Yaassss! New glasses! After months of headaches, dizziness, and nausea and a week of aura migraines, I‘m hoping these bring me some relief! 🤓🤓🤓 Let‘s get reading again! 📚📚📚
Even though I haven‘t been able to read all week due to migraines, I‘m still proudly sporting my love for books... and dogs (of course).
As I became a creature of the empty tunnels, survival became easier and more difficult all at once... I could defeat almost anything that wandered into my chosen domain. It did not take me long, however, to discover one nemesis that I could neither defeat nor flee. It followed me wherever I went—indeed, the farther I ran, the more it closed in on me. My enemy was solitude, the interminable, incessant silence of hushed corridors.
I first stumbled across The Dark Elf Trilogy/Legend of Drizzt many, many years ago. Considering my difference in age now, when deciding to read it again, I was worried I‘d find that I‘ve well outgrown this series. Well, I‘m pleased to say I loved book one all the same... maybe even a little more this time around. My goodness, I even cried!💔 Thankfully, I have the next two books on hand, but I‘ll have to start ordering more soon.
“Nothing burns in your heart like the emptiness of losing something, someone, before you truly have learned of its value.”
Guenhwyvar!!! My favorite companion. The nostalgia is hitting me hard rereading this series ❤️

”Never does a star grace this land with a poet‘s light of twinkling mysteries, nor does the sun send to here its rays of warmth and life. This is the Underdark, the secret world beneath the bustling surface of the Forgotten Realms, whose sky is a ceiling of heartless stone and whose walls show the gray blandness of death in the torchlight of the foolish surface-dwellers that stumble here...”
Outlander took time to lure me in, but once it did, I was fully engaged. I was, however, surprised to stumble upon some heavily graphic material toward the latter end of the book (torture/sexual assault/rape). I often found myself stepping away just to unwind from these scenes. That said, it is an incredibly well-written and fascinating read. The fiction is so seamlessly interwoven with historical accuracy, I have to remind myself it‘s not real!
“I wish ye could ease me, Sassenach, I do wish it most fervently, for I‘ve little of ease in me now. But it‘s not like a poisoned thorn, where if ye found the right grip, ye could draw it out clean. It‘s not even like a brokenness anywhere. If ye could mend it bit by bit, like you did my hand, I‘d stand the pain gladly.”
A Torch Against the Night is equally as thrilling as An Ember in the Ashes. Without missing a beat, Sabaa Tahir had my heart racing from page one. I felt like I couldn‘t catch my breath until I finished the book.
Wow, just wow. This series is packing one powerful punch.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Next up on my TBR, after Outlander and A Torch Against the Night, is The Dark Elf Trilogy! I can‘t wait to read these books again after so many years... and eventually catch up on the next *28 books* in the whole Legend of Drizzt series😱. Will I ever make it to the end?
“Most people are nothing but glimmers in the great darkness of time. But you... are no swift-burning spark. You are a torch against the night - if you dare let yourself burn.” 🔥

Looking to clear my mind before diving back in to Outlander, I‘ve decided pick up book two from An Ember in the Ashes series. The new covers are absolutely gorgeous! What a difference. I‘m going to have to buy the newer version of An Ember in the Ashes to match. 😍
Me, putting the book down: Damn you, you eighteenth-century Scottish bastard! I LOVED you!
Its time to take a step back and digest a moment. I have been caught well off guard by some jarring behavior exhibited in these past couple of chapters, and my heart and head are wildly conflicted over it. I understand the context of the situation, but at the same time, my understanding doesn‘t relieve the sour taste in my mouth. ...Damn you, Jamie!
Jamie: *Breathes in a Scottish accent*
Me, a Sassenach Wench: 😍🤪 *Swoons*

Okay, seriously. I‘m in love with this entire book. The illustrations are AMAZING. #raidinggrandmaslibrary
“Whenever you feel like criticizing any one... just remember that all the people in this world haven‘t had the advantages that you‘ve had.” #raidinggrandmaslibrary
I could admire these lovely books all day 🤓 #raidinggrandmaslibrary
These illustrations... My goodness! 😍 #raidinggrandmaslibrary
Going through my grandma‘s library and finding some first-edition and special-edition classics 😍 Yes, I will be keeping these.
I‘m so torn with this one. I have become deeply invested in these characters and this world. However, this was my least favorite of the series. I continued to read mainly because of how much I loved the characters and not because I was always interested in what was happening. I wasn‘t fully hooked until the later chapters. For a 700 page book, that‘s a long time. I‘d say it would have been better if it was shortened by 150 pages or so.
Well, if this isn‘t me every night... 😂
For this week‘s Epic Reads reading challenge “read about something you want to do”, I‘ve decided Outlander would be perfect! I have always wanted to visit the gorgeous land of of Scots, and I would love to time travel it were real, so here‘s my pick! At the same time, if could choose something fictional I want to do, it would be to save Prythian and live happily ever after in Velaris, so ACOWAR is here too 😂❤️
I grumbled through the first 1/5th of this book, tired of high-lord romance, wanting Feyre to shine on her own. And as if Maas heard me, she gave me exactly that. Feyre‘s transformation was amazing! The new characters were a breath of fresh air. I couldn‘t choose one favorite. Then, Maas threw a bomb in the later chapters that made me realize how clueless I‘ve been this whole time, made me go back and re-read everything, and it‘s beautiful.
When you finally see Rhysand for the precious little moonbeam that he really is 😁. P.S. This will be me all day today 😂
I am in some mood, y‘all. I am SO done with “high lords” right now. Their mighty power, expansive estates, bountiful riches, all their male posturing... Ugh! Feyre, you are transformed! Get your magical-ass out there, find some kick-ass fae girls, and make yourself a girl gang. Girl 👏Gang👏 and invite Lucien because he‘s my favorite and not trying to get into anyone‘s pants! Rebuild the world with these ladies & kick some evil ass. - 22% comp.
Well, there‘s a good 1,323 pages left in this series (so far), so I‘m going to be a bit preoccupied for a while 🤣
I was so afraid I wouldn‘t like this series that I held off reading this book for so long! I‘m so glad I finally decided to dive in this week. What a pleasant surprise! It blew my expectations out of the water, and now I‘m hooked. I ran out to the store as fast as I could after finishing this one to grab books 2 and 3. I‘ll be preoccupied for a while!
I have no words only 🔥🔥🔥 ...I‘ve given up all hope for sleep tonight. This better not leave me heartbroken on Valentine‘s Day! - 48% completed
I absolutely LOVE that my girl, Feyre, is an artist, but what I love even more is that [he] got her enough art supplies to fill an entire room! Oh my god! Yes, I will serve a life sentence in Prythian as long as there‘s a fully stocked studio space at my disposal. Are you kidding? I would never want to leave. Here, take my soul while you‘re at it! Goodness, I am seriously emotional over this. I am SCREAMING! 😱 - 41% completed.
I loved Novik's writing style in this. It made me feel as though I stumbled upon an old-world fairy tale, but I have to admit the pacing was very slow at first. There were times when I felt plot progression was being stagnated by pages and pages of descriptive detail. Though, my patience paid off. After a hundred pages or so, the tale began to truly spin, and I fell deeply in love with these characters. Plus, the ending was just so, so lovely.
Just when I‘m loving Miryem‘s sass, Irina blows me away with her fortitude and witticism. Girl, yes! Slay, my queen! 🙌. Ooh, I‘m even more fascinated by her part of the story now, I think. (Art by Clarissa Cabral) - 44% completed.
I love this adorable cartoon-style depiction of Miryem and the Staryk King from Spinning Silver (made by Clarissa Cabral). Our little Miryem is tough as nails and quick as a whip against the Staryk King. You go girl! Look at those angry eyebrows 👏 - 33% completed
Favorite character dialogue from this (last) month‘s reads:
There‘s lots from Kings of the Wyld, but what stands out to me most is Ildiko and Brishen‘s banter in Radiance. Goodness, I absolutely LOVED Radiance 😍. It deserves infinitely more recognition.
Taking a peek at the beautiful world I‘ll be entering in a couple of days. I keep getting ahead of myself, though. I must finish my current reads! It‘s an endless struggle 😫
