so-soAn Outlander-like take on the war between Ireland and England in the early 1900s. Anne, who‘s present time is 2001, suddenly finds herself in 1920s Ireland after attempting to spread her grandfathers ashes. She meets unexpected people and finds herself in a precarious situation being whisked out of her own time. I liked the twistiness of circumstances within the book but found my mind drifting a lot in the middle of the book. Strong finish though!

panI feel like I have read a different book than others. With lines such as “The softness of her breasts could not mask her terror“ I was rolling my eyes through most of this. It felt so convoluted. I did not enjoy Thomas' journal entries that kept interrupting Anne's story. While I really wanted to learn more about the Irish Independence, and I am interesting in Michael Collins as a character (in real or fictional life) 👎
pickIf you‘re looking for a great story, one that truly grabs hold of you, this is it. My goodness! I didn‘t go in with any expectations; the summary sounded good and I figured I could start and finish it before I left on vacation (I don‘t like bringing half-finished books with me, does anyone else feel that way?). I don‘t want to say anything else because I may blab and spoil things and I don‘t want to do that. Read this, it‘s good!
pickI‘ve enjoyed every Amy Harmon historical fiction I‘ve read. Despite some reservations about this one from @Saknicole , I still really liked this one. It wasn‘t super original (very obvious Outlander inspiration in the time travel aspect of plot), but the romance was well paced with the perfect amount of steam, and the 1920s era Ireland setting was well rendered for someone who hasn‘t read a lot of books about that time period.

pickI found this to be such a moving read! It‘s a time travel A la The Outlander with romance and intrigue. Set in Ireland I found myself swept up with the story right from the start. Add beautiful writing and well drawn characters and it was a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 read for me.

pickReminded me of “Outlander” the way it started in present day and went back to 1921 In Ireland. Good historical information on Irelands wish to be free from Englands ruling and the dissent it caused among the people of Ireland. We‘ll written and certainly a page turner.

21 #72 This book. I didn‘t want to like it because I hate time travel stuff. It‘s too deep for me, typically. My mind can‘t wrap itself around it. But I loved this book. It was well written. I learned a lot about Irish history. Likable characters. And I was smiling at the end. Winner!

This book isn‘t really like Outlander at all, but it certainly helped quench my Outlander-thirst. 😉

pickThis is a five star read no matter. The timing made this more emotional for me though as I witnessed two family members lose their great loves this week.
pickBook 109 Anne's grandfather, by whom she was raised, dies, and she takes his ashes to Ireland, where she learns about her roots (in a very fantastical, The Time Traveler's Wife way). Chapters alternate between Anne's story and the history of Ireland's revolution (elucidated via fictional journal entries). While a refreshing setting for a historical fiction, the journal chapters were dull. Still, the relationships are compelling.

so-soI really liked The first girl child, so I thought I‘d give another Harmon book a try. This was, however, more of a romance only type of novel, and a bit “too much” for me. I‘ll give this author one more try though - any recommendations?

pickWhen Anne takes a boat onto an Irish lake to scatter her grandfather‘s ashes she doesn‘t expect for the present to #disappear and to find herself in 1921, reunited with her grandfather when he was a child. I picked up this book out of curiosity and ended up really liking it. I loved reading about Ireland during that time period and thought the time travel aspect was handled well. Really surprised by how much I enjoyed this.

This cover... gorgeous! If I love it as much as I think I will, I‘m going to have to get myself a hard copy. Planning to take the boys to the lake to fish with family and hopefully plug in the earbuds and get lost in the story for a while.
pickOriginally picked it up last summer because I was on an Outlander kick and this is much in the same vein.
IMHO, this is a more succinct version of outlander. The timeline is shortens, the characters are deeper and more compelling much faster, and there is a lot less melodrama. Basically, I found it to be a lot of the things I loved about the first couple outlander books, but without a lot of the things I didn't love. And a real fresh setting.

It's officially my winter break, I got through today's to - do list, and I'm kicking back. 🥳This book is a gentle read to start me off. Reminds me of Outlander and Susanna Kearsley books - time travel and history and romance.

pickBeautiful story. A bit predictable a few times, but still a lovely story. It evoked a wide range of emotions from me; I often could feel what the heroine was feeling. I sometimes don‘t care for time travel stories, but this one was well executed. I highly recommend.

pickThis was literary ambrosia. I loved it and gave it 5 sparkling stars. It was beautifully constructed and the two main characters were well developed. My only qualm was that when I closed the book, I wasn‘t left pondering any character tensions. The plot wrapped up so tidily that it was a little convenient.

pickOh. My. Goodness. That. Ending! The time traveling pulled me in. I was mystified by it. Somehow if you try to overanalyze it, it will just make your head spin. The story was beautiful and unforgettable. This is my first novel with this author and I am pleased to say that I enjoyed it very much.
I'm only in ch 1 and I'm already getting the "feels" with this book, and somehow I'm getting the premonition that something is about to surprise me. ????
