This was an interesting family drama/mystery/legal thriller that I read for one of my book clubs. There are twists, of course, but they‘re not the whole point of the story. Characters are all annoying. I liked it but didn‘t love it.

I‘m making my way through my #Adventathon goals. Next up: The Black Loch. It‘s been riding around in the back of my car for a few days!

I didn't particularly like Chloe, the driven, successful writer and magazine editor who narrates this story. After she finds the body of her murdered husband on the floor of their vacation home, Chloe must deal with the revelation of secrets at odds with the image of perfect family life she's tried so hard to present to the world. The ending brought everything into perfect focus, a masterful conclusion to a tense and gripping read.

First book I‘ve read by this author. It presents a unique situation Adam McIntosh married Nicky and they had a son Ethan. Due to Nicky‘s negligence as a wife and mother, Adam divorced her and married her sister Chloe. Chloe is a very famous inflluencer whose main claim to fame is empowering women. Although close during childhood, the sisters are at odds with each other as adults. The inevitable murder occurs and relationships matter.

Overall Rating 4⭐ | Narration 😁 = Very Good
I initially rated this three and a half stars...but once I tried to sort out how I felt about the story I realized I was selling it somewhat short. It was actually unexpectedly clever. I had my issues with some elements but the way everything worked out by the end was indeed quite satisfying.

But I still am not sure which sister is the better sister.

Great murder mystery/courtroom drama with a little plot twist at the end. Great characters, great pace and i wasn't exactly 100% sure "who dunnit" till the end. I will be looking to pick up more from this author. ⚖⚖⚖⚖

This was the first novel I‘ve read by Alafair Burke and I was not disappointed! My mother is the one that recommended Burke to me. I definitely plan on reading all of her novels, because this one kept me reading and I didn‘t want to put it down. I didn‘t see the twist coming at the end and it shocked me! I can‘t wait to read more of her books!

3.5 stars

A man is murdered in his East Hampton beach house causing two estranged sisters – the dead man‘s wife and his ex-wife –to come together to try and stop their son from going to prison for the murder. That alone is intense! However interesting the premise may be, it fell a little short. I wanted a bigger twist at the end and more about the sisters strained relationship.

LOL and imagine if alternate titles were considered.. The Spiteful Sister? The Nasty Sister? No love is lost between these two long estranged women. It doesn‘t help that Adam has been married to both Nicky and Chloe and now he‘s been stabbed to death. This very current read will keep you interested with the mysterious reveals. Who is nice or naughty? Who is charming or controlling? When the police arrest the son sister secrets could be in danger.

I really enjoyed this book! Once I started reading, I had a hard time putting it down, I wound up finishing it in two days. I enjoyed the blending of crime and legal thriller. The characters were easy to connect with and I liked the way that the author brought current events into the story. This book is a pick for me!

Ever find an author you never would have picked up had it not been for a friend's glowing recommendation? Alafair Burke is just that for me. Now, having enjoyed three titles in the last year, she's one I can imagine reading each new title released. She keeps me guessing until the end, the pacing is perfect, and her characters well-rounded and authentic. I shouldn't have read this one so fast, now I'll have to wait a while for her next title. 4.5☆

Loved this book! So glad I decided to give her another chance after the horrendous ending of her last book. This was a fast paced murder mystery and I loved the twists and turns. Very enjoyable read that you don‘t want to put down.
