pickI love the concept - pretty much Buffy in the Regency period, and better done than the other series I've read with a similar premise. The supporting characters are interesting, and I'm enjoying watching the protagonist Lady Helen develop.
Unfortunately Alison Goodman has fallen into the YA love triangle trope, and I had a bit of trouble connecting with the writing style in this book (maybe just a mood thing). Still a medium pick for me. 3.75⭐
panDefinitely a unique idea. I read this out of joint so I may feel more for it after starting with book one.

I can't wait until I can read this! This is the sequel and since this is the year I'm reading sequels... anyway, the first book was akin to a Pride & Prejudice meets Shadowhunters so while it's a YA historical fiction with demons... it has a more grown up feeling to it and some parallels to P&P!

pickThe Dark Days Club by Alison Goodman follows the story of Lady Helen, a coming-of-age young woman in regency England who is preparing to make her debut into high society but instead of facing marriage proposals she's facing monsters, magic and the terrible history her mother left behind.
I was SO not prepared to like this book as much as I did. It's silly in a good way and thoroughly researched. It does get slow at points, however, so 4/5 stars.

pickWow, great sequel to the original! And I'm happy to find that she is currently writing book 3 as there were several threads left dangling at the end of this one. LOTS of action, adventure, a few dark parts, angst and romance...at 480+ pages, a little bit of everything. Glad I discovered this series! #romantsy #osrbc

pickThis continuation of Lady Helen's story gets off to a bit of a slow start, but ends up just as engaging as the first. A darkly fun adventure with interesting characters, delightful period details about the Brighton Season, and vivid descriptions of the supernatural elements.
The supernatural, demon-hunting side of things is slightly less prominent in this one with more of the focus on conspiracy and secrets -- but there's plenty of action too.
I've been feeling a bit under the weather this week -- maybe all I need is to be dipped in the sea 😂

pickThe flow was much quicker than the first and the characters really grew in leaps and bounds. There was more focus on them, allowing one to get to know them better and a few new ones were introduced as well. The action at the end really kicked into high gear, which was awesome. I can't wait for the next book!

pickThis one was a bit of a slow starter for me. I definitely liked book one better, but it ended up being enjoyable follow up. Lots of action in the middle and at the end. Love the pairing of Regency England with the strange world of reclaimers and deceivers! I look forward to the next book!

The events of the first Lady Helen book are slowly coming back to me as I read this, the second
so-soI was ready to bail on this, only sticking it out because I had really liked how Goodman had written Lady Helen in the first book in the series. The last 1/4 of the book was the only part that didn't drag. Not sure I'll bother with the next installment when it comes out.

I can't believe I missed the release of this book! I have been looking forward to it forever! I covered the cover because I hate the new covers 😝 and to also show this great business. I didn't know when I bought it off Amazon that I was buying from a business that does job training & employment for people with special needs and disabilities. I will always browse their shop first on Amazon from this point on when buying books. #ya

I'm such a goof! I've had this on hold for a long time and seen the cover quite a lot, but obviously not too closely or carefully because it wasn't until just now that I realized it's the heroine on the cover and not a man 😆😂
pickThis book was good. I loved reading about a strong female in 1812 overcoming men and monsters, and sometimes both! Helen was one of my fave characters from last year and the sequel just adds to the good. Darby is loyal, Hammond is a new friend, and the relationship between LH and Lord Carlston grew by 10. It was fantastic and fun and an awesome sequel to an awesome series. I needed girl power right now, especially in the face of impossible odds!
After only a month, I'm already a third of the way to meeting my yearly reading goal. Apparently, I find deadlines are good motivators.

Does anyone else ditch the slip covers while reading? They drive me NUTS!
pickThe second in Alison Goodman's YA Regency fantasy trilogy is as good as the first, combining action and great period research that incorporates actual events and historical characters but the love triangle is too obviously skewered, Lady Helen is irritatingly impetuous at times and the age of the protagonists makes me wonder if this is actually New Adult rather than YA.
