Attack of the 50 Foot Wallflower
Attack of the 50 Foot Wallflower | Christian McKay Heidicker
3 posts | 2 read | 6 to read
From the author of Cure for the Common Universe comes a monster-movie-like novel that bravely challenges perceived notions of beauty, identity, and modern voyeurism. Phoebe Lane is a lightning rod for monsters. She and her mom are forced to flee flesh-eating plants, blobs from outer space, and radioactive ants. They survive thanks to Phoebes dadan invisible titan, whose giant eyes warn them where the next monster attack will take place. All Phoebe wants is to stop running from motel to motel and start living a monster-free life in New York or Paris. But when her mom mysteriously vanishes, Phoebe is left to fend for herself in small-town Pennybrooke. That's when Phoebe starts to transform Christian McKay Heidicker returns with a book unlike any other, challenging perceived notions of beauty, identity, and what it means to be a monster.

Good morning. I‘ll be jumping back in to #24in48 in a few minutes but I wanted to get my challenge done first.

Anyone who pays attention to what I read knows I‘m a big SFF nut. These are just the books under my TV and as you can see all but about 6 could be used for any #SFFchallenge. That includes the the books Upstairs in my un-air conditioned library (and it‘s currently 87F ). It is the same type of picture.

I proudly wave my geek flag.

BooknerdsLife Aww I see soma by books I‘d love to read too!!!😍😍📚 5y

So I am once again participating in #MakeMeReadIt. You my friends get to pick one book I will read in July. I may read more, but I only promise one has I have other reading commitments.

You get to choose between 2 mg, 2 ya, and 2 adult titles.

theresidentromantic Kill the Farmboy was amazing, but I'd read a sample first. It requires a specific kind of humor. I loved it, bought a pretty edition and begged my fiance to read it and he gave it back to me like I'm sorry, I love you, I refuse to read anymore of this book lol 6y

Trashcanman This one, or else. 6y
LibrarianRyan @theresidentromantic thanks. I‘ve read many of the same authors Hounded books. 6y
LibrarianRyan @Trashcanman I don‘t own that one. But I can get a copy. And I will read it but I need a little quid pro quo. It will take me a bit to determine which book you should read if you want to accept this challenge. 😈😈 6y
Trashcanman @LibrarianRyan OH it's on! But! You have to match that word count or less! Deal? 6y
theresidentromantic @LibrarianRyan Trust me! So have both of us, Atticus has pride of place on one of our bookshelves, this is only barely similar. 6y
LibrarianRyan @theresidentromantic ohhhh. Thanks for the heads up. 6y
LibrarianRyan @Trashcanman deal. I have an idea but I have to check word count. 6y
theresidentromantic @LibrarianRyan Yep! I really hope you love it, but I'd feel bad if it was selected and then you were like what is this? Lol No snarky Atticus here. Just the weirdest D&D campaign ever. 6y
LibrarianRyan @Trashcanman I am going to let you choose between 2. And I am picking 2 books I absolutely love. Probably out of your comfort zone, but so is First Blood for me. 6y
LibrarianRyan @Trashcanman option 1. Space, not a frontier but a life line. The best description of cryo freezing ever. No relationship to the Beatles. 6y
LibrarianRyan @Trashcanman option 2. A fantastic retelling of Alice in Wonderland. No magic just imagination. 6y
Trashcanman @LibrarianRyan these word counts are comparable?. 6y
LibrarianRyan @Trashcanman apparently my copy of Across the universe is not. Just thin page. Looking glass wars Yes. My research shows first blood is between 75-80,000 words. LGW is 71773 by official AR count 6y
SaturnDoo I haven't read any of these but Nora Roberts is a favorite author and also on my TBR. So I'm going with 6y
jb72 I‘ll vote for 6y
