This book took me back to junior high. Of course, it‘s a mature point of view. Beautifully written. I felt that it maintained the spirit and integrity of the Little House story perfectly in it‘s simplicity. A must read for Little House lovers.
I‘m in! My goal is to finish my “library shelf.” Some of the books I‘ve had for, uh, more than a year. I‘ll post a picture shortly!
Some reading and a late lunch. I forgot who recommend this book to me on here - but thank you. I am enjoying seeing the familiar story from an adult‘s perspective.
I finished this audiobook today. I enjoyed listening to the audiobook. It is told in Caroline point of view instead of Laura's. I rated this book a 3 out of 5 stars. This is the fourth book completed in the #RushAThon readathon hosted by @Andrew65
Re- reading the Little House series made me want to re-read this book which is the Ingalls family‘s time in Kansas told from Ma‘s perspective. I thought it was really well done.
Overall I did enjoy revisiting the Ingalls family as they set off for Kansas and seeing from Ma's perspective - her fears and inner struggles as the Ingalls family forged ahead building a life together. But something felt lacking in the writing. I can't quite pinpoint it, and it could just be me. Parts felt well-written while others felt a bit forced and just didn't quite fit.
"How much of what they loved in her was real, and how much was fashioned from what they envisioned her to be?"
I absolutely loved the Little House books as a kid. So it's with a mix of both excitement and trepidation that I start this one. There is a cool map at the beginning.
I had to go to a little medical appointment today, so am home having a little relaxing lay down and reading Caroline. I read the Little House on the Prairie series about 12,000 times as a child, so this is a really fun read.
As a childhood fan of all things Little House, I have complicated feelings as I read this. Initially, I loved the idea of seeing things from the perspective of Ma. It's a little like removing the rose-colored glasses of childhood and realizing that your parents aren't perfect. I'm not so sure I'm enjoying the selfish, complaining (read: human) inner dialogue of this Caroline. On the other hand, it's very real and well written. Also: #bookmap 👍👍
Loved this Little House on the Prairie retelling from Ma‘s perspective.
I read the Little House on the Prairie books when I was younger and loved them. But as an adult and mother, I often wondered about Caroline. What it would have been like for her. This book was amazing. I was drawn right in and really enjoyed the story from her perspective. I recommend this book to anyone who loved the original books.👍
This started out great but then it was too much in her head. Lots of anxiety! But captured the feeling of Little House so it‘s a pick.
Loving this book already. And THIS!! As I prepare for a trip, this is so me. Although I am also dreading the 30 hour flight. But how beautifully she captured this. Of course the “leaving” I‘m dreading is my cat!!!! 😿

A great day to finish a book...
I‘m ready for summer! I liked Caroline it was different from the original as it was generally historically accurate.
This was such a good book! And I really liked the reader for the audio version. It follows Caroline from when they leave Wisconsin and settle in Kansas. Told from Caroline‘s view it gives a different look into the story.
I picked this for #booked19, reminds me of my happy place. One of my fondest memories is spending summers in Oklahoma and sitting on my grandma's porch reading. My grandma is where I got my love of reading and she introduced me to Laura Ingalls Wilder. I was excited to read the story from Ma's POV
Momming in 2019 is hard, and I can't even imagine being a mom in 1860. You have to admire the tenacity and bravery of the early settlers ⬇⬇⬇

I'm a sucker for all things "Little House" and this one did not disappoint. I never would have survived pioneering West as so many did, I would have died time after time just as was my fate playing the Oregon Trail CD-Rom in grade school. So much trust in the unknown is unfathomable to me and while I know many of the Ingalls tales are historical fiction, I am still in awe. I truly enjoyed this book from Caroline's perspective.
Today is Caroline Ingalls‘s birthday! I‘ll be celebrating with red yarn and an antique crochet hook. 🧶 And I might read the scene where Ma dances at the maple sugar dance in the Big Woods. What‘s your favorite Ma moment?

Books about other characters in beloved books can be hit or miss; this was certainly a hit for me! It was character driven with very descriptive inner voice and emotions, and I just kept wanting to know what would happen next! I love this time period, and grew up loving the Little House series, but this was a more mature and nuanced take on how one deep-feeling woman of this time might have felt about the Pioneer life.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
Sarah Miller tells the familiar story of the Ingalls family‘s trek from Wisconsin to Kansas by covered wagon and the beginnings of their new life in Indian Territory through the eyes of Caroline, the soft-spoken wife and mother. True to the Little House books and tv series, the fictionalized account hits all the right notes. Fans of the childrens‘ book series will appreciate a return to the prairie, told from a new, but familiar viewpoint.
More exciting mail today! I also received my #feedareader package today! Thank you so much, @Pamwurtzler , for the books, bookmark, recipes, seasoning and Chocolate peanut butter. I'm really excited about both books, and can't wait to try the recipes. The Sausage, Bean and Broccoli Rabe soup sounds amazing! But I have to tell you..that jar really is what chocolate dreams are made of. All I needed was a spoon!

I‘ve had a cold lingering around the last 10 days or so, I‘m not much of a reader when I‘m sick and I haven‘t made much progress yet this month. But I‘ve got a couple of short road trip planned the next two weekends, hopefully I‘ll get a few books read then!

I think I maybe only read one Little House book as a child. I‘m not sure why. They seem so fascinating to me now, so I was eager to pick this up. A historical novel based on Laura Ingalls Wilder‘s Mother, Caroline, aka “Ma”, this should have been a home run. Indeed, I like that Miller thought to detail the every day aspects of their life. But my god, the writing. 🤭😑 intentional, but annoying. So over written. Sentimental and maudlin. 🤮 #pop18
This is literally one of those books that makes you appreciate all the comforts of modern living. I feel a bit guilt reading about Caroline‘s journey across the northwest as I enjoy a hot bath. #bathandbook
I had a busy day yesterday but I had a few minutes to run to the bookstore. They had a promotion where if you bought a card you had a chance to get 5-100% off. I got 100!!!! I got four books and the card for FREE!!! 😄💃🏻📚
My husband and I are doing some spring cleaning today and I think I‘m going to purge my TBR on my nightstand and get rid of it. I feel like I always am overwhelmed and I never have time to read from my own shelves because I‘ve always got BOTM and library books and whatever else ends up next to my bed. It‘s kind of a scary feeling (I‘ll be returning a bunch of unread library books 😬) but it‘s time. #cleaningoutmycloset #aprella
I have a long abiding love for Laura Ingalls Wilder and her series. My love continues with Caroline.
The descriptive writing transported me to another time and place. The author pulled me gently into the lives of the Ingalls and I remained transfixed until the very end.
The hardships they endured, the gratefulness for the small things and their unending love for one another gives a whole new level of respect to the Ingalls.
I had an Amazon credit begging to be spent and this went on sale! I have been looking forward to reading this book since I heard it was coming out.
Reading while I wait for @aschermetz to pick me up. TO PICK ME UP! We're meeting for the first time since "meeting" online many, many years ago!!!
I really liked that this book helped me revisit the Little House series, a childhood favourite. I loved that it was told from the mother's perspective. That said, there was a one pretty big difference from when I read the books as a child: this time around I felt so much sympathy for the Osage Indians and the way they are pushed off their land to make way for the settlers. This tended to colour my enjoyment of the book at times.
“White flour, white sugar, lard, and milk. Saleratus, and a pinch of nutmeg. The white flour was so silky and cool, Caroline mixed the dough bare-handed until it was warm and smooth as her own skin. She rolled it into a thick circle as large as the pie plate, then neatened the rough edges with the heels of her hands. With a knife she cut out two hearts and dredged them with white sugar until they glittered faintly in the lamplight.”
Dinner of champions. 😂 #riotgrams #bookandbeverage

Very much enjoying this read so far. I always felt Caroline was a bit of a mystery in the Little House books. Interesting to read the authors take on her character. I can‘t even begin to imagine what it would have been like to make such a journey.
