DNFing this slapdash rush job at 15%. The writing is unnecessarily showy, and the editors did nothing to clean it up (probably bc they were given no time to actually put some work into it).

In the messages, the UK's ambassador Sir Kim Darroch said the White House was "uniquely dysfunctional" and "divided" under Donald Trump.
"We don't really believe this administration is going to become substantially more normal; less dysfunctional; less unpredictable; less faction-riven; less diplomatically clumsy and inept," he said.

Ouch! ???
My husband and I listened to this on our road trip today. Honestly, I didn't like it. Wolff was really bad about starting a timeline, then going back to before the election and starting over with new people. I felt like he talked more about Steve Bannon than anything else. I did learn that Bannon is incredibly crass, which is disgusting to be honest.
Quick read. Gives a first insight into the Trump White House. Good place to start if you don't know where to start. Focused very narrowly on the interplay between White House figures and doesn't give much political insight.
The whole reason for running for President was NOT what you think and Just so you will know, The President is not actually running the country. Yes, he is a puppet, and no its not who you think.
It feels like an important book that everyone needs to read. It's shocking and also not shocking but in all honesty, it's boring as hell.
Finished the audiobook while I was at work. It just goes into detail on things we already know about. It didn't offer anything too insightful. It did manage to depress me though.
I don't think it matters how much you like Trump or how bad of a job you think anyone else would have done the blatant incompetence of this man can't be ignored. The book points out just how much people in his own circle see it and do little to hide it.
I wasn‘t going to buy this book but the library store had a new hardback copy for $2.00, so we‘ll see if it‘s worth the change in my purse that I scraped together for it. As a kindness to everyone I decided to block the hideous cover photo with the cute pup sticker.
I‘ve given myself until I turn 41 to complete the #192019 challenge. One year and two weeks to go!
Here are the books I read this year that apply to the challenge.
Yup. Had to read out of morbid curiosity
Fascinating and entertaining.
I have tried and tried to read this book out of obligation. I purchased the kindle version out of spite when the cease-and-desist was issued following the book's release. But I hate it. I've been "reading" it for months and I'm only at 34%. Momma didn't raise no quitter, but Imma have to give up on this one. Too many books to read to waste time on this.
I tried reading this earlier in the year and the poor editing of the book really got to me and I was bored by the beginning of it so I bailed. I‘m glad I did the audio. It wasn‘t fantastic, nothing earth shattering.. but it did give me some insight into all the different players and why Trump is the way he is. And parts of it were actually really funny, because it really is all that ridiculous!
I couldn‘t keep reading as I found myself getting increasingly angry, maybe one to go back to at a later date!
I know everyone else is already over this book, but I finally got around to finishing it. Overall I liked it, although I wish they had taken some more time to edit it, instead of rushing it into print. It covers a lot of things we already know, but it‘s fascinating to get a look at the events we all remember from a perspective inside the White House.
Fascinating to glimpse the workings of the Trump administration. I‘m not sure how much of this book is true, but it could quite easily be all of it, knowing what we do about the orange-faced one.
Sorry, but I‘m bailing on this one. When I read I like to actually enjoy it. When I get upset over what I read I like it to be fiction, not real life. This book is a bummer and I‘m not in the mood for it. Maybe when he‘s not our president anymore.
You might have heard what will happen in Helsinki, Finland soon. A microbrewery got inspired and brewed a beer in honor of the meeting. “Making lager great again!”
I found this audiobook extremely boring. I just don‘t find anything about Trump amusing. 🤢
Because Wolff's sources had to be among Trump's intimate and extended entourages in great part, people who I don't trust with the truth, it's hard to think of this as fact-based journalism. It's more like a long, (plausible and believable) op-ed style theory built around some confirmed truths. Disturbing, less pompous than I expected, and worthwhile in the end. My upside-down pic is in reverence to the current state of the White House. #audiobooks
#GetMovin Day 31: When current events become #Thriller, you know that you are #Adulting and it isn‘t pretty.
You'll feel that you're peeking through a curtain, all your suspicions confirmed about the chaos, hostilities, and overall incompetence of Trump's White House...which will either frighten you further or give you hope for the future.
Saw this today. Haha Fir and Fury: angry trees in the White House
This was an entertaining but scary read. It‘s like reading about a bad dream....
I think there are only grains of truth and flagrant opinion in this book. I appreciated the context it gave to the nonsensical, early speeches. The context didn‘t make me feel any better, but it was to know what instigated the insanity. It was also nice to have a blunt introduction to all the personalities in The White House and some insight into the relationships and motivations.
I said I wasn‘t going to read this after all the bad reviews. I saw it at the library and borrowed it anyway! I know the author has been heavily criticised as a lot of it is unconfirmed hearsay written as fact. I am a couple of chapters in and I‘m finding it quite amusing. It does read like satirical fiction but then I keep reminding myself that it is based on fact. And that is a scary thing!
This should have been called "Steve Bannon : A Love Story" as it is crystal clear that Wolff is a Bannon fan boy. Felt like he wanted to write a book about Bannon but didn't get permission so this is what he did instead. Also, where the heck was his editor? Bad grammar, syntax and sentance structure. Was he paid by the comma?
Pretty sure Michael Wolff is a not so closeted Bannon fan boy. Over halfway through and he mentions Bannon on just about every page.
So, I decided early on to read this as "historical fiction" ???, and I must say it was quite enjoyable! ?
There wasn't really too many surprises here, it was hard to listen to the petty chaotic rivalries of Trump's staff. The book is almost equally as much about Steve Bannon as it is about Trump. I would recommend it, but borrow this don't buy it.
As a whole this book doesn't bring anything concrete or new to the table. It is interesting, but it reads like gossip and makes me iffy on the validity of it. If you are curious about it definitely find a library copy, because as is it's simply not worth the money spent on it.
Finishing this up today. It's not great and offers nothing new, not to mention it doesn't really have a ton of sources to check out. But it is somewhat interesting if true.
My #overdrive hold finally came in...I've been waiting since February. This should be interesting.
😔😔😔
The worst part about this book is that nothing in here surprised me and I couldn‘t even feel the slightest outrage. I‘m angrier about that than I am about anything in this book!!!
Good Morning, my fellow Littens and happy Friday eve!!! My hold for this finally came in from the library (because I am not paying for something with this face on it), so I am starting the day off listening to this hot mess.
Meh. Nothing new is revealed in this book. Very over hyped. Glad I borrowed this from the library and didn't pay for it.
Well - I am a bit “meh” about this book. It didn‘t tell me anything that hadn‘t already been reported in the media and I didn‘t think it was well written. I read it due to the hype. I am not recommending nor recommending this.
I‘ve read several DJT related books that were informative and important for understanding the danger his presidency represents. Not so this book. It‘s a tale of Machiavellian plotting amongst various WH factions. It reads like a gossipy People Mag article. The voyeur in me kept turning the pages, but in the end it was a lot of sound and fury. I already knew there was an I‘ll-tempered toddler in the Oval Office.
I was somehow able to enjoy this as a kind of absurd soap opera, a dark fantasy. Some of it was indeed quite fascinating. And I will give Wolff real credit on this point: Many of his “burns” on these malevolent buffoons are entertainingly, even eloquently, phrased. Worth a read for those predisposed.
