He started the game. She'll end it.FBI special agent Clarke Sinclair doesn't give up easily. She's spent years tracking serial killer Simon Cross, forced to follow his twisted clues and photographs across the country. Clarke knows that Cross selects only redheaded women and that he doesn't target another victim until Clarke discovers the previous one. He's never broken pattern...until now.A girl has already gone missing in upstate New York when a second one is kidnapped--a blonde. The killer's MO has changed, sending Clarke back to the drawing board. The closer she gets to the truth, the deeper she's drawn into an inescapable trap made just for Clarke. Whatever Cross's ultimate game is, it ends with her.

Quite suspenseful. Many chapters had my heart racing. Thought Labuskes did a nice job with character development, creating many opinions about each one. Also liked how there was a mysterious connection between the characters and the serial killer.

I liked this thriller fine, I enjoyed the writing and I definitely didn't see the twists coming, but my issue was with the main character, Clarke, who is written as an unlikeable character, but God she really grated on me. Her penchant to go full rogue cowboy FBI agent at every single opportunity when that was CLEARLY ALWAYS THE WORST IDEA aggravated me to no end.

Fun! A taut thriller with a great ending. Although I guessed the major twist about halfway through, I was invested and engaged the whole time. It‘s a slow burn, but a worthwhile read.

RadicalReader Holy cow beautiful cover bet the contents is even better 6y

Continuing my goal of randomly reading what is on my Kindle. Super dark and kind of violent thriller. #LitsyAtoZ #TheLetterI

Nothing like the killer taunting the FBI agent.. I did not see the relationship that they actually had coming though! Whew.

FBI special agent Clarke Sinclair has been trailing serial killer Simon Cross across the country, piecing together key elements of his pattern, as she closes in. But then Simon breaks pattern, and Clarke has to reconsider everything she thought she knew as she falls further and further into this life-threatening case...

While reading I found myself continually checking how much longer a chapter was and how many chapters I had left until the book was done, I just couldn‘t get into the story. I don‘t think it had to do with the writing and more to do with my state of mood and mind just wasn‘t feeling the story.

I figured out the “twist” pretty early on in the book so I only finished to see if I was right. The story is told in multiple POV‘s.

Wow. Talk about everything coming together at the end. This book will stay with me for a long time. A heavy voyage through 3pov. Simon Cross is what they have in common. Brianna Labuskes does not hold back: trauma, vulnerability, honesty, anger. I wish the big scene at the end was 5 pages longer bc it was so anticipated! But, I was glued to the pages!
4.5/5 Stars! *warning of graphic topics*

laurenlovesliterature I still need to read this. I got mine from Net Galley. 7y
somebooksaround @laurenlovesliterature that‘s awesome! I hope you enjoy! It‘s interesting and very dark, but the strength the characters have drove the book for me! I just started using net galley, hoping to find some new reads! :D 7y
KateFulfordAuthor @josteele - NetGalley is well worth investigating for new authors. Mine started there and I received some terrific reviews there 7y
somebooksaround @KateFulfordAuthor it seems like a great way to hear about new authors and spread the word of new books! 6y

This book is pretty intense.
The multiple points of view are done really well & keep the pace suspenseful. The pov are three incredibly strong women who have one thing in common: Simon Cross. A serial killer with a deeply rooted obsession. It‘s chilling, and I hope they get some serious justice at the end!

Just ordered my Amazon First Reads for April! I wasn't super interested in any of them, but this one looked enticing. I still haven't read my March one, tough, so hopefully I can get caught up in the coming weeks. 🤓 What did everyone else choose?

swynn I took Bandwidth, because when in doubt choose the SF/fantasy title. 7y
Jess7 I haven‘t picked one yet, bc I‘m not really interested in any of them. If I pick one, it will probably be this one. 7y
Bookdragon69 I always wait a couple of weeks to see what ratings and comments people give before actually choosing one. 7y
