This is a really cute middle grade that takes readers on a journey to Puerto Rico with the main characters! It was really fun to read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Book 22 #MGMarch #middlegrademarch Marcus is a BIG kid who is misjudged as a bully and extremely protective of his special needs brother and mom. A spontaneous trip to Puerto Rico leads to encounters with his heritage, family, his estranged father, and ultimately important self-discovery. Rich in heart and humor. @Eggs
Another MD BEST, another father MIA. Enjoyed this one. An interesting look at who someone is and family. Quick read.
#CoronaBreak Book 4! Reading YA has been really quick and satisfying these past couple of days. I loved, loved, LOVED this book. I appreciated the two unconventional main characters (brothers: one that‘s big, tough, and “bad”, and the other with Down Syndrome). I think it‘s impressive for a YA novel to cover the complex issue of cultural identity/belonging so well. Now, back to adult books for a few days!
This is a great story of family and friendship, with a fantastic dynamic between Marcus, his brother Charlie, and their mother. The description of the travel and culture in Puerto Rico was wonderful.
Just a note, there‘s a fair amount of Spanish and a little bit of German on a few pages.

Wow...It hit me in the feels. Marcus Vega, a middle school kid, has a lot on his plate. He loves his brother and his mother, who works really hard to make ends meet. When things get a bit out of hand his mom decides to take her family to visit family in PR. She‘s trying to spend time with her boys and regroup, but Marcus‘ focus is on finding his father who left them 10 yrs ago.

I read lots of gn's and middle grade books this month but thanks to #24in48 I had a diverse and fantastic start to my year of reading for 2019.
Next up for my middle grade reads. I‘ve heard a good deal of great things about this one ... surprised there‘s only one other post about it 🤷♀️
Next up on my reading weekend! I loved Pablo Cartaya‘s first middle grade novel. I‘ve been looking forward to this one. And yes, that‘s how my cat sleeps! 😻 #howiereads
