Finale (Caraval, #3) | Stephanie Garber
post image
Panpan

The ending was okay but it really had none of the energy Caraval had. The romance was incredibly overbearing. Seriously. The first 60% of the book was back to back scenes that were almost indistinguishable from each other. Not enough differences between the characters. Arcs felt unfinished or were just dropped entirely. The main plot felt very halfhearted and scattered. Very few of the non-romance interesting parts made the final cut.

Some of the #essays were quite helpful and informative, like Domesticity 101 for example. But most of them read like the same person wrote them all, lacked ending or purpose, and were just generally hard to relate to. Some of the advice was like: don't recklessly spend all your money (duh) or don't become a wreck if you don't land your dream job at 22 (obviously). A few writers had been too lazy/entitled to pursue ANY job after #college. :/

Select parts were good but I think it lost the momentum that Renegades had.

Mystery and thrill were great! I loved the cast of characters and realistic dialogue. I fell in love with Keisha and Sylvia. There are flaws in pacing and execution, but overall I thought it was a pretty fun read.

What a gorgeous cover this is. I would read it all in one go if I didn't have to work :(

Too much digression, scientific listing, and math. Plot is either nonexistent or doesn't begin until halfway through the book. Disappointed :(

Very fun read about superheroes and villains. A classic universe mixes with new elements, science meets magic, and a cast of adorable and charming characters to die for.

4 out of 5 stars!

I heard @kaye wanted to see people's pets, so here's my little pup, Tanner! He was really cold so I wrapped him up (he didn't stay long.)

I honestly couldn't put this down until I finished it. I'm not usually into dark fairytale type books but Fine' s novel is so so so good. And it's about so much more than the stories that make it up.

Fine uses science, logic, magic, art, and ancient ritual to weave an incredibly complex story of colonialism, feminism, love, and the thin boundary between life and death.

I liked it fine, but the characters were all so mean to each other. I didn't like that at all. I mean, they were realistically written, but in the most pessimistic way possible. Literature can be fun if we give it a chance.

Ava and Stephanie manage to take the quaint
idea of a 19th century literary salon and ruin it by being angsty and selfish and more than a little idiotic. It's clear that Cohen is writing this way on purpose, but even so.

I could hardly put this book down. It's a nonfiction work by the author of "Yes Means Yes."

Unscrewed details the lives and perception of women particularly within the context of digital media and the internet. Would recommend of any impassioned feminist readers looking to learn more about the cause.

The ending even details steps the underdog can take to improve gender equality!
