Archenemies | Marissa Meyer
Part thriller, part superhero fantasy, here is the fiercely awaited sequel to the New York Times-bestselling Renegades by Marissa Meyer, author of the Lunar Chronicles. Are Nova and Adrian each others worst nightmare? In Renegades, Nova and Adrian (aka Insomnia and Sketch) fought the battle of their lives against the Anarchist known as the Detonator. It was a short-lived victory. The Anarchists still have a secret weapon, one that Nova believes will protect her. The Renegades also have a strategy for overpowering the Anarchists, but both Nova and Adrian understand that it could mean the end of Gatlon City and the world as they know it.

The action and emotion just keeps getting better with this series. It took me way too long to finish, but I‘m so glad I did. Marissa Meyer loves to give you a terrifying cliff hanger at the end of her books, and I‘m here for it. Can‘t wait to see how this series ends.

Definitely a good sequel to the first book that keepers a lot of what I enjoyed about the first book. Enjoyed how the book bright up the tension and bright up some really interesting questions Nova and Adrian to deal with. This was definitely Adrians book more then novas and i enjoyed that as he was always interesting to me and appreciated how he got some more time to shine in this one

There were so many awesome characters; fun, interesting and the thing I loved most about them: they were grey.

This book made me to think about who's really good and who's bad. Even though you're aiming to do good there should be some rules to follow.

This book was a bit slow and made me to think if there should be a duology instead of trilogy. I still enjoyed but things didn't go forward extremely fast.

Still loving this series! Its sooo good. It reminds me of the X-Men series, which I am in love with that series. Ace reminds me so much of Magnetio and The Captain reminds me of Professor X. This needs to made into a movie or t.v. series, something! It's way too good to not reach every person. Now whoever has the 3rd book on Libby, give it up! Lol 🤪

Not as good as the first, but you should stick with it because it gets better in the last book. I think this one just went a bit slow for me. Adrian is also getting on my nerves a little bit, but he comes around in the end. 6:/10

Grr... cliffhangers! I don't even like this book very much, what with the many things that don't make logical sense, the oh-so-YA relationship, and the half-dozen pending reveals that have a high likelihood of disappointing me. And yet, I'm up late finishing it and borrowing the last book in the series on Libby. Like I said: Grr!

Loving this series so much, and I don‘t think I‘ve ever shipped a YA couple as much as Nova and Adrian. Some of their courtship reminds me of when I met my wife in high school.

Read this one in audiobook, and I‘m becoming a big fan of the narrator Rebecca Soler. She does such a great job.

brilliantglow I read this one on audio too I agree Rebecca does a fantastic job. 5y

4.5/5💚s

You know it‘s a good book when you contemplate not eating to try to finish is or yell obscenities when you do finish it cause it ended on a huge cliffhanger & you have plans. 😜 In true YA fashion the sexual tension/attraction is thick, but it‘s further compounded by secret identities, opposing loyalties, superpowers, and different views of the world and right and wrong.

I can‘t wait to start book 3!

My 9yo: well, today is Monday.

Me: fair point!

(Book 2 in the renegades trilogy it is!)

I was pleased that “Archenemies” didn‘t disappoint compared to the first book of the series, and was just as action-packed. I thought that the ending of “Renegades” was a cliffhanger, but Meyer managed a cliffhanger that tripled the suspense at the end of this novel. Thank goodness that the final book of the trilogy, “Supernova”, is already released so I can start it right away.

QuoteQueen The cliffhanger at the end of this book was intense! So thankful I also have book 3 waiting to be read! 5y

Author: Marissa Meyer

Genre: Science & Adventure Fiction

Date started/finished: Novermber 12 - 25

Reason I chose the book: I read the first book “Renegades” and wanted to continue reading the series because of it‘s messages about human rights in a fantasy novel.

Summary: In the comments

__mz.3 Summary: It‘s about Nova, Adrian and their Renegades team, they‘re superheroes. They defend the part of the city that‘s filled with crime. Things get worse when there is a division between the rights of the people with unique abilities, superheroes and villains. Those villains want to destroy them. There is no line between good and evil, their friendships and powers are at risk and tested. 5y

Marissa Meyer's Archenemies, the second book in Marissa Meyer's Renegades trilogy, is right in my wheelhouse with its focus on retelling the typical superhero tale. (Spoilers ahead if you haven't read book 1!) Protagonists Nova and Adrian continue working at cross purposes while developing their deepening friendship. Each seeks vengeance for the death of a parent; each blames the other's alter ego, not understanding the conflict at the center. ⬇️

UnabridgedPod While I'll definitely read book 3 (Supernova), this book falls a little flat for me. It lacks the genuine drama of the recent amazon series The Boys, and it doesn't quite live up to the depth and nuance of Meyer's Lunar Chronicles series. Somehow, the development of the secondary characters here falls flat, which means Nova and Adrian carry a great deal of pressure to make the series dynamic and engaging. ⬇️ 5y
UnabridgedPod Overall, this is a solid read for me.⠀

Which authors' second series/novels live up to the promise of their first? What superhero sagas would you recommend?

Marissa Meyer is a fantastic writer, I am so glad I finally picked up this series (but finding this book was so difficult so close to Christmas 😩). Haven‘t had a chance to take a proper photo of the book itself, but this screenshot of it when I finished Renegades really shows my excitement to continue the series! #lunarchronicles #renegades #marissameyer

Finished just in time for Supernova‘s release on November 5th. As soon as I finished I immediately preordered my copy and now it‘s just a matter of waiting. There was no shortage of action, which is to be expected from a superhero book written by Marissa Meyer, and there were so many sweet moments that really made my heart swell. As per usual, Marissa Meyer hit this one right out of the park.

The romance in the book was a little forced but I guess that‘s just the price Nova has to pay. I did not like the ending. There was no surprise or plot twist. Well there was just not the complete end.

While I was in class I just finished Archenemies by Marissa Meyer and I must admit when I finished it I was like where's the rest of the book? The ending was defiantly a cliffhanger, I NEED THE NEXT BOOK RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!! Nothing isn't even explained yet I have to wait six months for SuperNova and I don't think I'm going to survive. Adrian doesn't even know that Nova is nightmare and when he finds out well Idk, Overall I highly enjoyed it!

This story did not have to be dragged out into a trilogy. I was down with two, three is a too far of a stretch. Nothing happened until the last 50 pages. Read fast, but honestly not sure I‘ll bother remembering to get to the last one when it comes out in September.
