Rayne and Delilah's Midnight Matinee is book about friendship foremost, but the characters (real names Josie and Delia) also have strong character growth individually.
As a book about friends, is it refreshing to see that the romance doesn't overtake that story. All around, a good book.

This was such a fun book and I laughed a lot! Seriously, there were times I snorted while reading on the metro 😂 but I also felt a pull at my heartstrings, and shed a few tears along the way. The characters were so well written, and I feel a closeness with Josie and Delia since I also have a show (podcast vs tv in the book) with a group of my girlfriends. This was my first Zentner book, and I‘m looking forward to reading his other books.
Receipe for Midnite Matinee
1. Take the heart of 'The Serpent King', add the banter of Gilmore Girls (less pop culture, more wierd snark), and make it about two high school girls who are public access horror show hosts trying to figure out their futures.
2. Add in dancing skeletons, road trips, MMA fighting, and someone who honestly thinks beagles grow into basset hounds.
3. Mix well until you're both laughing and crying.
4. Enjoy!

I really@liked this book.. the friendship was really cute and the whole making a show about horror movies thing was super cool.. I felt that the love interest was a little too insta lovey but overall I enjoyed this book 😌
Finally starting this beautiful purple book! It came in last month‘s Uppercase, and I hope it‘s a fun contemporary read! 📖 #16of2019 #currentread
A #SundayShelfie of my #NTBF19 #bookhaul! I had bought the tagged book previously, but brought it for signing purposes. The others I couldn't resist, and only the greatest of willpower and @Merethebookgal's close supervision prevented me from buying A Blade So Black as well. The one on the end is a graphic novel #ARC I won, so I'll keep you up to date!
Two best friends. One has a charming life, the other is front seat on the struggle bus. This book is about growing up and apart while they produce a late night public access show 👭📽🧟♂️
Book 19: I‘ve always loved Jeff‘s books but this one made him an auto-buy author for me. I LOVED everything about this book.
Book 1 on my #hamilthon readathon tour for the Alexander Hamilton prompt - a book with a name in the title. #readathons #rayneanddelilahsmidnitematinee #jeffzentner #bookworm #currentlyreading
Love this teen friendship story about two girls making plans to move forward after graduation. Lots of laughs and all heart.
I‘m still suffering with an impacted wisdom tooth (day 11!! 😭😭😭) so Gansey and I are going to cuddle up, ice down my face, and read the tagged book.
I had a super rough day. After dealing with excruciating dental pain for a week... I finally talked myself past my dentist-phobia and went in. Impacted wisdom tooth pushed against the nerve of the tooth next to it... and no oral surgeon can see me until NEXT THURSDAY. I‘m in some major pain. But my pretties came in today!
I love Jeff Zetner, and even though this was a bit of a departure (overall much more lighthearted) I still thoroughly enjoyed it! He has a fantastic voice and excels at dialogue. Plus I always love a book centered around female friendship-- especially since these two weirdos are both adorable and complicated. And I knew nothing about horror hosting, but it made for a really interesting element.
4 stars / ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is pretty great. Suspect I'm going to be reading Zentner's first two books very shortly.
