Pickpick

A very good collection of short stories themed around the phrase “and then what happens”, that is stories which keep the readers wanting to keep turning the pages. This collection largely complies with this theme, and unlike many such collections I found all of the stories contained to be of good quality or better and not repeats found in other anthologies. If I had to pick a favourite it would be Truth is a Cave in the Black Mountains by Gaiman.

A #mustread! A collection of great #shortstories. Some are creepy, some are heart wrenching, some are funny, and others were full of mystery. The narration of this collection was great!

So day 17 of #riotgrams is "Unreturned Books." This gem was loaned to me an absurdly long time ago by my sweet friend and talented actress, Dana. We were performing in "The Women" together and talked bookish things everyday backstage. Dana, I'm so sorry I still have this! Rorycat is guarding it for you ?

Stories.
A sea of words,
Moments of light,
Book of longing.
Touching from a distance
Harbors and high seas,
The sea and the jungle;
The wood beyond the world.
See now then,
You can‘t go home again.

Jodi Picoult fans, lend me your ears!

I read Weights and Measures in a short story collection this year (tagged), and it took my breath away. Literally. I was weeping by the end of the story, and had to pause the audiobook several times to compose myself. It was that good.

I want to read more by Jodi Picoult, but where should I start? Send me your recommendations!

#TBRtemptation #ReadingRecommendations

saguarosally I've only read two books by her but they were both intriguing. 7y
KCorter @saguarosally Really? Which ones? 😊 7y
Jess7 Fair warning I am not a huge fan of Jodi Picoult, but I did enjoy this one (even though I was ready to slap her racist character Turk). 7y

KCorter Thanks for the heads up, @Jess7! 7y
saguarosally @KCorter Small Great Things and Leaving Time. I'm also trying to get my biggest Picoult fan friend to respond. 😄 7y
KCorter Thanks, @saguarosally! I'll add it to the list 7y
KCorter P.S. Thanks to @morgan_krahn for recommending Small Great Things and 7y
Coleen I've not read all of Picoult's, but I've read a lot. Have enjoyed almost all of them & don't really have a fave, but one I did not care for was The Tenth Circle. 7y
Robothugs I think what Litsy folk are trying to tell you, is to close your eyes and point. 😜 7y
ReadingEnvy @Coleen ha I was going to say The Tenth Circle was my favorite! 7y
KCorter @Coleen and @ReadingEnvy, it was worth making this post for this interaction alone. I love it! 7y
KCorter I think you're right, @Robothugs! 😊 7y
ThatBookishGal That‘s funny I actually enjoyed The Tenth Circle, but it was my first Piccoult. The other ones I would recommend are The Pact and My Sisters Keeper (which is waaaaaaay better than the movie!). The Pact is a real tear jerker! 7y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks You really can't go wrong!!! 7y
Lmstraubie Small Great Things and 7y
EllieDottie I've read about 7 or 8 of her novels and my favorite was Lone Wolf! 7y
JulAnna Mercy or Plain Truth 7y
morgan_krahn Also check out Perfect Match and 7y
KCorter It certainly seems that way, @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks! 7y
Eggs Storyteller, perfect match, small great things, house rules, 19 minutes, sister's keeper 🤗 7y
KCorter I will definitely add those! Thanks, @Eggs! 7y

I have to admit that this book has been on my TBR since its release in 2010 simply because of the cool #coverart.

The most you can usually hope from a short story collection is to enjoy at least half of the stories in the book. All of the stories in this collection are interesting, and the very best of them are breath-taking.

Full review on #Goodreads. Favorites in comments. Listened on #audiobook via #Hoopla.

I don't own too many short story collections, but here are three I've read at least twice (I'm sure you all see the similarities of two of them 😆).

If you haven't read Dahl's stories for adults you really should. He's the master of the twist, cringe-worthy ending. #shortstories #septphotochallenge

These look pretty together but now my shelves are a mess and I can't be bothered putting everything back where it was 😄📚📚

BookHermit Nice composition! Books are so pretty 💜 8y
Marchpane @BookHermit Thank you! I'm loving everyone's white spine posts 😍 8y
rubyslippersreads @Marchpane I have the same problem. I love getting out the books and knickknack stop stage the photos, but hate putting everything away. 😝 8y

rubyslippersreads @Marchpane Oops, that should have been "to stage the photos." ? Embracing the chaos will give us more time to read! 8y
tjwill That happened to me too! 8y
Tav Can identify with not wanting to tidy up the bookshelves! 8y
LisaJo I so get that. That is why I only have four books in my picture, because I kept thinking of the reshelving. 8y

And then what? When given that challenge the collected authors rose to the occasion and created works that answered.
