Middle grade novel that shows us just how much we need people ❤️🙏
Two boys - a slow learner stuck in the body of a teenage giant and a tiny Einstein in leg braces - forge a unique friendship when they pair up to create one formidable human force. #MindfulPals #IndelibleMoments @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
This book was mentioned by many of my coworkers and we have multiple copies in my school, so I decided to read it. It was such a great novel of an unlikely friendship between two boys: one is large, quiet, and struggles in school; the other is tiny, needs braces or a wheelchair, and is a genius. Together, they are Freak the Mighty. It‘s all good until reality sets in and the reader realizes that it really is too good to be true. Must have tissues!
This book was so emotionally exhilarating!! The first and only book that has ever made me cry. From the family drama to the innocent friendships and heartbreaking losses, this book is one to read!
Even though short and for younger readers, this book was a great read! Loved the companionship of the two young boys and the adventures they took.
The unlikely duo of Freak the Mighty, also known as Max & Kevin, truly proves that you can't judge a book by its cover. Kevin has a disease that prevents his body from growing and Max is huge for his age and the son of a convicted murderer. I gaf my guts ripped out in bed last night and didn't sleep a wink after finishing this. Another spectacular #middlegrade read for the #JubilantJuly #Readathon! Total: 2 books

Still looking for a good book, you must read this. One of the best I‘ve seen in a long time. This ones a sad one (just for notes). A great storyline. Perfect for anyone to read. (Minor language)
G: RF. Award: ALA Best Books for Young Adults. Teaching Strategy: LC. This book is about the challenges that two best friend encounter in their life. It is one of those books that makes you laugh and cry while you are reading it. https://www.scholastic.com/content/dam/teachers/lesson-plans/migrated-featured-f... #UCFSU19 UDL: 1.3 EL: CD with the movie to take home as a visual support.
This is a wonderful story full of so much heart. 💚 I found it randomly while looking for an audiobook today and I'm so glad I did.
Max and Kevin are characters that touched my heart and made me fall in love with their friendship. Fair warning though, there are parts of this book that will break your heart too, but reading it is worth it.
Excellent example of why middle grade books are for adults too.
Why did it take me so long to discover the beauty that is this book?
“Remembering is a great invention of the mind...” What a timeless story of friendship told with a moat authentic voice. Still a beloved book even after 20+ years.
If I were creating a Top 5 of 2019, Freak would definitely be on it!
Captivating. Suspenseful. Silly and entertaining at times. Heartbreaking. All words I would use to describe this read.
Philbrick uses plain language in short, but no less engaging or descriptive, chapters to tell the story of Freak the Mighty.
I‘ve included a brief info graphic on person first language, that was the only point of contention I had with how this story was told.
I would‘ve punched this Loretta lady in the face and made her bleed BAD for a comment like this!!! 😡😡😡
My first “close the book and stare at the wall for a minute” moment in this book. 😭💥 💯
When you‘re reading and the text reminds you of your favorite song by your most favorite band. 💯
Because I want all my littens to have their awesomeness bestowed upon you Bionic Man Meets His Past, by Papadosio. 🎶
Got to the part of the book that tells you what is meant by the title! 👏🏻💯👍🏻
Books are like truth serum — if you don‘t read, you can‘t figure out what‘s real.
Monday started with a book swap and ended having a case of the Mondays and it turns out venturing out to get this book from someone on Facebook marketplace early in the day was the best call I could‘ve made to start the week.
Books seem to bring comfort and calm amidst even the most chaotic, unexpected days.
Excited to dig into it soon!!
Let me know if you read it and you loved it!!
Food for thought!

So good for middle graders who feel they don‘t fit in which is all of them.
Absolutely amazing. I almost cried when freak died and my friend did.
I read this book for the first time almost exactly six years ago. I remember loving it in a way I'd never really loved a book before. I've been having the urge to reread it and finally tackle the sequel. With any luck, I can find it in my massive book collection and give it another go soon.
Years ago, I saw an incredibly touching movie about two very different boys who formed a one-of-a-kind friendship that changed their lives. Now, I can finally say that I've read the book! Told in Max's straightforward perspective, this novel seems like the perfect book for reluctant readers. The story focuses on characters and themes that many readers can relate to. #audiobook #overdrive #youngadult #disabilities
Started reading this with my 6th graders again. This opening always surprises me with warm fuzzy feelings about friendship, especially the kind where you fall into mutual weirdness. 😄 #greatfirstline #booktober
Library used book sale! I got all this for under $10! 😄😄😄
My son is reading this in school, and since I've never read it before, I thought I should. I like reading what my kids are reading so we can talk about it.
