Fire and Fury
Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House | Michael Wolff
With extraordinary access to the Trump White House, Michael Wolff tells the inside story of the most controversial presidency of our time The first nine months of Donald Trumps term were stormy, outrageousand absolutely mesmerizing. Now, thanks to his deep access to the West Wing, bestselling author Michael Wolff tells the riveting story of how Trump launched a tenure as volatile and fiery as the man himself. In this explosive book, Wolff provides a wealth of new details about the chaos in the Oval Office. Among the revelations: -- What President Trumps staff really thinks of him -- What inspired Trump to claim he was wire-tapped by President Obama -- Why FBI director James Comey was really fired -- Why chief strategist Steve Bannon and Trumps son-in-law Jared Kushner couldnt be in the same room -- Who is really directing the Trump administrations strategy in the wake of Bannons firing -- What the secret to communicating with Trump is -- What the Trump administration has in common with the movie The Producers Never before has a presidency so divided the American people. Brilliantly reported and astoundingly fresh, Michael Wolffs Fire and Fury shows us how and why Donald Trump has become the king of discord and disunion.

DNFing this slapdash rush job at 15%. The writing is unnecessarily showy, and the editors did nothing to clean it up (probably bc they were given no time to actually put some work into it).

skewermann I think "Dire and Puny" - the strikingly similar psychoanalysis of the Chump administration - is a much more enjoyable read ; ) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081S5JLTX 3y

In the messages, the UK's ambassador Sir Kim Darroch said the White House was "uniquely dysfunctional" and "divided" under Donald Trump.
"We don't really believe this administration is going to become substantially more normal; less dysfunctional; less unpredictable; less faction-riven; less diplomatically clumsy and inept," he said.

My husband and I listened to this on our road trip today. Honestly, I didn't like it. Wolff was really bad about starting a timeline, then going back to before the election and starting over with new people. I felt like he talked more about Steve Bannon than anything else. I did learn that Bannon is incredibly crass, which is disgusting to be honest.

Quick read. Gives a first insight into the Trump White House. Good place to start if you don't know where to start. Focused very narrowly on the interplay between White House figures and doesn't give much political insight.

Finished the audiobook while I was at work. It just goes into detail on things we already know about. It didn't offer anything too insightful. It did manage to depress me though.
I don't think it matters how much you like Trump or how bad of a job you think anyone else would have done the blatant incompetence of this man can't be ignored. The book points out just how much people in his own circle see it and do little to hide it.

I have tried and tried to read this book out of obligation. I purchased the kindle version out of spite when the cease-and-desist was issued following the book's release. But I hate it. I've been "reading" it for months and I'm only at 34%. Momma didn't raise no quitter, but Imma have to give up on this one. Too many books to read to waste time on this.

skewermann What you clearly need to read instead, @MelissaSue, is the "Dire and Puny" version of this! ?? Best wishes, Martha Skewermann, Chump administration biographer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081S5JLTX 3y

I tried reading this earlier in the year and the poor editing of the book really got to me and I was bored by the beginning of it so I bailed. I‘m glad I did the audio. It wasn‘t fantastic, nothing earth shattering.. but it did give me some insight into all the different players and why Trump is the way he is. And parts of it were actually really funny, because it really is all that ridiculous!

I know everyone else is already over this book, but I finally got around to finishing it. Overall I liked it, although I wish they had taken some more time to edit it, instead of rushing it into print. It covers a lot of things we already know, but it‘s fascinating to get a look at the events we all remember from a perspective inside the White House.

I found this audiobook extremely boring. I just don‘t find anything about Trump amusing. 🤢

Kaye Amusing is the last word I‘d use for him. Maybe attractive would be low on the list. Intelligent would be at the bottom. I just stay pretty blank about him at this point. Refuse to watch the news . Nothing he says is of interest to me. I just count down the time til we can get him outta there. 6y
Cortg @Kaye They did talk about how dumb he and his family are, how he doesn‘t read ANYTHING, and why his hair is the color it is...he‘s too impatient to leave the dye on long enough. So awful in every way. 6y

Because Wolff's sources had to be among Trump's intimate and extended entourages in great part, people who I don't trust with the truth, it's hard to think of this as fact-based journalism. It's more like a long, (plausible and believable) op-ed style theory built around some confirmed truths. Disturbing, less pompous than I expected, and worthwhile in the end. My upside-down pic is in reverence to the current state of the White House. #audiobooks

I think there are only grains of truth and flagrant opinion in this book. I appreciated the context it gave to the nonsensical, early speeches. The context didn‘t make me feel any better, but it was to know what instigated the insanity. It was also nice to have a blunt introduction to all the personalities in The White House and some insight into the relationships and motivations.

I said I wasn‘t going to read this after all the bad reviews. I saw it at the library and borrowed it anyway! I know the author has been heavily criticised as a lot of it is unconfirmed hearsay written as fact. I am a couple of chapters in and I‘m finding it quite amusing. It does read like satirical fiction but then I keep reminding myself that it is based on fact. And that is a scary thing!

This should have been called "Steve Bannon : A Love Story" as it is crystal clear that Wolff is a Bannon fan boy. Felt like he wanted to write a book about Bannon but didn't get permission so this is what he did instead. Also, where the heck was his editor? Bad grammar, syntax and sentance structure. Was he paid by the comma?

wanderlustforwords Bad. I‘ve been curious about the book, but afraid I would grow to hate him even more. I‘ve been watching a BBC documentary on him that starts at the beginning of his business career. In his first interview he‘s asked what he‘d do if he couldn‘t be a business man and he said, “become President.” He‘s had his eye in the Whitehouse for a long time. And, hasn‘t changed except that his crazy insecurity and narcissism has gotten worse. 😭 7y
wanderlustforwords What do you think of it? I hope I didn‘t offend with my opinions! 7y
kricheal @wanderlustforwords I've never liked him and that was before his political career. I'm halfway done with it now and I feel like there are only a few tidbits that were new info. I can only handle snippets of this book at a time. I would NEVER spend my money pro or con on a Trump book but I would still read them because information is power. 7y

I‘ve read several DJT related books that were informative and important for understanding the danger his presidency represents. Not so this book. It‘s a tale of Machiavellian plotting amongst various WH factions. It reads like a gossipy People Mag article. The voyeur in me kept turning the pages, but in the end it was a lot of sound and fury. I already knew there was an I‘ll-tempered toddler in the Oval Office.

I was somehow able to enjoy this as a kind of absurd soap opera, a dark fantasy. Some of it was indeed quite fascinating. And I will give Wolff real credit on this point: Many of his “burns” on these malevolent buffoons are entertainingly, even eloquently, phrased. Worth a read for those predisposed.
