The Tales of Beedle the Bard
The Tales of Beedle the Bard | J. K. Rowling, Emma Nicholson
"The Tales of Beedle the Bard, a Wizarding classic, first came to Muggle readers' attention in the book known as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Now, thanks to Hermione Granger's new translation from the ancient runes, we present this stunning edition with an introduction, notes, and illustrations by J.K. Rowling, and extensive commentary by Albus Dumbledore. Never before have Muggles been privy to these richly imaginative tales: "The Wizard and the Hopping Pot," "The Fountain of Fair Fortune," "The Warlock's Hairy Heart," "Babbitty Rabbitty and Her Cackling Stump," and of course, "The Tale of the Three Brothers."--Publisher description.

These were fun little fairy tales from the wizarding world. I liked the notes from Dumbledore at the end of each story. I could definitely see reading these to a child at bedtime. The narration of this audiobook was great, with sound effects and everything, and it was nice hearing some familiar voices from the movie franchise.

I don't condone JKR's anti-trans views, all proceeds from this book go to the charity Lumos

#6 Audio - Tales of Beedle the Bard

Finished last night and relistened to The Fountain of Fair Fortune this morning. One of the last books with the Wizarding Worlds I have left to read. Charming fables, I could do w/o Dumbledores explanations but at least it‘s Jude Law.

Will post updated bingo board tonight 🤞 I can finish Wings & Ruin today.

It‘s the last day of the year! And I was one book short of reaching my Goodreads Reading Challenge for the year. So, I shamelessly chose the shortest book on my bookshelf that I‘d never read before! 😂 Turns out it was my son‘s copy of this book. It was ok. Whilst I appreciate the HP phenomenon and the good it‘s done in getting more people to read books….it‘s not really my thing.

Short and sweet, light yet worthy of contemplation. A dear companion to the HP canon that expands that universe without complication. Lovely illustrations that feel like fairy tales.

I'm so stoked to begin the illustrated edition of this book! Have always enjoyed the tales and to see them in a new way will be so fun 😊 ... A lovely way to rest my brain as I am also journeying through The Silmarillion....

I'm coming to the end of the Harry Potter series. Not got another book planned till December. I need a short read for the gap lol. Debating the Tales of Beedle the Bard anyone read it? #harrypotter #hogwarts #magic #spells

BethM Short but good. 3y
bthegood I have not read that - my unsolicited suggestion is this book - it would fill the gap and it's enjoyable - 😊 3y
Scochrane26 You should definitely read Beedle, but it‘s a very short book. 3y
BookBosomed1 I‘m reading the tagged book. Might that interest you? 3y

Oh I really enjoyed this one. Cute fairy tales from a magical point of you and I really liked the analysis in after each story.

I listened to this as an audio book and loved all the different narrators.

A nice little collection of wizarding fables. The most interesting one is of course the last one The Tale of The Three Brothers, that is so relevant in the Harry Potter series.

The additional comments from Dumbledore are a bit foolish, for someone who is meant to be so wise, but I did enjoy the short stories.

An enjoyable read, although I think this is the last time I bother with the paratext. The stories are definitely the best part. I am curious though if Dumbledore giving all that info on the "myth" of the Deathly Hallows makes sense. I thought it was supposed to be a fringe thing most wizards hadn't heard of? #potteraday

GingerAntics I think it was something that was so well known as a children‘s story, no one thought it was real. Knowing the deathly hallows were real was a fringe thing. 4y

4⭐️ I really liked the stories, as it gives the Harry Potter world a defined mythology and adds to the world as a whole. I really didn‘t need the “notes” from Dumbledore at the end of the chapter #2021 #fiction #fantasy #harrypotter #readalong #potteraday #bookreview #bookstagram

Linsy I see your point! I like how they give it an academic fee, but it definitely doesn't need it. The stories stand on their own! 4y

"Magic causes as much trouble as it cures."

Funny yet insightful. Deep and dramatic. Beautifully crafted tales with very important and gravely serious critical expansions from none other than Professor Dumbledore

PS: Wizards with acute pureblood superiority complex should read with caution.

My SIL gave me this years ago and I thought I had read it, but apparently not! I thought the stories were very well done, so much it‘s hard to pick a favorite. I liked the Hairy Heart and the Fountain stories, and the three brothers. Last finish for March, wrap-up tomorrow.

I read this to my youngest. Which are Mini tales meant to tell a lesson. I remember one from the main series. I wonder if I just missed the others. Not a fan of the dark “Hairy Heart” very gruesome and cringed as I looked over to my little to see she was thankfully asleep (not that she would have remembered).

I was able to get this free on Audible last month. I loved it the first time I read it and it was so fun listening to the audiobook! My favorites were the commentary by Dumbledore, although I might be biased because Jude Law is 😍 and has a sexy voice. I‘d highly recommend any Potterhead fans to listen to the audiobook. And now I‘m thinking it‘s time to start my biannual reread of Harry Potter! 5⭐️

⭐️⭐️⭐️ - a very nice addition to the wizarding world of Potter. Listened through audible, it was nice to have Jude Law narrating Dumbledor‘s take on the classic stories referenced throughout the series. Worth having a read/listen, would be a higher rating if I was more of a Potter nerd ⚡️

This book was yet another re-read for me. But I think it‘s a great addition to the Harry Potter Universe because it gives more understanding to the references in the original Harry Potter books (even if those references are few and far between). Rating: 4 ⭐️

Fun read. I listened to the audiobook version of this, even though I had read this book when it was first published as a hard copy it was nice to hear the stars of the Harry Potter films transform these stories and bring them to life.
