjoyed this one. It felt so mysterious while reading and I need to read book 2 soon. Been working on this one for awhile and I‘m sad it‘s over. Another spot for my #bookspinbingo

1. Kooky is good as long as it's done right but creepy is almost always a hit with me

Starting Book 4 of September and Book 131 of 2020!!!

Most favorite book ever! I loved that it was in the Victorian era and there is some French in it! Of course, vampires are always great to have in any book!

Vampires in New Orleans...but it‘s not what you think. There was a lot of build-up and not a ton of resolution, but interested to see where this YA series goes.

Another YA romance set in the vampire genre. Historical 1872 New Orleans, a dressmaker encounters a dashing nobleman tied to a warring vampire clan and all hell breaks loose. Certainly hitting the Twilight crowd and written prose is poetic and beautiful. Unfortunately, this book extremely slow paced and frustrating to get through. Have to be on a mood to read it.

I liked the heroine a lot more than I normally do in these types of novels. She had a good sense of self. I enjoyed the classic New Orleans setting and of course, the vampires. I love vampires done right!

I really liked this book. It had a good bit of mystery and romance all tied into one plot. I do, however, believe that it is much easier to read and understand if you have at least a grasp of conversational French. There are a lot of phrases and sentences that are written in French that are not translated after the speaker says it. Some you can understand through context, but others you will not be able to.

An enjoyable read despite being a bit predictable and cliched. The prose, while not dry, seemed repetitive. I'd love Ms. Ahdieh to find a few more adjectives to describe Basten other than "beautiful".
Loved the main character, Celine. Witty, courageous, confident. I hadn't expected this from the description.
There's a sequel coming out sometime this year, looking forward to read it.
