Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, Book 1: The Sword of Summer | Rick Riordan
Magnus Chase has always been a troubled kid. Since his mothers mysterious death, hes lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, keeping one step ahead of the police and the truant officers. One day, hes tracked down by an uncle he barely knowsa man his mother claimed was dangerous. Uncle Randolph tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god. The Viking myths are true. The gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Trolls, giants and worse monsters are stirring for doomsday. To prevent Ragnarok, Magnus must search the Nine Worlds for a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years. When an attack by fire giants forces him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents, Magnus makes a fatal decision. Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die . . .

This book is set in Boston, so when it referenced places that I have been to, I thought it was really neat and made the book more enjoyable.

Thank goodness for audio books. I'm struggling to sit still enough to read lately (as much as I want to). Audio books let me immerse myself into some of my favourite worlds while fulfilling the need to be constantly active.

3✨The last book of this series had me laughing like all Riordan books. It was really just a meh for me. Without getting into too much detail. Magnus must help his friends take down the villain of the story. It has an open ended conclusion to tie in the next series. Read for #roaringwolf History (There is a deaf character) it is also my #DoubleBookSpin for April @Littlewolf1 @TheAromaofBooks 🎧

4✨ I love the humor throughout these books. This series starts with Magnus telling of the events leading up to his death. Which, is really when the story starts. In true Riordan fashion there is lots of adventure, challenges, and a quest that our hero‘s journey through to save life as we know it. This fits under “Cough,Cough,Wheeze” for #roaringwolf @Littlewolf1 (Just for funzies)

As I said previously, I had a hard time finishing books in 2020. I decided to read this YA book since it was low-commitment in my mind. I did read it through, and enjoyed it.

Read in 2020.

So I've been in an anti-reading mood for quite some time. However I picked this up yesterday and it is actually holding my interest. Which is good. I've missed reading. Just haven't been able to bring myself to do it for a few months. Hopefully this will spark that love again. Here's to trying.

I really enjoyed this book when I read it a while back. It's very fun. I just recently had the pleasure of reading Riordan's acceptance speech for the Stonewall award this book won. Inspiring. Made me cry a little, not gonna lie.

https://rickriordan.com/2017/06/the-stonewall-award/

BookmarkTavern His Norse trilogy is, I think, both my favorite series of his and his best. The third book is my absolute favorite. ❤️❤️ 5y
Kenyazero @ozma.of.oz I think I liked his second Percy Jackson series better, but the Norse books are a very close second. The characters are excellent, and it takes on some excellent topics. 5y

This book... it's like Norse mythology on crack. It is crazy, full of modernized legends and twisted beliefs and messed up gods. The hero of the story is being pushed from one weird situation into another without any particular connection or sense to complete tasks that will help him save the world. The cover is stunning though!

Gotta admit. I'm pretty sketchy with my Norse mythology.
But I loved this book, certainly a fresh take on being a demigod.
A good addition to Rick Riordan's mythologically based stories :)

Here I am once again reading Rick Riordans book completely out of order. I thought “hey this about Norse gods it won‘t connect to PJO”.. it connects lol. But not by a lot, at least for the first book. I actually enjoyed this so much, Norse God‘s are my fav and I enjoyed these versions of them. Also I was glad the parentage of Magnus wasn‘t predictable, the banter the characters had was actually funny. Only down side was Sam she annoyed me so bad.

Sweetkokoro Also I forgot to mention i am now 4 hours into #24b4monday let‘s see how far I get this time. Although my stopwatch on my phone reset, so I lost that initial 4 hour marker :( 6y

Generally pretty good. I really loved the diversity of the characters. I also really enjoyed how the characters were able to turn a weakness into an advantage and how the mythology was woven throughout the story. However, I did find Magnus‘s tone to get a little irritating at times.

#NOSPOILERS I got pretty far into the book, but didn't finish it. I liked the humor and all, but to me, something felt missing and/or confusing. Yes, yes, the main point I stopped was that I had trouble understanding and interpreting the plot and what was going on. Also, part of it was, my therapist spoiled the second book for me. If I could read this head on, no break, no nothin', I would. I feel guilt for leaving a book I wanted to read. 7.5/10

I was wary picking up another #riordan book because I tried to read the #percyjackson series, and it was just a little bit too kiddish for me. I was pleasantly surprised. The #diversity in this book is absolutely impressive. From disabilities to religion, almost every character has something that makes them unique, and towards the end of the book, it‘s shown how those traits that in society might have been treated as a weakness becomes a strength.
