I read this one at the recommendation of my 15 year old niece. I don‘t read a lot of YA but I really liked this one.

Mollyanna I‘m not a big YA reader either, but thought this one was a great read too. 2w

Tiffany D. Jackson sure does know how to tell a story. I have figured out where Monday is yet but my gut has all the feels that something bad has happened. Six weeks of rest and recovery has me scrolling the book websites looking for more books as if I don‘t have bookcases full of books.

Everything Tiffany D. Jackson writes is like a punch in the gut. I had to force myself to put this book down every night and go to bed, because I wanted to stay up to finish the whole thing in one sitting. I needed to know how it was going to end.

😭😭 completely wrecked

Claudia and Monday are inseparable, when school starts Monday isn‘t there, but no one believes Claudia when she tries to tell them Monday is missing.

Really nailed the middle school “mean girl” culture. &the vantage point of a middle school girl that no adults take seriously, of thinking you know everything then realizing all that‘s not shared. The tragedy of what can happen behind closed doors.

Literally heartbreaking.

BookDragonNotWorm This one made me ugly cry. 😭 3y

Claudia & Monday have always been best friends. When the new school year starts and Monday isn‘t there, Claudia worries something happened to her. As she tries to convince the adults in her life that Monday is missing, no one takes her seriously.

I couldn‘t put this one down. It goes back and forth between two different timelines and was a page turner. I love when I have no idea how a story will end, it keeps me invested.

This book is devastating to read. I really liked the premise but wasn‘t a big fan of the jumping of timelines and how some of these friends trauma seems to just be glossed over. Still definitely worth a read.
Claudia is the only person who notices that her best friend Monday is missing and no one even attempts to look for her…until her body is found a year later.

I feel like an emotional train wreck after this one! Wow. I wanted to read this after hearing about some parent drama in a nearby county with lots to say against this book and trying to get it removed. Plus, it‘s a Coretta Scott King winner and tackles some real heavy topics. The story is about Claudia, who leaves to spend the summer at her grandmothers only to come back to find her best friend has disappeared and no one seems concerned by this.

Cortg If parents are upset that their 9th grader could choose to read this in honors English, they‘re in for a rude awakening in the upcoming years, thinking back on some of the books my kids read in high school over the past 5 years 😂 3y
Zoe-h When I read this one, I couldn‘t keep track of the time changes, and that twist at the end didn‘t help. It was also much more grim than I was expecting (not that that‘s a bad thing). 3y
Cortg @Zoe-h Yeah, the “before, before” the “before” and the “after” chapters plus each consecutive month was tricky, but it kept me wondering what the big event was that caused the before and the after. The twist was great and opened the whole mental health aspect of the story. So many layers and topics! I knew going in it would be grim from the nearby school drama. (edited) 3y
megnews When it comes to censorship I always feel like if there are kids who have lived through something, other kids can read about it. Sometimes with guidance. Parents would do better for their children if they read along too and discussed instead of trying to ban. I loved this book and I love Tiffany Jackson. (edited) 3y
Cortg @megnews Absolutely! And the book was a choice read, choose one of these 5 books to read and discuss. By high school, let the kids read. It creates empathy and understanding. (edited) 3y

For the most part I really enjoyed this book, but I think it fell a little short of all the hype I've heard about it. I think the overall story does a fantastic job in highlighting the ways in which Black lives, especially Black women's and children's lives, are overlooked and not seen as a priority. The fact that Claudia had dyslexia added a lot to the story. The twist at the end was also pretty unexpected and original.

I imagined that an audiobook would never be able to make me cry. WRONG. This was an intense rollercoaster ride of a book about Claudia who returns from a summer away to find her best friend Monday missing. Despite her pleas, no one seems to be able to help her find Monday. A book filled with secrets revealed and a slowly unfolding tragedy. The unique timeline was a little tough to stay with on audio, but other than that, this one‘s a stunner.

I don‘t know what just happened. The book jumped between four different timelines, and I personally have a really bad habit of not reading the chapter titles, so this one was hard for me. That twist at the end made no sense either. 2⭐️

Claudia‘s best friend Monday is missing, but none of the adults in her life seem to take her concerns seriously.

This was a great YA thriller! The main character is learning to manage her dyslexia along with typical teenage struggles, and of course the loneliness of her friend being gone. I really enjoyed the author‘s description of the way Claudia was moved by and escaped into dance.

Something is just not right with this mother. If her son was doing all these things, couldn‘t she have found a a better way to handle the situation, instead of choking him to death? I agree putting hands on girls and his sisters was wrong but two wrongs don‘t make a right.

Holy crap this book was so good, but so heartbreaking. Claudia just came back from a summer with her grandmother. She is so excited to see her best friend Monday. When she arrives for the 1st day of school, she knows something is wrong when Monday doesn‘t show up to school. What happened to Monday? Claudia needs to know what happened to her friend. I didn‘t see the twist coming towards the end of the book. I couldn‘t put this book down!
